I'll Ask It Again...

Would you do it?

Simmons/Sean/DAL1st for Howard/Barea

Bear in mind, both Josh and Jose have team options in 2010, which means that their contracts don't have to conflict with our 2010 capspace.

Yeah I'd totally do that. I think Josh needs a change of scenario and is still a good teammate. He's just a little wacko that's all. I actually really like Barea too.

I wonder how Vince and Josh would mesh well. Would we have an RJ/VC situation on our hands?

To be honest... i don't think the answer is another scoring SF. I think we still definitely need an upgrade over our SF's but our main NEED is STILL a PF, a starting PF. I'm a huge Yi fan but based on my evaluation, a team built like ours does not fit Yi's style of game. Yi is a good player and going to be a great one but he will be more suited to a team like Wizards or maybe Portland. We need a bruiser at PF, somebody that can go directly to the hoop and not be afraid. Many times i've noticed Yi hesitated to go to the basket strong when he is a bit open and with his speed he can definitely make an impact but he would stop and pass the ball or turn and fade away, sometimes he makes the basket but most of the time not. Actually, i've been seeing Anderson do it more than Yi and that just kills me because Yi, with his speed and size, could've done it much better, he wouldn't get blocked as much.

All we need at SF is a player with a decent offense but a better defensive game, lots of hustles, like maybe Bowen or someone better. I dont really think VC can co-exist with another SG/SF player because it would mean that they will be running another play for another guy with the concept, so why not just run it to VC right? As for DH, it's different because DH's game is completely different, he holds the ball all the time and anytime he can just run a play for himself and VC will just wait outside for an open shot. Same goes with Brook when a post play is being run for him.

It's just something i noticed. Maybe im wrong but it's something i like to voice out and see if im making a point here.

Dallas doesn't do this deal in my humble opinion.

I think we're all over it.

Actually, a DAL fan thought of it, and I have asked others who would not be opposed to it at all. I liked the idea, too, so it stuck in my head. I agree that Cuban may have a "once bitten, twice shy" aversion to talking with Thorn, but other than that, it could be good for both sides.

i don't think Cuban will 'drop the soap' again with Thorn around. lol

I have a feeling it wasn't JES12 or JoHos Hydro that you're speaking of.
And I only see the sense in this if Dallas is going into full rebuild and if that is the case I would like to try to target Dirk.

If they at some point decide to go into a full rebuild 2 things will happen:

1. Jason Kidd would hang himself

2. If Dallas opted to do this deal, the pick they'd want the most is their own back. I already think that pick will probably be a lotto pick, making this move guarantees it.

That is the pick Ecuhus has proposed be included in the deal.

I have a hard time seeing the Mavs making this trade. In addition, as good as this team has looked so far, I need to see more than 16 games before believing that we should deal a likely lottery pick. The goal isn't to be a 45-win team and bounced in the first or second round.

Yeah I agree, I don't think the Mavs would do this. I think they could get a better deal from someone else. I also agree that if we move any package of players/picks, unless the trade puts us in win now move (without giving up some make focal points of the future like Lopez/Yi and I am including CDR cause I love the guy), we are not giving up any picks that we feel will likely be lottery picks.

Actually, you're 100% wrong.

This deal is JES12's brainchild. And believe it or not, JHos Hydro was even OK with the deal (although obviously not thrilled), when he replied to a previous thread I made on the Mavs forum.

As for Dirk, I'd rather work with our twin towers, Oaf' and Aff', than have to give up one (or likely, both) of them plus other MAJOR assets for Nowitzki.

I'm surprised, yet not shocked.
I remember he had a trade thread up that was, I believe, 2 1st rounders, including their Dallas pick back, Swift, Hassell and I believe either Boone or Swat for JoHo.
I said it was too much and said to take out their pick.
He suggested replacing it with Brook.
I said no and I think his last offer was something like both picks and the expirings plus I believe it had a Boone or Swat of Bass swap if I am not mistaken.

Anyway, if we could keep Lopez, Harris, CDR and Carter, I would be willing to give up anything on the roster plus picks for Dirk.

Even with the DAL 1st returned, we probably don't have enough assets outside of the 4 you mentioned to acquire Dirk. I don't even understand why you're sweating him. Simmons/Sean/Yi/DAL1st might be a decent offer for him, but what good would it do us? They could get better offers elsewhere, and I don't see his presence vaulting us into upper-contention. If I'm giving THAT many assets, it would only be to contend.

I understand we can't put together as nice a package as other teams, I was just politicing.
But how is a lineup like:

PG Devin
SG Vince
SF Hayes
PF Dirk
C Brook
with a bench of Dooling, Anderson, CDR, Najera, Boone, our 1st next year, whoever we sign

not a contender?
