Official Game Thread: Nets 98 Sixers 96 Final

Post#1 » by lurkingobeiscity » Tue Feb 24, 2009 1:16 am

The Nets are being coached horribly.

Every offensive play is initiated and ended on the perimeter. Two or three times Trenton Hassell has been the hub of an offensive play leading to him holding the ball for 6 seconds at the elbow and then driving for a bad shot. Carter is playing as a jumpshooter. Twice Lopez has had good position in the post on a post up and hasn't gotten the ball, once so Harris could give it to Yi almost at the top of the key and crowded with defenders, and the other time so Carter could shot an off balance jumpshot.

The refusal to post anyone up in this game can be pointed to as the reason this team has sucked on offense so far.

Defensively things aren't much better. Against a good fast break team that has little to no 3pt shooters it should be obvious that every player should retreat to the paint as fast as they can in transition, then seep back slowly to the 3pt line even if your man is walking up the court. Instead the Nets are letting Green and Iguodala get behind them for easy lobs and lead passes.

Anderson and Swat are the first bigs off the bench with Sean playing Center. So far Sean seems to be playing within himself and Anderson has helped the rotations and effort.

As I type Sean takes a great charge on a quick rotation.

Dooling, Sean and Anderson have keyed a better 2nd Q so far and Harris is playing fairly well in both Qs.

^I was writing at the end of the 1st.

Lineup of Harris, Dooling, Simmons, Anderson, and Williams have brought us back.

Harris, Dooling and Sean in particular are playing well while Anderson is fouling a bit too much, but playing well.

The Harris/Williams pick and roll with 3 other 3pt shooters is killing them with Dooling hitting shot after shot.

You know, I never appreciated Dooling until he played for us.

^he would always kill us when he was on the Heat and that's when I started to like him. Really is the perfect backup PG for a young star like Harris.

Carter finally coming back in. Hopefully he gets the message. Some post ups might help Frank.

Good opening plays by Frank in the second. By taking Lopez outside it removes the shotblocking of Dalembert and takes advantage of Miller overplaying on Harris with the backdoor cut. Hopefully he doesn't overuse it now.

Harris makes his moves to the basket so quick that there's always time left for the other team to get another shot !

It's good to see Sean playing tonight, I can't help but think he shaved his beard to "clean up" his act too

Brook Lopez with Lou Williams on him for 10 seconds and the Nets can't even get him the ball.

Wow. After a stellar game, Harris nearly gives it away with the foul and then launches the craziest half court prayer I've seen in some time.
