He is hot trash, but I still think he has the potential to be a solid 25-30mpg player.
That said, the traveling circus that comes with Yi as a package deal and Yi himself should get themselves traded far away from here if they knew what's good for them, or this guy is coming for them:

I still think Yi can be good in this league, but there are catches. He needs to stop playing for his National team in the summer. If he wants to become a NBA-caliber player, he needs to rest his body this offseason and also spend an entire offseason with our coaching staff and trainers. I'm fine with guys playing for their national team in qualifying years, but not many good euro-players in the NBA do what Yi does every offseason.

I could totally see Yi ending up as a bust, but I don't really blame it on him as much as his situation. I know there is a lot of pride playing for your country and he puts a lot of pressure on himself because he's so popular in other parts of the world, but if he WANTS to play well in the NBA, him and his management HAVE to make some compromises. If not, he's just the second coming of Wang Zhi Zhi then.

Plain and simple, I really dont know.

It would be so easy to blame Frank here, but that would just go into a Frank did his best discussion.

I was reading one of the beat writers mail bags this morning and he had a good take on Yi's regression this season. The guy seriously needs to relax and spend an entire summer only with our coaching staff.

Yi needs to be used less as a spot-up shooter. He should be taking his man off the dribble every now and then and posting up a couple of times each game...

To do what.

Do you honestly think Frank and Brian Hill is going to give this guy confidence.

Frank has no confidence in any player on this team not name VC. And that is scary in itself.

Yi doesn't understand the complexities of the NBA game. An offseason with the trainers and staff here is 49024809824 times better than an offseason playing with his national team any way you cut it right now. If we are investing another season or two experiment in Yi, this is what MUST be done. Send him to the Big Man camp in Vegas, make him play summer league again. He needs to be surrounded by these things. He needs to put himself and his NBA career first if he's truly wants to be successful here. If he can't, leave. I love the kid but that's the truth.

I have no desire to see this guy in a Nets uni any more. Fegan, the traveling Cantonese circus and Yi can go screw. The trade sucked, should've pushed for Charlie V or a future draft pick.
Try to move him for a future heavily protected 1st, a late 1st in this draft, maybe Belinelli or a player of similar caliber.

Prelude, I agree with you but Frank and coaching staff isnt that good.

IMO A new coach is needed to really tighten up this group. We need a disciplinarian. We have young guys that need some structure and discipline. Someone that oozes success. Sorry Frank oozes self-esteem issues and it wont get better when he becomes a lame duck coach next year. He is going to do whatever he can to win and that only means more confidence issues.

VC4Pres, I am not saying Yi is the next Dirk, but I think people need to relax. Yi needs work. IMO Thorn knew that. Thorn's mistake was thinking Frank was going to solve that.

Frank is lucky that Harris and Lopez are very good players even though Harris' D is regressing. IMO Frank is letting Harris do what he wants. I DONT SEE HOW FRANK IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HARRIS' DEVELOPMENT. He is just letting Harris play. As much as we talk about Avery, I think Avery understood Harris.

I agree with your comments on Frank about Harris. All he did was let him play, basically geared the offense around him because besides VC we didn't have a specific player to gear the offense around.
Yes, Lopez has the ability, but Frank didn't allow that to be utilized even if he was a rookie.

IMO, the reason Opie is still here is money. Yes Thorn made a mistake giving Frank that huge and unwarrented contract and yes he had a man crush on him, but if he was getting paid peanuts he would have been gone already.
The only way Frank gets fired before his contract is up is if a coach Thorn just can't pass up is available this offseason and won't be a year later.
I have a feeling Frank is either here all season, or till about midseason, when he would get his money either way and it doesn't make a difference monetarily.

I don't need Yi to be star to like or appreciate him, but he is just so bad.
He honestly does have some amazing gifts and skills basketball wise and yes, it honestly must be hard to be him, with the weight of a huge nation on your shoulders, with so much expected, but I don't really want a fragile minded wimp with low bbiq to be the future of this team and his handlers are not gonna let him be a situational role player at this early stage in his career without being a detrimental distraction to the rest of the team.

I am not one of those people that would dump him for nothing, but I would take another player that has a lot of potential that is buried on another team's depth chart for him in an even swap, hence the reason I would welcome a trade for a lot of other young players for him with open arms.

I believe Phoenix, Golden State, Memphis and a few other teams are stil very interested in Yi(I am talking about the actual team's FO, not their fans). Trade him and give him his freedom, lol.

I think Kerr was pretty high on him, but I didn't follow him at all this season. Did the guy really suck as much as you guys are making it seem?

To start the season he was "okay" then he put together a sick stretch (I think it was only 5-7 games long) before going down with an injury to his shooting hand... Post-injury he was pretty atrocious =\...
