http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/32 ... s_win.htmlThis can be found on NetsDaily.com but it appears Ratner is still fighting for Brooklyn. According to the article it seems like they are one more court case away from getting approved for this project. I won't hold my breath though because I feel like I 've heard that before.
As much as I would like to have the Nets move to Newark (I'm a Devils fan as well) I think this is the best thing for the franchise. I hope this actually gets done. The faster we get out of the IZOD center the better. Maybe we could actually attract some talent through FA with this new arena. I just want what's best for the franchise.
Thoughts?

I am all for it.
If it gets approved I doubt it is ready by 2010.
I would be really disappointed that this doesnt get done and the Nets are sold to someone in Seattle.

Yeah a few months ago they mentioned there were 1-2 court cases that would be settled by March/April and if Ratner won both then it's set in stone the Nets will move to Brooklyn. We'll see. I think it'll get done. I'm pretty sure they're shooting for the 2011-2012 season now though which is more realistic.
In regards to selling the team, I think Seattle is the only city that if the Nets moved there, I'd continue being a fan of them. Problem is that they would probably go back to the Supersonics name. If they moved anywhere else, I'd have to think hard about it. If I ever had to change teams (which I don't want to think about, I'd probably become a Nuggets fan cause Kmart is still one of my favorite players in the NBA.

I hope to god they don't move to Brooklyn, whats wrong with you guys. That would be so wack, if all we had was a hockey team ,what the hell is that.If they leave NJ i am no longer a fan. This is are team, the only one we got,why would you want them to go.I don't care how many fans there are and i don't give a dam about the free-agents in 2010 because were not getting any of the big names.I'm happy with what were building with are young talent and we still have plenty of draft picks.RT knows what he's doing he'll get this team back to it's winning ways before he retires. All we have to do is move to the Prudential Center and this team will be selling out every night.I loved wooping the Knicks all these years noway will i ever be a NY fan.Except for the Jets but i consider them a Jersey team.

look, it is tough, but u do want the best interst of the team, right?
well the move to brooklyn, makes all the sense in the world, finacially and marketing, if they are stuck in the shyt we call the meadowlands we will not attract fans or ever be recognized as a big market franchsie, at frist i was like u, but when i tought about i want to see this get done, whether or not we get any big name free agents...

Maybe I'm gettin old but why do people say are when they mean our? I know its sounds silly but it's a pet peeve of mine.
New jersey or Brooklyn. I don't care. Any where else then i become a dwight howard fan. and i get to bed praying that the Bumphuk Idaho nets trade Harris to orlando for some magic beans and Lopez goes to the cavs for a new home loan for Ratner.
Cheers

I do care. I won't be a fan if they move, and don't retort by saying "best interest of the team." I don't care about the best interest of the team if it entails moving out of the state, because at that time they won't be my team anymore. But, alas, I'm not bitter or anything, its just whatever.
Its funny, though, because if the Nets were to move to Brooklyn, I'd probably go watch Knicks games instead...they're closer. Just jump on the path and I'm there.

It is actually just bad grammar. I'll play along though. It's because everyone in America wants to be a pirate!
It's not like we're moving from Jersey to like Kansas City or something. It's 5 miles away basically, it just happens to be in a different state. I'm sure there were some Jets and Giants fans that felt the same way when they moved to Jersey. You know what though? THEY GOT OVER IT.

And that's why I hate the Jets and Giants...don't play in our state if you don't want to take our name.

it looks like you and I are the only ones that feel this way. i support the Nets because they are the New Jersey Nets. New Jersey...... the state I live in. same reason i stopped supporting the metrostars when they were renamed new york red bull. this is the reason I always hated new york sports teams my entire life. and im getting sick of hearing "whats best for the franchise". WE ARE NOT A PART OF THE FRANCHISE!!!! we are fans. yes some consider fans a part of the franchise but when you get down to it were not, if we were than we wouldnt have big time business people taking our team away from us like this.

You do realize that was a legality thing right? Not that they didn't want to change their name to New Jersey Jets or Giants. They legally couldn't.

That's untrue. I have no idea where you got that from. They didn't change for the sole reason to benefit from the market name of New York, that's the only reason. But yet, New Jersey tax payers are going to be fitting the bill for utilities when the new stadium is finished.

^^^^ Not all Nets fans live in Jersey. Just like not all Laker fans live in LA. Crap how many people in Jersey are Knicks/Sixer fans. This argument makes sense, but at the same time, makes no sense when you think outside the area. Hell we have guys on this board from Australia, China and Estonia on this board. The team moving 5 miles, even if it's on the other side of the Hudson, a pimp slap to our fan base. I understand rooting for the team that plays in your state, but think about states that don't even have a team. If they had an NBA, would they care where they moved? I'm gonna say no because they'll RARELY go see them anyway. Teams are corporations; corporations move national headquarters all the time. I just don't see why 5 miles is a make or break sometimes in this situation. You could make an argument if we were rolling to Kansas City, but come on.
Unless the organization did something that is a flat out pimp slap to their fans, I don't think abandoning them is warranted. Crap where my parnets live in Jersey, it's probably easier for me to head to Brooklyn.
All I ask, when you bail on this team is that you don't start watching one of the "it" teams right now like Portland and Orlando. As much as they're good and have solid young talent, it's kind of like selling out. You can make an argument "oh Dwight is my favorite player." Yeah no $#!T he's a monster, but when you go to bet at night, I hope you realize that's a totally sell out move. It's equivalent to if you're dating a girl for a few years, love her and all, but she takes a new job at Sizzler and you don't like that she works weekends, so you tell her it's over and start dating the new hot girl in school everyone is sweating on. If I EVER had to leave the Nets fan base, I'll probably just get back into college basketball more and just watch the NBA to "watch" because basketball is like crack rock to me, but Thorn would have to do something COMPLETELY (Please Use More Appropriate Word) for me to do that. I don't think moving 5 miles is gonna do that. I rep Jersey like you wouldn't believe, but the fact they move a few minutes away isn't gonna make me all pissy. I'll pay the same amount by train that it costs to park my damn car at the IZOD, so the move just feels moot to me.

No, the Giants is a fact. They had to become a "corporation" to differentiate themselves from the New York Giants baseball team back in the day. It's possible, but rather expensive and annoying to go about changing just one word.
And don't blame them for the taxes. Blame the city of New York for screwing over both teams and the NJ Sports Commission for trying to bring revenue here. The PSL's are a load of crap I'll give you that, but there are other people over both teams histories that need to take the blame more than these teams.

I'm not thinking about outside of this area, I am thinking about this area.

Um, okay? Its make or break because they are leaving the state...literally, if they were moving to south Jersey, I'd root for them. If they were moving to, lets say, Brick, and called themselves the Brick Township Nets, I'd root for them. But since they are leaving the state, I feel no loyalty to them anymore. Not only that, the Knicks play closer to where I live, so by your argument, I should be rooting for them because they are five minutes away. I have to drive fifteen minutes to see a Nets game, where I could walk a block to the path, get on the train, get off, and be at MSG in ten minutes.
Crap where my parnets live in Jersey, it's probably easier for me to head to Brooklyn.
Then have fun with that.
All I ask, when you bail on this team is that you don't start watching one of the "it" teams right now like Portland and Orlando.
I'd watch the Nets on tv, but if I felt the need to go see a NBA game in person, I'd be going to the Knicks, they're closer.
If I EVER had to leave the Nets fan base, I'll probably just get back into college basketball more and just watch the NBA to "watch" because basketball is like crack rock to me, but Thorn would have to do something COMPLETELY (Please Use More Appropriate Word) for me to do that. We are obviously fans for different reasons. I am a fan of them because they are in New Jersey, if they leave, my fanhood gets put on hold or gets transfered to another team in another sport that comes to New Jersey, like the Marlins were going to do a few years back. I'm not saying you are wrong, we just have a difference of opinion.

It being tedious/hard to do does not equate to legally unable to do, I'm sorry to say. Plus, its really not that difficult to change a corporate name over a span of thirty years, the time that the Giants have moved from New York. And, its only costly for apparal and stationary, other than that, you could whitewash the name in a matter of a year or two.
And don't blame them for the taxes. Blame the city of New York for screwing over both teams and the NJ Sports Commission for trying to bring revenue here. Your argument is weak. You can't blame the city of New York for mistakes made to the Giants thirty years ago: the Giants had no intention of leaving New Jersey when they started inquiring about a new stadium a few years back. And I do blame the NJSEA, they should have required the Giants or the Jets, I'll take one at this point, to change their name to New Jersey in the terms of lease, as the city of Miami did to the Marlins a year ago.
And the PSL's? Of course they're a load of crap, but the Panthers are a lot worse: they revoked season tickets if a person didn't buy a playoff ticket this past year.

Nets should move to Newark and be the Brick City Nets!!!!! and heres something else to back you up. theres a big difference between corporations and teams. i dont walk around saying "i buy adidas clothes because its made in indonesia" i buy adidas clothing because its nice. but i support the nets because they are in new jersey, even when theyre terrible.
