Memphis/NY?!

I am laughing out loud.............Yeah I spelled it out.

Why?

Because of all the delusional Knicks fans on these boards that kept scoffing at the idea of Randolph being traded for next to nothing.

I would say 70% of Knicks fans on the Trade Board, if not more would absolutely flame other posters for any trade involving Randolph where the Knicks took back one of the 4:
A) a bad contract B) a player who is not an Allstar or close to allstar level C) no young talented guy with potential D) or no 1st round pick

Now it seems as though the Knicks will be taking all those things back all rolled up into one, or should we say to players for the said Zacho.

On top of this, Memphis has the balls to demand a 1st round pick from the Knicks!
They are the ones getting the near allstar player, sending the Knicks back semi-trash, who aren't even true expirings, and they have the nerve to ask for a 1st rounder from the Knicks!

I know this is part of negotiations, and if the Knicks give up the 1st rounder they will probably get back a decent young guy, or Walkers expiring, but it is just too funny.

Oh the irony.

On the trade board Knicks fans were consistently turning down deals for true expirings and maybe one lame 1st rounder or one young player still on rookie contract who was a mid talent potential guy. Absolutely blasting the OP and anyone who agreed it was fair.
Now they might be sending out the 1st rounder to have the privilege of inheriting one Marco Jaric and the Human Victory Cigar himself.

I don't know, I like this deal for the Knicks. Would I give up the 1st like the Grizzlies are demanding? HELL NO, unless it has the same crazy restrictions our GSW pick has. Darko could be decent in the East. He did well during his time in Orlando, he's a big expiring, and honestly, I like Marko Jaric.

Also, they do this deal and they basically have (or would be 1 more move away) from having the cap space for Lebron. At that point it'd come down to how badly Lebron wants to play in New York (which is debateable even though critics say it's a given) even if the Knicks young kids aren't panning out or if he'd rather take a shot playing in Brooklyn with us. Bottom line, Lebron is gonna either stay in Cleveland or go to a major market (see: LA/Chicago/NY). It just comes down to whoever he thinks he can win a title with and perform at a high level for a number of seasons. This deal moving Zach would put New York on the path to being a major player in summer 2010.

I understand what you are saying, and completely agree with you.
I just thought it is honestly comical how all these(not all, just seems like a big majority) Knicks fans thought a truly reasonable deal such as this didn't have a snow ball chance in hell of happening, and yet it is on the brink of going down.
Most posters from other team boards were proposing deals similar or slightly better then this for the last 6 months to a year and a lot of Knicks posters were flaming them as if it was blasphemy for them to receive such an undesirable package for their superstar 20 and 10 guy Zach.

Oh yeah I agree with you too. Yes, the guy WILL get 20 and 10 wherever he goes, but as long as he has the stigma that surrounds him, you're never gonna get dollar for dollar for him. I know A LOT of fans overvalue certain guys (I still do it for Boone, not so much Sean anymore but still I think a little more than I should), but Knick fans can be a little wacko sometimes. Cavs fans are starting to get that way too. Laker fans too from what I've seen. Regardless, we're in the era of basketball where EVERY trade looks like a complete fleece basically. It really took center stage thanks to us landing Vince a few years ago. Now everyone believes they can get a deal like that (especially people making trades for us to give up Vince).

Regardless, I still feel the Knicks can get a solid young guy and an expiring for Zach if they tried hard enough. I'd love to see the Knicks trade Zach/1st Rounder for Darko/Jaric/Warrick, but I don't think that'd happen. I actually hate the Knicks sucking. For a few years, we had a solid rivalry brewing, then it just turned into us destroying them and now we both are mediocre lol. I'd be nice if both teams get good at the same time and just have a great local rivalry again.

In general, most fans tend to overrate their guys. How many times did we deal with Maverick fans who said Harris is too much to give up for Kidd (and this was in Kidd's PRIME lol), only to see us get Harris last year for Kidd (and Cuban had to shell out A LOT of dough to get the deal to go through also).

I'm sure Memphis fans laughed at other better deals than just Marc Gasol and Crittenton for Pau. Portland fans are terrible too (with the SAR and Randolph trades). Heck, I'm sure we value RJ more than just Yi + Simmons.

Fact is, we all make educated guess (some more than others lol) on what the teams will do (or should do). But in the end, we really have no idea what these GMs want (cap space, picks, tank lol, etc...)

considering NY got into this position by tossing around #1's like they grew on trees and Walsh has been brought in to change the mentality. We want to get under the cap but not at the cost of the future.

Why should NY have to pay with a number 1 just to get rid of Zach. Walsh is doing the right thing. If no decent deal pops up then go into the season and see what can be done to increase his value.

Also keep in mind that as bad as NY was/is, part of the problem was that Isiah had NO play book. His whole game philosophy was get the ball to Crawford and let him create. First it was the power offense in preseason. Then it was the motion offense, then it was get the ball to jamal and watch.

I'm have faith that Mikes offensive schemes will better utilize his skills and if nothing else, there is always a team looking to make a trade for a playoff push with nothing to lose and an unwanted lotter spot waiting.

I agree with Walsh giving Memphis the finger in regards to the pick. Memphis is basically giving up nobody that makes a significant impact on their team in return for a guy you KNOW will drop you 20/10 a game, even if he has some slip ups in the media along the way. Zach to me wasn't too bad last year in terms of staying out of trouble. I think it's a guy that, if he feels like he's wanted, he'll work harder to not screw up a good thing. If Memphis accepted him, they'd have a great young group with Conley, Mayo, Gay, and Z-Bo. Memphis is crazy for wanting a 1st too when they're giving up none of their young guys in return.

I hope they never trade him. Just narrows down the number of teams competeing for the King.
