This is great news.

If this happens, this might put the bulls out of the Lebron sweepstakes.

^^^ I was thinking along the same lines.

Can the Bulls afford to give Gordon the same contract? If not can we get in there? What is he looking for 12 mi plus per year?

Gordon is screwed. First he wants too much. Second If he wants around $80 mil, I say we dont get involved.

Gordon is an absolute idiot for not taking the 5 year, 50 mill deal they offered him last summer. Personally I think he'll accept his qualifying offer (like 6.4 mill) and just go to the highest bidder next summer. He'll be one of the top free agents and just do that. Regardless, he's not gonna get the deal he wants.

 @Lebron sweepstakes.

Cleveland will offer Lebron the MAX, we cannot. He is not signing here...stop falling for this garbage.

Gordon would be a solid pick up but he overrates his own value....no one is paying 80 mil for a one dimensional, undersized two guard that cannot defend and cannot run the point.

^^^^ You sure about that? I'm pretty sure moving Marcus freed up the remaining cap room we needed for the max contract. If not, we can buy out Dooling or Najera that summer (both I believe had 500K buyouts that summer) to free up about 2-3 more million. So I'm almost positive we can offer a max deal.

I agree with you on Gordon though.

if it was me running the Nets I would inquire with Chicago if they are interested in a deal with a first round pick and expiring contracts. Then bring him at 10 mil per year.

I agreed he wont get more than that. Only Iverson is getting that type of money.

Only problem with paying him something like 10 mill a year is that if we bring in a player like that what a long term deal, it kills our cap space all together for a max contract player in 2010 unless we trade Vince for expirings. I'd honestly rather keep Vince at that point. Granted, with Vince we're still a top 5 pick in the 2009 draft, but without him we probably got top 3 in terms of the percentage chance of a #1 pick.

Another problem what is Harris looking for with extending his contract?

Isn't Harris deal set in stone for at least 4 more seasons? If you look at Sham Sports, it has his contract set in stone for 5 more seasons actually.

I'm not being a dream killer my friends, i am being realistic here....unless the CBA has changed w/o my knowledge, Cleveland can offer Lebron a higher contract than we can...so our max is different from the max that the cavs can give him.

As of now, the "Lebron to NJ 2010!! OMG!!!" talk is pure fantasy if you ask me and I also blame Nets management(not Rod and Kiki, but that snake Ratner and his crew of scumbags who are taking this team out of this state for nothing more than a shady real estate deal) for continuing to add fuel to the fire of this...POPPYCOCK...about lebron coming here...and if the Cavs continue to try and build a team around him that works, he's not gonna jump ship for less money and uncertainty that the Nets will offer. We have to be very mindful of how Cleveland conducts business over the next two seasons...its not some foregone conclusion.

Its not a sure thing either way, but realistically, if we are going to have money free in 2010 im not getting my hopes up that lebron will walk away from less money to sign to us just because Jay Z is his idol....and the Nike 100 million rumors are not based on any facts. We have to pray that the next two seasons in Cleveland go AWFUL basketball wise and FINANCIALLY, and that i doubt because Lebron probably makes then so much cash that they'd have no problem doing what it takes to keep him there and surrounding him with talent...the money isnt just the only factor here.

From what I thought I knew, I was under the impression that was only the case when talking about his 1st max deal after his rookie contract. I thought it was free game when some exercises their ETO in a regular contract. If that weren't the case, 80% of big time free agents would stay with their current team because they can offer the most cash while the other 20% bolt either because they ABSOLUTELY HATE their current organization or their current organization said "We won't pay you that much"

^^^ If this was also the case then for every writer talking about "Lebron to the Nets in 2010" on a regular basis, you'd have just as many writing articles about "You're crazy. Cavs can offer the most money. Nobody is dumb enough to let Lebron James walk. Stop writing articles about Lebron to the Nets so I can stop writing articles about the fact you all belong in a mental ward."

Honestly a lot of us want Lebron so when we talk about summer 2010 we just refer to it as Lebron, but there are a lot of awesome players that will be available that offseason. I'd be fine with most of them.

I could be wrong but if we can offer more thats great...

whether Ratner will really break the bank in a bidding war is another story...with this team bleeding money, i dont trust the owners of this team to follow through...we'll see though.

Please!!

Ratner was willing to pay a loser like VC. He isnt going to pay Lebron?

The guy is a businessman first. Lebron would remake all the money they lost. Add Yi. All Ratner sees is $$$$$$$$$$$$ <ding, ding, ding sound effect!>
