Idea: Trade for Childress

In terms of the SF options that are available this offseason, I personally think Josh Childress would be, by far the best option for the Nets. He's young, a very good defender (taking pressure off of VC), versatile (played PG, SG and SF in ATL) and his athleticism would make him a great fit in an up-tempo offense.

ATL Trades: Josh Childress (s&t starting at 6 mil), Speedy Claxton, Zaza Pachulia and Soloman Jones (waived)
(total outgoing: $13,007,035)
ATL Gets: Nenad Krstic (s&t starting at $6 mil), Stromile Swift and Keith Van Horn
(total incoming $15,992,112)

NJ Trades: Nenad Krstic (s&t starting at $6 mil), Stromile Swift and Keith Van Horn
(total outgoing: $12,992,112)
NJ Gets: Josh Childress (s&t starting at $6 mil), Speedy Claxton, Zaza Pachulia and Soloman Jones (waived)
(total incoming: $16,007,035)

Why for Atlanta: They get an offensive big man and a true center in Krstic, while turning Speedy Claxton's dreadful contract into Van Horn's non-guaranteed contract.

Why for New Jersey: I think Childress is the perfect fit for the team's hole at SF. They consolidate the big man situation by dealing away Krstic, who looks to be the one most likely to go. Claxton's contract sucks, but it ends after 09/10 so it wouldn't hurt any chances for a free agent in 2010. If he's healthy (big IF), he'd provide a nice veteran PG for if/when they trade Marcus Williams. Childress would eat away at that 2010/11 cap room, but I don't think that's an issue since Carter will eventually be dealt away.

Great Plan!!!!!!!!

A excellent idea, Im not sure that they are going to trade Carter. They have to try win games throughout this period they cant bellyup.

You lost me.

I doubt they trade Zaza too.

How about Josh childress for Krstic and M. Will or whatever they want.

I would love to go after Josh Smith but I doubt they let him go.

Another thing I dont know if I can stand the stupid Childress afro.

GET A HAIR CUT, MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zaza seems to have fallen out of favor in Atlanta (minutes were cut in half this year). Honestly the Zaza/Swift swap was in there just to make the numbers work under the cap, which is tricky since Chilldress and Krstic would both be BYC.

I said it in the other thread: I will not trade big-for-small, AND accept bad salary. Remove Claxton and KVH, or at least sub Keith for Hassell.

I love Childress, but there are so many semi-comparable free agent SFs on the market right now, it'd be stupid to absorb Claxton's salary.

Who are these semi-comparable free agent SFs? I know a lot of people like Pietrus, but IMO he's not anywhere near the level of Chilldress. Denver's matching all offers on JR Smith and Maggette isn't coming here.

I understand the "big for small" argument, but let's be honest, Childress is clearly the superior player. You've said it yourself, at least one if not more of these bigs have to go. There's only so much leverage NJ has as a result, especially with Krstic and his health/contract.

As to swapping KVH with Hassell or removing Claxton, why would Atlanta even remotely consider this deal if that happened? They're already dealing the best player in the deal, a guy who is their top backup at 3-4 positions and they are not receiving any prospects/picks in the deal. If you do that swap, you're no longer offering them any salary relief/flexibility.
