Carter for Deng: FULL TRADE AND VOTE

LAC and CHI fans have both expressed approval of the linked 3-way proposal below.
Now, I want to hear the Nets' perspective on this deal. Please be as clear and thorough in your answers as possible, if you don't mind.
Trade ID# 4884926So, we would trade Carter, Simmons and Ager for Hughes, Deng and Ricky Davis. I think that a Harris-Hughes-Deng backcourt would be a monster defensively, and their talents also suit our system on the offensive end. I know Davis has had his "issues", but he's a cheap vet who could thrive in the DDM.
This would give us a younger core come 2010 (Vince would be 33 by then, compared to Luol's 25), and the difference between Deng's and Carter's contracts means not having to worry so much about, for example, Krstic's new contract or Boone's cap hold. We would still have capspace to sign a max FA.
Soooo...

Hell no.
Keep Ricky Davis away from the young guys.
Keep Hughes away from this team.
I do not like Deng at all.
He is RJ lite.
No thank you.

So, we cut Ricky, or we ask for Hart instead of him and send Davis to CHI? I wouldn't prefer this, but don't let a minor detail derail this whole idea.
Why don't you like Hughes? Did he kick your cat or something? Larry's no saint, but he's not a team cancer or anything. Plus, he's finally healthy and playing well offensively, he's a better defender than Carter and his contract is 2010-friendly.
Now, I thought you DID like RJ, very much, prior to the Yi trade. I don't think that Deng and RJ are very similar (for example, Luol is a much better defender), but at least explain your position, please.

I'd be inclined to say no to this trade. As been said, keep Ricky Davis away from the kids. Hughes isn't a cancer like Davis, but I really don't care much for him. Besides, his defense is overrated. He's very much a gambler defensively with his steals, and I also qualify Devin as that (moreso than a shutdown man-to-man kind of player), so having those two in our backcourt means lots of steals yes, but also lots of missed ones that leads to our bigs having to cover for them.
While I wouldn't mind Deng, and I still believe that he's talented, you have to wonder where his head is. The guy hasn't played well for nearly two years now (about 1 and half i guess is better estimate). And with someone signed to a long term deal, that's not something I'd like to gamble on.
Besides, VC is playing reasonably well, and has been a good role model for the young guys in the locker room. As well as Devin has played this year, and he's the engine that makes this team run, I still consider Vince the conductor of this train due to his leadership.

Deng is not an impact player to me and as Speedy said i have the same concerns about the decline of his game.
I did like RJ and was 50/50 at best about the trade.
I actually agreed that RJ needed to be traded though and the jury is still out if we got good value for him.
Agreed though, Ricky Davis can simply be cut.
Hughes to me is a cancer.
Not like a Marbury, Iverson tyype of cancer, but at least an irratant and a slight instigator.
He was already bitchin' about playing time and his role in Chicago.
He should never be a 1st or even 2nd option type, but he feels he is.
He is not a better defender then VC by any means, I agree with Speedy on this one again.
He is a gamble in the passing lanes, steals guy, not a good man defender.
I feel you hit excellent overall value with this trade but I am very anti Dung, I meant Deng.

I'm not thrilled about it but I like it and if it really came along then I think I would do it. Cut Davis ASAP and let Hughes walk after next year or try and package him with boone for an expiring and a pick.

This is a valid point, but with all trades come risks. He has finally recovered from some nagging ankle issues (similar to VC's, as a matter of fact), and let's not forget, he's only 23. He has a wealth of potential yet untapped, and I think this system would do him well.
My biggest worry is not his health (he'll be fine) or his contract (he will quickly become the type of player who's worth it), but his assertiveness. On one hand, I feel that he and Yi's game complement each other beautifully, but both are passive types. You could even say the same about Brook to an extent. We don't need a loose cannon or anything, but my concern is that we'll trot out a talented, rangy, skilled frontcourt of shy little tabby-cats. Otherwise, I feel like this is exactly the type of move that a young club should make. I really like Carter, but I'd like to trade him while he'll still fetch top dollar. He'll be a very expensive role-player at best by the time we go on a FA shopping spree in 2010.

I should add that, back in HS and playing in Europe over the summers, Deng was known for having an indomitable competitive fire on the court (of course, he was teammates with Villanueva, so everything's relative!

). So, it's not as though he's always been as passive as he is now in Chicago. He just needs motivation to get that edge back.

C'MON, MAN!
I already wrote that if Ricky Davis is SUCH a big problem in everyone's eyes, he and Hart can swap destinations, giving us an insurance PG. Why is everyone hung up on the minutiae of this proposal?!
I need you to tell me that there is a bigger reason to your "no" vote in this Deng-Carter deal than Ricky Davis.

I almost said yes to this.
When I saw Ricky Davis I quickly changed my mind.
As far as Deng, Yeah his numbers are going to go down with Rose. The guy is a scoring PG. That is the trend. With the way Harris is playing and if RJ was here, RJ's numbers would have gone down too. The other thing is Deng's contract is too much. I would rather trade VC to a team either a young SF or draft a SF with potential to be the next RJ or Deng. Portland comes to mind. They need someone to help Roy.
VC and whoever / pick for LaFrentz, Outlaw/Webster/Batum, and a pick or Bayless.

i dunno, you guys get a starting SG (Davis) and SF (Deng) plus an expiring in Hughes.
still why breakup the best backcourt in the East. I say don't mess with this and try to trade your surplus of biggies instead.

Deng's recent problems are due to Bulls new offense.
It is not adapted to Deng's strengths & he is clearly frustrated with it.
Bulls will either need to change their offense or eventually trade Deng.
