We didn't do that because we're over the cap. We would have to send players. The Nuggets instantly just trimmed 9 million from their payroll instead of having to wait till the end of the season. The clippers were able to do it because they're still under the cap since Corey and Elton left so they can take on more than they're giving out.

There's a report we tried to send them KVh + something most likely Boone , Krstic or Marcus but Denver declined because they wanted something we couldn't offer . Complete Capspace savings , we just couldn't swallow Camby and not send something back.

I'm gonna say they wanted Lopez or Sean. I would have loved it if we pawned Stro/KVH/Marcus for Camby though. Knowing our awesome yet greedy management, we probably were demanding Kleiza too lol.

well it is interesting to note that Nets would be willing to part with Krstic (sign & trade) so despite what Thorn says he may not be in the Nets future (not surprising but confirms what many thought).
Everyone has heard that Marcus has been trade bait all off-season so that's not new. I know the kid was up & (mostly) down all last season but he's had on the cheap and does have talent. I would see what Marcus does in this new environment and decide after this season if you want to pick up the option on him. I really think Marcus still has the ability to be a productive PG in this league & would hate to see him find his groove somewhere else (sure i'll probably regret writing this halfway into the season hah).
SWat fans will be happy that the Nets are offering Boone instead of SWat. Boone has been the more consistent and productive of the two so far in their career but SWat has had more highs and obviously more potential. I do think a Kidd-less team and potentially a roster where Boone doesn't play as much with VC could expose Boone's lack of creating his own offense but then again a bench duo of Boone/Marcus might click. Problem being, outside of Lopez there is no one currently on the roster other than Boone (or a re-signed Krstic) who is "thick" enough to handle the Center position on defense. I think if Boone stays Krstic is gone or vice-versa.
I hope Kiki wasn't putting all his eggs in the Camby basket. This roster needs to be trimmed and balanced. What's Plan B ?

Not paying 20 Million Dollar ( due to Luxury tax ) for Marcus Camby was what they wanted and the Clippers where the only one able to offer that.

We couldn't JUST trade a 1st and 2nd rounder. We're over the cap. We'd have to send contracts with it. KVH's deal wasn't enough to make salaries match. our TE wasn't enough either. We'd have to give Stro/Filler. What it came down to is that Denver saves 10 million instantly getting them close to the lux tax threshold. If they traded with us, they'd have to pay a player the whole season and pay a boat load in lux tax charges. The only way we could have traded for Camby and still achieved the cost cutting goal Denver got was if we did a 3 way with Golden State we're we'd get Camby and something, We'd send GSW players/expirings and GSW would send their 10 million TE to Denver. It's too tricky though.

It's disappointing that money was the only factor for Denver in this trade. Honestly, the best NJ could have really offered was this 2-part trade:
Part 1: KVH, Hassell and Marcus for Camby
Part 2: TE (From the Kidd trade) for Atkins
Counting the luxury tax it would have saved DEN $17.75 mil on the luxury tax this year. However that's still $4.5 mil less than the savings from the Clippers' trade and it doesn't factor into the amount owed to Hassell/Marcus in future years.

It really doesn't bother me since I don't think we need to add any big men at all.

It'd be nice to have a big man who I would consider a vet teach our young guys how to play defense. We have no assistant coach right now to do that. I guess Najera can fill that void, but whatever.

Yeah Camby's another quality character veteran , he would have been nice with the young guys but oh well.

Yeah he would have been nice but that is why we have najera.
This would have been a wasted traded. Thank God he went to the clippers.
OT: I wonder what Walsh is going to do if he cant find another team to take Randolph. That will be f'ed up, but great for us.

Greedy? I say (Please Use More Appropriate Word) if the story is true.
The Nets offered Denver a package of young players (Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, a take your pick kind of scenario) and expiring contracts for Marcus Camby, but the Nuggets didn't want salaries coming back, Nets officials said.I would have loved that, especially if it meant a combo of two of those.
Really hate being a Nuggets fan this offseason.

http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/nets/arc ... _el_p.htmlThorn, who virtually never comments on trades or trade rumors, did however shoot down a report that the Nets offered Josh Boone, Marcus Williams and Krstic to the Nuggets for Marcus Camby before the former defensive player of the year landed with the Clippers for basically a Happy Meal.
“Not true,” Thorn said emphatically.
I'm happy we didn't offer it, but I'm kind of angry we didn't try to go after Camby. Hell, I would've given our second more than swapping.

I gotta admit, I always enjoy Thorn how he handles the media. If he is doing something but doesn't want to elude to it, he dances around like "we've talked to a lot of people about a lot of players" but when it's not true he's just like "NO ABSOLUTELY NOT"

The Nuggets' ownership looks like they are as cheap as ours. If i was a Nuggets fan, i'd be absolutely livid...if Sean Williams becomes an all star the owner will look foolish.
I'd rather keep Sean and Josh and S&T Nenad and Marcus out of here.

Why would he look foolish? He wasn't offered.
