I think Hayes should start over Simmons. Yi should still start, at least for now. I think if you put Hayes into the starting lineup, it'll open up the court more and Yi will get even better looks. Some would argue that defensively we would take a hit, but I just don't see Simmons making that big of an impact on defense. Hayes is faster and seems to contest more shots, not to mention he's leaps and bounds better offensively than Simmons.

Simmons is such a terrible player..he has no basketball IQ whatsoever..he's decent defensively, but he shouldn't be getting a high amount of minutes IMO..Jarvis is significantly better..when CDR is healthy again, hopefully he starts getting more minutes than Simmons, which probably won't happen though..

Yi is just frustrating..he's one of the most useless players in the NBA when he isn't making his jumpers..one of the worst defenders in the L, and he doesn't understand how to box out or rebound in general..

I would like to see this

Devon
VC
Hayes
Boon
Lopez

Then I would like to see Dooling,Anderson and Yi as a pinch hitting type of role off the bench.
Then some good muscle D from Ragtime....(sorry) Stro, Swill, simmons and dare I say it Hassel?
Najerwahwah and ager can rot on IL. CDR can slot back in when healthy.

Thoughts?

I'm all for inserting Hayes into the starting lineup. I really love what this guy brings.

That being said Frank & as others have mentioned Hayes does bring an energy to the court that is great for a bench player that I can't see Simmons doing. Also, Simmons doesn't get the hustle plays that Hayes does but he's decent defensively & he does have better potential (despite the #'s) to hit those corner 3's. Finally, Simmons might just be a better fit playing with Devin / VC where he can just park himself in the corner & look for those two to breakdown defenses & find him when he's open. I don't think the 2nd unit guys have that ability to compliment Simmons game the same way and who want's too see Simmons try to create his own shot ... Hayes can fit well as both starter/backup, Simmons I'm not so sure...

Yi - This kid has tons of potential & he's already shown glimpses. Despite the surprising 0.500 record fans have to remember this is a rebuild team and Yi has shown enough glimpses of brilliance & growth imo to deserve to start (unlike SWat for example who has shown little & whom I wouldn't mind seeing Swift at least for now take his minutes). Yi's post defense is atrocious (perhaps over-commits due to lack of strength) and he's got to learn not to settle for perimeter shots (that nifty drive , pivot & shoot over Pau showed he has speed, footwork & shooting ability to do much more than camp around the perimeter looking for Vince/Devin to create shots for him...he can create his own shots if gets comfortable/confident)

Hassell & Ager must only see game time when the game is definitively over for the good or the bad.

Once Boone comes back I think SWat becomes the odd man out. and it's early but so far I was completely wrong about Najera's positive impact on this team...yikes. I do think Swift can be productive here but I know i'm in the minority with this point of view.

It will take Bobby until the 25 games mark to settle down, but I understand the impatience of the fans. I think Najera will probably be a good fit once he is healthy and contribute.

Well Yi needs to have two years to develop basically it is his rookie all over again.

I would like to see a better starter at SF someone who is a slasher that can get to the hoop. Actually, once the team is entirely healthy that will tell us where we can make some imnprovements we are in good shape.

Replace Simmons with Hayes/Dooling(sliding Carter to the 3) depending on matchup. Move Yi to the high post on offense instead of letting him drift on the perimeter. It will increase his aggressiveness, rebounding, foul shots, and FG%.

I'd still start Simmons and Yi, but limit Simmons' minutes... With Yi I think you have to roll with the good and bad, starting Boone (when he gets back) might get the Nets another win or two but if we don't develop Yi now, when will we?

Forcing Yi to bang with guys who weigh twice as much as him - Brilliant.

I agree on all points...that would be my move...especially that I see Hayes wanting to start, fit in and prove he's a starter in the NBA...Simmons has just missed too many open shots...in places where he should be easily making them...

I love Yi. As much as he is inconsistent, I still want him in the starting line up. He spreads the defense and does hustle. He just needs to stop fouling and learn how to create space when shooting. He'll be fine when he gets both those two down.

I don't like the idea of Boone and Lopez starting next to each other. I like having a 4 who can spread the floor. Having guys like Lopez and Boone who play close to the basket will really hinder Vince and Devin getting to the basket because it'll clog the lane so much. If Yi is taken out of the starting rotation, only guy I want starting over him right now is Ryan Anderson because we won't have to make as many adjustments in our offensive philosophy.

Regardless, as inconsistent as Yi is, we're doing so much better than I originally anticipated. If we were determined to make the playoffs this year, I think Yi would have been yanked by now, but if he's having an off night, it looks like Frank is noticing that and keeping him minutes down to 20-25 minutes and getting others more reps. I don't think we have to address this situation right now, unless someone else on our roster shows any sign of consistency that won't hurt our current offensive schemes.

I think Yi stays in the starting lineup (hopefully, along with Brook). These to will be a major part of this team in the future, and they need to develop. Let us not get caught in the idea of the playoffs. I've always said that the problem our past teams had was that we didn't have any young guys emerge in the playoffs (aside from Krstic). Well guess what, our past teams were better than this years, and because we believed those teams were better (and had legitimate playoff hopes), our young guys got benched when they didn't play up to standards or were inconsistent. Let's not do the same for this team, which is more of a rebuilding team than a contending team.

Allowing a 7 footer to drift around the perimeter - Brilliant.

Guys that weigh twice as much as him? He plays PF. He's listed at 240. Dirk is listed at 245. Bosh is listed at 230. He is not physically inferior to any PF.

Furthermore, the high post isn't "banging." It is around the foul line, where Yi can face up and shoot, or use his great first step to drive past his man while giving the defense less time to react, which is perfect because Yi can't adjust to the help D.

well, at this point, I'm ready for change and Hayes @ SF...though I can see him finally settling in regardless of his role, 30-40 games into the season...we need more than flashes of good play...he's been making such bone headed mistakes...though you can see him taking his frustration out on the glass latley and even boxing out with physical play increasing slightly...he's been a little more active...there has to be a timeline for him to either fit in the starting lineup or not...right now has hurt us (too many missed opened shots and mistakes, TOs, ect..) more than he has helped our starting 5...

I wouldn't start Jarvis..Nets need some quality off the bench, and Hayes has been solid this year..he's instant offense, so there's not really a need to have him in the starting lineup..

just limit Simmons minutes..or give them to CDR or Najera once they can come back and play effectively..

Yi needs to stay in the starting lineup. If we went to Lopez and Boone we would have nobody to spread the floor. Teams aren't afraid of simmons and Lopez isn't ready to have the ball dumped to him in the post and have the offense run though him. The only scorers we would have would then be Carter and Harris. Yi has done much better then I expected at this part of the season give him a chance, we can't break his confidence. We're 9-7 with this lineup lets roll with it.
