Shaun Livingston

Post#1 » by crazykidd2k6 » Wed Jan 7, 2009 11:53 pm

We should give this guy a try. This guy is perfect combo at the pointguard position with harris. They are almost the opposite of each other nba skills and talent wise. He has great vision, Very tall point guard, good post player, great ball handling skills. The big downside was his knee injury but you have to give this guy a chance because was such a talented player. Obviously he is set back from his injury. He is probably less athletic and quick but that doesnt effect your ball handling skills, your vision on the court and your height so I think he should still be able play or atleast a good role player in the team.

There are 2 problems.

1 is we have to cut someone and with this team and Ratners company hemmoraging money, I don't know that they will even make a small move, although we will have to pay Ager this season even if he never plays.

The 2nd problem is the Opster. Will he even give Livingston a chance?

Anyway, I'm with you, I would love to give him a shot.

I said this somewhere else. One 10-day contract. A second one after that if he does well and pending on that, a final contract for the rest of the season. I'm not in for giving him anything longterm right now.

I agree with Rich. I am all for giving him a 10 day contract. He's definitely worth it and it's there's really no losing out on this deal. Sign him for 10 days. If we like him, sign him the season. If we don't like him, don't resign him. It's simple.

First we have to move somebody since it seems unlikely that anybody is going to get bought out... I'm thinking either Swift or Najera should be moved because moving Ager by himself would probably require the Nets to give up some sort of pick as well... And if I recall correctly the Nets don't have a second round pick this year anyway.

I would move swift because it's clear that Najera is in front of him in the rotation. He's expiring too if I'm not wrong so he's definitely a valuable trading asset.

Nah this guy still has a chance. Think about it. His advantage is his height not his speed. Yes, he dislocated his whole entire knee which is a BIG downfall on his game. Especially for the NBA which quickness and athleticsm are probably the most important BUT, does that affect his advantages to his game? This guy was known for his height, posting up, defense, ballhandling skills, his court vision. So lets break it down:

Does his knee effects his height? NO he will still shoot over point guards.

Does his knee effects his post up skills? Somewhat however, he uses his height as his advantage posting up.

Does his knee effect his defense? NO because most of his defense comes from how long his arms is maybe he wont keep up with some of the seriously quick point guards but it's not like were asking him to be a starter we are asking him to fit be a good back up for harris.

Does his knee effects his ballhandling skills? No, your ballhandling skills come from how much practice not talent maybe he wont be good at driving in but he will still able to protect the ball so he can STILL play the point.

Does his knee effects his court vision? No this skills comes from how good is your iq and i'm pretty your knee and your brain does not go together :D

In conclusion, this guy still has a big chance to prove himself. I see him to become a sam cassell type of player in the future. He wont be as good as people prospected him to be but he will be a good combo for harris. I don't see him being good this year just because he hasn't play ball in 1 and a half years but once he gets into basketball form he will do something.

As for krstic watch out for him because I still see him as a descent center I think Lawrence Frank didn't give him the chance. Just watch in a couple of weeks he'll be the same krstic that we loved.

Whoa I'll read the rest of your post later but Lawrence Frank DID give Krstic a chance I don't see how you can argue otherwise.

Livingston a Sam Cassel type player????

Try a tall Brevin Knight with Abraham Lincoln's knee.

if the doctor let him play basketball his knee must be atleast descent...

Brevin Knight is not even a post up point guard for you to even compare him with him.....

Yeah but when he was still injured He was obviously was not 100% with his knee at all He showed glimpsed that he can play still He went back to rehab right after. What i meant was on the post that we should've at least gave this guy a contract, he deserved it and played him this season if he still has any say.

For Livingston we should give this guy a 2 year contract with a team option I say

Fact is we would have to make a move to open up this shot. Even though we are under the lux tax by a decent amount, I'm not one to just start throwing money around. Only player we could realistically buy out is Ager. I'd still rather work every avenue to trade Ager + either Hasell or Swift or Simmons for 1 player in return. If we somehow free up a roster spot like that, I bet you Thorn will at least call his agent. Even if this happened, I wouldn't offer more than a 10-day contract at first. Give him a 2nd one to get one more look at him. That would be almost a month. If we feel we think he can still ball after seeing him every day, then I'm all for giving him a 2 year deal, possibly with a team option for a 3rd year.

Again, long shot scenario though I'd assume. I haven't read anything on the horizon for us trade wise so I don think this would ever happen.

I only saw the clip of him getting hurt once...I didn't want to see it again. It was worse than Willis Magahee's in my opinion. I can't watch it.

That is true we need to move somebody we'll why not do a trade. What do you guys think of Larry hughes? I saw in realgm they are practically giving him away for expiring contracts so why not throw them swift, hassell and ager? Hughes would make this team faster, solve some perimeter problem, and get a third scorer for garbage. So it would look like this.

Nj Outgoing:
Swift 1 year 7 mill
Hassell 1 year 4 mill w/ player option
Ager 1 year 1 mill
maybe a 2nd rounder

Nj Incoming
Larry Hughes 12 mill 2 years

Then we sign in Shaun Livingston

Nj Line up
Harris/Dooling/Livingston
VC/Hughes/CDR
Simmmons/Hayes
Yi/Najera/Anderson/Swill
Lopez/Boone

What exactly is a post up point guard?
A guy with horrible handle that has to dribble with his back to the basket at the 3 point line?
Or a guy that has such a horrible 1st step he has to post up to get any scores besides transition.

Come on dude, stop.

The last "post up point guard" may have been Mark Jackson and dude was slow.

Livingston was quite quick pre-injury.

I wouldn't trade Bobby Simmons and Hassell for Hughes.

Yuck.
