Yeah, I was the poster on these boards who wanted Martell. I still do, but he wouldn't have done us any good this year, and I think GMs could sense that, which is why Portland didn't make a deadline deal.
I wanted to trade VC for Raef, Martell AND Batum, to ensure that we at least some immediate impact. I figured that for the long-term, CDR and Nicolas would make a great lanky duo off the bench, and Martell plus a free agent in 2010 would be a good complementary starting wing duo.

I still sense nobody traded with portland because of the way they handled the Darius Miles situation. Where the hell do they get off threathening other teams.
Sucks for them, because Raef's contract was the biggest asset this year...

That makes no sense whatsoever... it doesn't matter whos offering the deal... if the deal is beneficial to your team and goes with what you want than you make the deal... Thorn didn't say well I want to make this deal but the way Pritchard handled the D-Miles situation makes me have second thoughts... thats just ridiculous thinking

Re: Webster
Actually I'm pretty sure teams thought about it twice when dealing with portland. Who wouldn't want Lafrentz's contract?? What other reasons are there for NO team trading with portland??

It was Portland who declined the trades by most accounts because the teams Portland was dealing with wanted Bayless or Batum who they did not want to trade away

This makes me assumptions of Chad Ford's source that came out today even more possible for what I thought. We weren't begging Portland to take Vince. We just wanted a guy on their team badly. Likely Rudy or Bayless or Batum. Our management totally KNOWS we won't keep all 5 picks. If they had a guy we felt would be "part of our future" we'd throw any amount of picks at them along with Vince. If we "were trying to move Vince so badly," honestly we could have...easily too. I'm sick of one sided rumors, but that's how most rumors are.
