The Official Nets Draft Watch Thread

Well, the basketball junkie in me says it's never too early for a thread about the upcoming draft, even if we have no idea if we will make the playoffs or be a lotto team.
Even if many top prospects aren't even sure if they are going to declare yet.
Even if guys are predicted to go early 2nd round, but might wind up literally lottery picks, as is always the case, as was the case with Brandon Roy, to name one standout amongst that category.

So that being said, here's what I am looking for:

Gimme 3 types of picks:

The first is a few guys you want no matter where we wind up drafting and no matter where he is predicted to be slotted, from the 1st overall to even a sleeper that winds up a mid 2nd rounder.

2nd, gimme a few guys you would want to get if we wind up with the 15th to 17th pick.

Last but not least, gimme a few guys you would want if we wind up with some injuries, go on a losing streak and wind up somewhere around 6xth through 10th.

I'll wait for some of you guys to pick before I do.

I would absolutely love to have Greg Monroe. He can play inside or outside. He is as fluid as a guard and he's an excellent unselfish passer. He plays D. His only weakness is his rebounding, but that can be worked on and masked by Lopez. He would make our defense fantastic and give us a potentially elite high-low big man combination. I wish we were bad enough to have a shot at him, and I'm still holding out hope that we start losing after a really good Carter trade.

I like Harden, Griffin, and Jordan Hill as early picks.

Curry and DeRoazan as guys I would look at in the mid-late lottery.

Some other guys I have my eye on are Evan Turner and Willie Warren.

It's funny, I just mentioned Greg Monroe in the other thread.

Yeah Monroe looks nasty so far this season.

I still want Harden. We're not gonna get him though which upsets me. Unless we completely fall apart, we won't land him unless Stern rigs the draft.

My third guy, I'm gonna go with Earl Clark. I just like what he brings. My only concern is I don't see a killer instinct in him. But I think he's an excellent player who will be around where we are right now projected at the draft. I know a few of you would probably be pissed if we drafted him, and I would too if there was someone better available at our pick, but if we're gonna be at the tail end of the lottery, I think this could be our guy and I'd be totally fine with him.

James Harden FTW!!!

Yeah, I love this kid too, as you know.

You never know, by the time the Tourney is over, he could drop.
Monroe and Rubio might still declare.

Curry's stock could go up even more.

Some stupid team might take Thabeet.

Another team might take the gamble on Jennings.

Blake Griffen is definitley going #1 as far as I would assume.

Jordan Hill might go ahead of him.

He could slip to 7-10 and although I highly doubt it, you never know, even if we weren't a lotto team we maybe able to trade down to get him.
Well, one can dream. :eyebrows:

There's a few guys I really like that should fall between late lotto and mid 1st, the problem is most of them are PG's, although at the same time we presently need a 3rd PG and Keyon isn't a long term answer as the backup anyway.

If Patrick Patterson drops, I really like him too.

I saw Patrick Patterson 3 times in high school and every time I saw him, I started dreaming more about him on the Nets (I would get close to Stro levels with this kid probably if he was on the Nets lol). He's undersized (6'8"-6'9"), but would be so awesome playing next to Brook. He's not solid enough to play the 3 unfortunately but is an outstanding player. Just I can't see the Nets being interested in him as long as we have our glut of big men and his inability to play the 3 consistently. But I agree, I love that kid.

I can't look past my boy Patrick Mills from St. Mary's (if we finish up with a pick somewhere between 15 and 20 and if he's still available at that stage).

The kid is a pure point guard, but one that can flat out score (as shown by his performances in not only College, but at the Beijing Olympics). Add to that his speed (think Aaron Brooks after a six pack of Red Bull) and his court vision, and you have a lethal understudy to Devin.

Yeah, he is definitely on my list for the mid to late 1st rounders.

I like Eric Maynor, a lot, but in this pretty weak overall draft, I don't think it's out of the question he goes lotto.

A few SGs or SFs that would be nice from around 15-30 would be Dionte Christmas, Gerald Henderson, Danny Green, Chase Buddinger, Willie Warren(highly doubt he declares unless he is basically being guarenteed lottery), Tyler Smith, Nando De Colo and Wesley Matthews.

Terrence Williams could be an excellent gamble.

Jodie Meeks could be really solid.

I like

Monroe
Derozen
Holiday
Harden (of coarse)

My favorite is Summers he is perfect for our SF unselfish, soild shooter, plays D

Holiday is my sleeper put him at the 2 wit Harris that would give us a small (he and Harris are 6'4") but he is lock down on D and is lightning quick would make for an interesting back court.

I'm not giving up on Yi yet I still think he could be a PF for the futrure but Monroe would give us a great front court for the next 10 years.

If Monroe declares he is a top 5 pick.
Same with Holiday, slips no further than 8.
Harden goes top 5 as well, more than likely 2 or 3.

I am not big on DeRozan and if he is smart he stays 2 more years.

Might be a good time to bring this one back....

If we do end up lotto like everyone predicted here are some guys I like that realistically could go late lotto:

Earl Clark
Patrick Patterson
Tyreke Evans
Dionte Christmas

I will not allow this thread to die!
CLEAR!!!

Good game on ESPN tonight, with no NBA action, especially Nets, to speak of.
Uconn vs. Pitt at 7:00PM.

I going out on a limb and picking Pitt.

Dejuan Blair is a man amongst boys.
Only 6'6, but he has crazy strength.
I wonder how he will fit in in the NBA?
I think short or not, he may start creeping up draft boards towards the tail end of the lotto.
Still can't see him going any higher then maybe 12 though, his lack of height is gonna kill him in the association, but I could see him similar to a Millsap with a slightly better deep post game.

^^^^Maybe a little....

Hey, I picked the game right.

Another really good game is on tonight. Arizona at Arizona State @ 10PM on channel 99(MSGP).
Harden vs. Budinger.
Hill vs. Pendergraph.
Glasser bombing 3's.

Wake Forest at Duke is on before that. I hate Duke.

Right now, to go on a no faith for our team prediction, I say we wind up the 10th pick again, barring a top 3 jump.

Pendergraph locked Hill down tonight.

I keep telling people I think Hill is being highly overrated, from posters down to the experts.

Harden was awesome on a slice of whole wheat toast.

Budinger looked like garbage, another highly overrated prospect. He's got Wally World with decent defense and better athleticism written all over him. Maybe even Q Rich minus the really good rebounding. Yuck.

Maybe we wind up sneaking into the 8th overall pick.
Maybe Greg Monroe declares.
Maybe he falls to the 8th pick.
Maybe.

I don't think there's any way Monroe falls out of the top 5 if he declares, but then again I never though Brook would fall to #10 :D
