Patrick Ewing

Post#1 » by Preludepunk27 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 5:34 pm

I was just looking at ESPN Insider and they had an article linked there about Patrick Ewing's contract with Orlando being done at the end of the season and he'd like to test the waters about becoming a head coach. Just seeing what your thoughts are. If Rod and Kiki got off to Frankencool-ade, I still would be weary of picking another 1st time head coach to run things. Granted, the crop of vet coaches out there, you know their strengths and weaknesses so in that decision, you'd pick the who whose weaknesses you could stomach the most. Regardless, I just wanted to see what you guys thought about Patrick as a head coach and would you consider him for the Nets if we had a position available for head coach.

I'd rather give Mark Jackson a shot and have Ewing on the staff ,it would be great for Brook and Devin's development. But that's just a little dream of mine.

I wonder what kind of style of play he would use. Would he favor a slow, half court style like Riley and Van Dummy did with the Knicks?

I don't see him becoming a head coach right away. I feel like guys like him and Kareem are really successful in the player development sector because they have so much experience already. (simply from playing the game) I wonder if he will be able to get out of this role.

Huge Ewing fan, but I dont see him as a Head coach.

If he does get a head coaching job, it would have to be in a small market. He cant handle the media here.

As much as I liked Ewing when he played, I was too young to notice how he handled the NY media? I would think if he was able to handle them all those years, he could handle the area media again. Nonetheless, I agree with you that I think he'd be better to start with a small market team.

I don't like the idea.

Great players RARELY become good head coaches.

Now if he wanted to come here as an assistant and teach Brook a thing or two........

He avoided the media like a Rasta avoids hair clippers.

New Jersey is a large media market??? are you guys serious? when the Nets made the finals we got ZERO media coverage. kidd even made comments about it something like "were on the wrong side of the hudson". I even remember when the nets swept the knicks in the playoffs everyone on espn and all the local sports shows were talking about the knicks rather than the Nets doing a great job.

Gotta look at it from a national perspective. Hudson and Bergen counties are considered in the NY media market. Even though the Knicks CLEARLY get more play, the Nets are still covered in the New York newspapers (even though I wish John Hollinger never covered the Nets EVER). I live in NC dude, an hour away from Charlotte...I barely read crap about the Bobcats. You'd be surprised how big our market it compared to other parts of the country. On a national level, even without New York, we're a big market from that vantage point even if we're abused in our own market.

Haha I really don't either. Like, when you think New York City...you don't think Jersey in any way, shape or form.

What more do you want his is like the third assistant down the line. They still mention if in promos. Ewing is coming to visit.

The fact that Ewing being the Nets coach would put him under a microscope.

Would love to have him on staff but definately not as head coach. He's worked with Yao and Dwight so far and done an excellent job. Add Roy Rogers and Ewing together and Lopez has some of the best big men coaching in the game.
