NETS LANDING BOOZER ???

- I have this gut feeling that the New Jersey Nets will try to land Carlos Boozer this summer...
That is IF he really opts out. I'm not quite convinced that he will. He may want to enter the 2010 free agency class too. He can get alot leverage at the PF spot if Bosh and Stoudemire stay with their respective team. But then again, he said he will; we'll wait and see...
- Now the other possibility is trading for him in a «sign and trade» situation.
The Utah Jazz like Paul Millsap alot. I think they feel he can grow with Deron Williams into something similar to Stockton/Malone. With playing time, he is pretty much a 20/10 + he is younger, a better defender and more affordable than Boozer.
The Jazz has nice complementary pieces in Brewer / Korver / Kirilenko (virtually untradable contract wise). But in any trade the Jazz will look forward to get good back-ups at PG/PF/C.
If some way we can put a package matching those requirements (three way trade to be considered as well) or even two of those; the nets might land Boozer.
Let's say Simmons + Anderson + Second round pick = Boozer
Or Even Simmons + Anderson + Williams = Boozer and expiring contract or pick
- The advantage of getting Boozer for New Jersey...
With Boozer, the Nets will have a good mix of veteran-youth core on the floor. And I think they will complement each other nicely, especially with their playing style. His presence may get them deep in the playoffs. And you know what that might mean in 2010, there is one spot left on the starting 5; I'll leave that up to you readers to dream (even though I think it won't happen)
Offensively, just imagine all the pick and rolls, pick and pops, drives and dish between Harris and Boozer, Carter and Lopez and mix it up as you wish. But also on the defensive end, I think Lopez and Boozer will make a great pair under the basket.
- Salary Cap Management
In order to do this and because Boozer will command a salary of $12M or more, The Nets will have to be a little stingy and chose wisely in the upcoming Draft. They will have about $5.4M in expiring contracts by 2010-2011 season.
A couple of salary cap moves this season will help them greatly this year and NO not Carter; why give up 20ppg 5rpg 5apg. Those are very good numbers for a shooting guard. If the Nets do land Boozer this summer, the team should instead trade : Hassell, Hayes, Najera, Ager and Williams possibly for expiring contracts for 2009-2010 season.
- The Team Roster
The Nets should do just fine with a 12 man roster. In this economy, no need to pay 3 guys just to sit on the bench for nothing. Teams will look to be more efficient with their money with the new salary cap. Expect a lot of players to go overseas this summer they will get more money + those contracts are net of taxes...
Starting 5 (If sign and trade with Utah happens - most probable scenario)
5. Brook Lopez
4. Carlos Boozer
3. Chris Douglas-Roberts
2. Vince Carter
1. Devin Harris
------------------------
6. Keyon Dooling (combo guard)
7. Yi Jianlian (can alternate at 4 and 3 and even 5 depending)
8. Josh boone
9. 1st Round Rookie (best if SF/SG Slasher)
10. Jarvis Hayes
11. Expring contract
12. Expiring contract
Let's just enjoy the playoffs for now....
