If I was Rod Thorn I would......

Post#1 » by aussienet » Thu Apr 16, 2009 7:17 am

I want to play a game with you... Sound Familiar? Because of the low profile in Australia I really am not up to speed on the players coming out or coming over. So, I would like you guy's to name your top 11 picks (I say 11 cos i'm not sure if we finished higher than the bucks I know we finished equal but who holds the tie-breaker?)
Anyways. I would like to find out who the nets should pick if we landed 1 or 2 all the way down to 11. I don't want a mock draft. I'm after players that suit our needs. To play or draft and trade.

Cheers!

First of all, I think VC should stay and hope he does. My picks are based on our need of a PF or VC moving to the 3 (which I like) and getting a 2.

1. Blake Griffin
2. Jordan Hill
3. James Harden
4. Demar DeRozan
5. Earl Clark
6. DeJuan Blair
7. Chase Budinger
8. Tyreke Evans
9. Sam Young
10. Wayne Ellington
11. Gerald Henderson

Not high on Henderson, as you can see. Also, I think Hansbrough is a bust at the next level.

No Brandon Jennings G_Money? I don't think he's dropped off that much.

I really like Gerald Henderson actually...but with that said, I would ONLY be happy for him if we traded down to get him. Now, I have absolutely no clue why we'd ever trade down, but if we for some stupid reason moved down to something like #17, I'd be totally pumped to land Henderson there. I really don't see a need for him though because I think CDR does a lot of what Henderson can do though.

I understand the thread, but I'm just gonna list the players I'd be happy with the Nets drafting somehow instead:

Blake Griffin
James Harden
Earl Clark
Jordan Hill
Demar DeRozan
Sam Young
Tyreke Evans

If Chase Buddinger wears a Net uniform, my brains will be splattered on the wall behind me Shawshank syle.

Actually, there was a window behind the warden's head and that's where the bullet and some of his brains went. It wasn't a wall. Gotta get your game up, Prelude. You're falling off.

Haha yeah you're right. I haven't been posting a lot, then I go and flub a shawshank scene. It must be the 60 hour weeks I'm working. I'd like to give a special thanks to the current economy for burning me out mentally so this flub could happen.

Unless we were trading him why draft a point guard, especially the next Mebury?

My top 11 regardless of where they should be drafted:

Blake Griffin
Jordan Hill
Earl Clark
James Harden
Terrence Williams
Demar DeRozan
James Johnson
Jeff Pendergraph
Sam Young
Dionte Christmas
Gerald Henderson

I didn't list any point guards, nor Greg Monroe(announced he's going back to school).
I didn't list any centers either because we have Brook and the centers in this draft are weak with the exception of Thabeet whom I am not even sold on.

This is my list.

Blake Griffin
James Harden
Earl Clark
Jordan Hill
Demar DeRozan
Sam Young
Wayne Ellington

The only way Nets trade down if they trade with Minny. If this happens, I say pick Ellington with thelowest pick. Image Ellington and CDR running around on each wing like Rip, One with the ranged jumper and the other one slashing to the basket. The Nets would give teams fits.

if i was Rod Thorn, I'd fire frank, get a good proven coach, keep Vince, draft a prospect and move to Newark for a year...

As others have said, I made my list based on team needs. With Harris and Dooling, there's really no need to spend a draft pick (that high) on another PG.

@Prelude - Nothing wrong with Budinger. Solid, fundamentally sound player. Can get after it defensively. He's more of a slasher though, which I think would fit what we're trying to get at that position. He's really a SF but can play some SG, if needed.

You obviously don't value my life. Buddinger is a roll player in the NBA, at best a 6 man. When you're in the lottery, I never look to draft a guy like this. If Chase is picked even in the top 20, that GM doesn't deserve his job. He's a 1st rounder, nowhere near a lotto pick though.

LOL..

I don't see him as a lotto pick either, honestly, but he's a solid player.

Thanks guy's, I'll do some research on those players listed.

Hansborough was my next question. I'm not saying we draft him just interested in your thoughts on were he will go in the draft.

He looks like he has a Christian Laetner type career ahead of him to me. But I'm only observing from like half a planet away.

Cheers

Laetner would have been a pretty damn good player if he didn't have the knee problems he did.
Think Udonis Haslem for Hansborough.
I figure he'll go mid 20's to maybe one of the first 5 picks in the 2nd round.

Budinger is a decent player. He can drill the deep ball pretty consistently, he is pretty athletic and can finish well on the break, he's a solid rebounder, he's a pretty good passer and he's a dirty player, which I hate unless the guy is on my team. He sucks defensively and has limited lateral quicks, his handle is so-so and is limited to what he can do to create his own shot. I think of him as a Q Rich pre-back troubles. I would be pissed if we drafted him with our lotto pick, but I wouldn't mind if we bought a pick or traded someone like Boone or Swat for him.

I find that nostalgic video gaming does the trick. Give it a try.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go listen to some late 90's ska and play some goldeneye. Should do the trick!

The goal should be to secure one of these players with thought of trying to get back to the playoffs.

Griffin
Harden

After that the rest of the list these players will need at least two years to develop!!!!!!
The "Turnpike" deserve a NBA championship!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right. Thorn will call Stern tomorrow to tell him we'll take the #1 overall pick.
