ARE YOU IN THE TANK?

Post#1 » by NetsForce » Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:29 am

Are you in the tank or outside of it?

I'm currently outside of it and don't plan on jumping in it until the fat lady sings.

I've been on it for a while now, im ready for our next chapter and hopefully we can get a fearless warrior in the draft.

It's not like we really have a chance getting into the playoffs when we have a tougher schedule than our rivals. We are kinda banged up and we still have Lawrence Frank :x

Nope.

Here's to winning as many games as possible down the stretch and somehow landing Brandon Jennings with a mid-round pick.

Brandon Jennings, just what we need, a rookie with our lotto pick at one of our 2 positions where we have our 2 best and likely franchise players.

Sure why not, I mean even if we get in we're gonna get swept by Lebron..

Might aswell get a top 8 pick and draft a 3 to start alongside Brook and Lopez for the next 6 years..

??? haha j/k man. I'm still in the Harden or bust mode. Earle Clark has a solid big east tourney. I can see him stepping up his game in the tourney as well to make himself a top 10 pick again. I think he's basically saying right now to scouts "look when the season is on the line, I bring it." Granted scouts would then question his heart during the dog days of the season, but he's playing great basketball right now. He'd be incredible for us at the SF.

I know we're going to play hard the rest of the season, but we're gonna lose a lot of games. That isn't tanking. That is just how a lottery team plays when they don't care about the percentages that go along with where they finish. I think to the Nets, the lottery is the lottery and they have the future picks to move to wherever they need to get so they may as well just stay the path. Granted the path to me is missing the playoffs by 2-3 games (more if Devin misses a decent amount of time), but as hard as we try, I can't see us getting the 8 spot.

Open your eyes, because we're practically there. If the season ended today, we'd have the 9th-worst record in the league. Indiana is a 1/2 game behind us, and they stand a very good chance of passing us before the season is finished. Heck, the Pacers have been playing better basketball since the All-Star Break, without Granger and Dunleavy for large chunks, than we have at full strength.

Again, I don't think that by "tanking", anyone means that we should bench Vince and Devin for the rest of the season and go out of our way to try NOT to win, or anything like that. I WOULD limit their minutes to under 32mpg, though, because they are obviously nicked up, and we're simply outgunned and outnumbered in the race for the postseason. There's no reason to push our two star guards past the redline for the next two months, only to have them need offseason arthroscopic surgery or something like that. It's just dumb, and it's that type of strategy that kills careers early.

how would you all feel about exploring VC to protland again this offseason and drafting demar derozan to play the 2? i think the vc trade consisted of bo outlaw, sergio rodriguez, and some other bologna. wed have a nice young lineup

Open my eyes? If Harris misses a week or two, we're finished in terms of the playoff hunt. Vince will have sick games if that's the case, but all a team has to do is make sure they keep Brook from going off (see: last nights game) and it's an easy victory for whoever we play. If Devin misses 2 weeks (shoulder injuries are difficult to come back full strength on so quickly) at the minimum, we'd probably win like 2 games max during that time. By the time he came back, we'd be like 5 games back in the race in my opinion.

Only way we still compete for the 8 spot is if Devin misses no more time. If he sits out more games, we're gonna fall back more and more to the point that it would be pointless to rush him back.

TANK,

The combination of this west coast disaster and Devin's injury = this team is dead in the water. Please don't rush Devin back in a pathetic attempt to earn the right of being slaughtered by CLE/BOS.

We have little to no shot at getting the 8th overall pick.
We likely will wind up with the 10th or 9th pick barring a top 3 jump or trading up.
In order to get the 8th spot GS and or Toronto needs to wind up with a better record then us and that is highly unlikely with the amount of games left, no matter how hard our record is.

OK, I see where we went wrong. By "THE 8 SPOT", I thought you meant the #8 pick in the draft. You meant the 8th seed in the East. Oh, no, you're right, we have no chance of landing the 8th seed anymore. That's my entire point, so we agree. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Thorn has to revisit this. Portland will lose and will regret not getting VC.

Right now i am still debating Outlaw or Batum (doubt they get rid of this kid now) after what he did to us the other night. He is going to be a good player.

As far as Derozon, I would rather have Harden.

I bought the tank in the first place. I just hope we can get high enough for a shot at Willie Warren or Monroe.

Make it James Harden instead of Derozan. As high as Derozan's ceiling is, he hasn't shown it consistently, meanwhile Harden is legit and can start at the 2 from day 1.

Problem here is Raef's contract was the reason the trade could have worked. I don't think it could work now. They'd need a 3rd team to come in, which I don't know who that could be now. In this stage of the game, I want to see where we pick first. Portland is LOADED with young guys, I can't see them using their draft pick this year. Outlaw/Sergio/1st is something that would interest me now, We'd just have to figure out a 3rd team to come in with players to make salaries work. We could basically trade up (if we have to) to get Harden, then use our other assets to trade into the middle of the draft and take a guy like Earl Clark giving us 2 high ceiling guys to play the 2 and 3. Of course this is WISHFUL THINKING lol. It won't happen.

It's a MASSIVE pipe dream until we a) figure out where our pick is in this years draft and b) figure out if we can even move Vince. I'm fine keeping Vince, but if we moved him so save some cash, but giving ourselves a strong future, I'll do it.
