VC Wants To Remain A Net
http://thenetsarescorching.wordpress.co ... next-year/
This is just awesome to see. I think if we lose Vince, we lose a ton of production we would not be able to make up. That would mean that we would be even worse this year. I actually think with a smart #1 pick and the development of our rookies this year we can make the playoffs next year...if Vince is on the team.

Re: VC Wants To Remain A Net
I would love us to make a play for David West. I don't know if he is available, but New Orleans is looking to cut salary and if they don't make a deep run into the playoffs I could see them blowing it up to make a full rebuild around Paul. Peja will likely be impossible for them to move for cap relief, along with Peterson, so the obvious candidates are Chandler and Posey, along with West. West is signed to a friendly contract, so without big incentive, there is no reason for them to move him alone, but if a team was willing to take back Posey and/or Chandler in the deal and include something decent in the deal in addition to salary relief, I could see it as a real possibility.
Maybe someting like Simmons/Yi/09 pick for West/Posey. Depending on who is left at our pick it could be a really good deal for both, if NOH was looking for a salary dump with extra incentive.

Agreed, remember the beginning of the season everyone was saying we had the best backcourt in the league. We need someone who can score and also provide veteren leadership and Vince fits the bill. I do not want to see us move him to dump salary. I do not want to see us do another RJ for Yi type gamble either if we move him it should be for someone proven who can help right away.

Agreed. When we made the RJ move, I liked it even though it was a gamble (We had to dump one of those salaries). I am really excited for next season already. Brook with a season under his belt...the rest of the League better take notice.

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but before this season started I had said it would likely take 41 wins to get into the playoffs and 42 for the 7th seed and it is looking that way. Next year it might be 42 to even 44 wins just to get in the playoffs in the East. The East is back even if the West is slightly more consistent 2nd to 9th.
I still do think it is very realistic as constructed that this team is a 42 to 45 win team next season.
Thing is we have to see if VC stays, who we draft and if Rod makes a big move.
I am very big on getting West if it is possible. The Nets will have some of the best assets in the league period this offseason and next season to make a trade. We have a gang of young talent, and up to 21 mill and change in expiring contracts, along with multiple draft picks that include a lottery pick. We are in prime position to make a major move while retaining the core of Harris/VC/Lopez.
I tell ya, I think David west would fit nice on this team and although the 1st offer I put in this thread is a little ambitious, if the FO was willing to eat Peja's massive contract, I could honestly see something like Yi/our 09 lotto/Simmons/Hassel/Boone or Swat for West and Peja. Maybe even throw in Jarvis and something small and get Posey if NOH wanted to cut more salary.
Gives us a sick lineup that doesn't really impact the future talent wise, just in salary, and even that is only effected until the 2011 offseason and if really inclined we could resign Jarvis, I figure NOH would just buy him out for about half his contract.

How can you say best backcourt when they play NO D?
Best Offensive Backcourt!!! I can tolerate.
When you mean "veteran leadership" does D come in to factor?
VC fits because he is what we have. VC trade is inevitable. The question is only WHEN?
I dont care what VC wants. I know what I want. I want to get more young prospects along with draft picks and have the offense go through Lopez. So whatever it takes to make those happen, I want.
People are in love with the VC factor but we havent won $hit while he has been here. So the praise is HALF-ASS for HALF-WHATEVER.

what would a potential trade for West mean for the FA pool next year though - in terms of the Nets (hypothetically) signing Wade or LeBron?

That's more than likely a pipe dream anyway.

The chances of getting Wade or LeBron are as likely of OBAMA erasing the deficit by half at the end of his term.

I'd be so pissed if we didn't get either and half the deficit is erased by the end of Obama's term. That's right...I put the Nets over the economy.

And how exactly do you plan on adding this PF?

You are the scientist when comes to salary cap stuff. But i would imagine that you start with Yi and simmons contract?
Reasons for one of these players is that we are not in the running for any of the top FA 2010. LB is off the market this summer. Spend the money this summer by trading for one of these players and use your future picks to bring up youg talent.

The issue isn't making the cap numbers work. The issue is that this team does not have the chips to get this young all-star PF like a West or Amare. It is widely considered to be a weak draft and Yi's value is in the toilet.
Expirings are nice, but without real value added, they aren't worth that much. Even in this economy, teams like Cleveland and Portland were unable to turn their big expirings into top players.

Re: VC Wants To Remain A Net
My hope is that they will cave in get something for him because of his player option and PHX probably not going to pay the price to resign. The same goes West and Chandler NO is probably will be in cost cutting mode as they enter into the summer.
Also, in regards VC4P comments what is it that dont like about Amare?
This team needs a mean, nasty player that is going to inject some toughness to the young boys. I hear he is selfish but that is okay anything to put some toughness into this team.
