Do the nets do this trade? (rough draft)

Now at first this trade might look a little crazy and biased, but just hear me out for my reasons and work with me.

Also, this deal only works if Phoenix doesnt pick up Nashs option, and resign (or S&T him for abuot 3-5 mil)

Outgoing For Toronto: Jose Calderon, Marcus Banks, Jason Kapono

Incoming For Toronto: Steve Nash, Vince Carter

Outgoing For New Jersey:
Vince Carter

Incoming For New Jersey:
Jason Richardson, Marcus Banks

Outgoing For Phoenix: Steve Nash, Jason Richardson

Incoming For Phoenix: Jose Calderon, Jason Kapono
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now hear me out because even some people from Toronto might not like this trade, but please read the reasons for all three teams.

Why For Toronto: You dump Kapono and Banks contract. Get in return 2 superstars in Nash and Carter. I didn't just throw in Carter because i'm a fanboy and want him back in TO, but I feel hes a great go to guy at the end of games, and will greatly improve the 2 spot. Nash who will come back to Canada to end his career, although aging can still play at a high level.

Why For New Jersey: You get a wing player in replace for Carter. Although Richardson is not on Carters level, he is an athletic wing who can create his own shot, entertaining, and will be able to run with Harris. Not to mention he's younger and also has a shorter contract. Now some NJ fans will turns their heads because of Banks and what comes along with his contract. But, believe it or not, if given a chance, he can be a solid backup PG. Which is a glaring hole, which was noticeable when Harris became injured this season. The cherry on top to me is both Richardson and Banks contract come up in the same year.. so that's 16 mil off the books in the same year.

Why For Phoenix:
You get a great young PG whose locked up on contract from now till his prime will be over, on a great deal too, in Calderon. The reason Phoenix will turn their heads is because of Kapono, but the positives with this is.. You take Richardsons huge contract off the books. Also, Kaponos contract is up a year before Richardsons. Also, we've seen how Kapono can play in a properly run offensive system with Shaq in the middle.

Other Thoughts:

Now, I was thinking about throwing in Barnes to NJ, because they need someone to fill in the 3. But, when I went to the Pheonix board, for comments on Barnes... there was mixed reactions, some liked him, some hated him. So this would depend upon Phoenix

Also, I considered throwing Shawn Williams to Phoenix. I remember him not being the most famous player in NJ and there being locker room troubles. Plus it might be needed to match salaries im not sure. But like the Barnes idea.. this would be up to NJ.

So tell me what you think. To me personally I dont think its completely ridiculous... but I am from Toronto and we're getting the two superstars so, thats why im looking for other opinions.

I won't completely grill you or your proposal (since others most certainly will and I already hammered the trade in the Trades & Transactions forum). But Carter's 2011/12 year is a team option. It is not guaranteed. That means that Richardson is not a shorter contract and the actual savings from Carter to Richardson/Banks amount to about $500K over the life of their contracts.

Considering the financial relief/savings is you're main selling point here, I think its safe to say you're going to get a unanimously negative response here.

No I understand where you're coming from. My main goal for NJ was I know you were looking for a back up 1... and I still feel banks hasnt had his chance yet. Also having a younger RJ to be more serviceable longer, instead of holding onto a declining superstar while the team is in rebuild mode. I threw the contract comment in there, because either way you'll be having about 16 mil coming off the books in one year. So if it doesnt pan out, you have alot of cap space.

But I can understand the holes in that, thats why I said it was a rough draft.

I was trying to see if there was a way I could throw Marion into it too somehow. Obviously making it a much bigger deal with more players. But im pretty bad at numbers.. plus its unknown what Marion will want for his new contract, seeing how he thinks hes a superstar

Also maybe trade TOR pick to NJ and NJ pick to PHX

I really don't think NJ is overly concerned with finding a 3rd string PG. If they trade Vince they are looking for at least 4 to 5 mil off the cap and something good in return.

Okay I get it, what if Toronto threw in its draft pick this year? To me thats pretty fair value. Considering, during the trade deadline the best deals I remember teams were offering for Vince was Houstons T-mac, and now hes done in surgery. Also, San Antonios, which just had a bunch of expirings and Udoka from what I remember.

No Shot Carter ever returns to Toronto. There would be riots in the streets.

Eh that's mildly debateable. A theard with Carter going to Toronto always pops up 1-2 times a year when trade rumors circulate about Vince. We always get a handful of Raptor fans that come here saying that for as many people that hate Vince in Toronto, there are others that would welcome him back. He's grown up a ton since he was traded to the Nets.

Also, when you consider this deal....Calderon, trash and a bench player who can only shoot, for Nash and Vince, giving you a ton of cap room next season when Nash can become a free agent, I think their management would totally be willing to try this experiment.

Could you offer some more insight? Like who do you guys think you can get for Carter? You don't feel Richardson, a 7-9 draft pick, and banks who in 10-11 contract is going to be fairly attractive. I just want to know what you think is better out there on the table.

We are not doing that. I does not make sense for us at all to do that. We give a divison rival our leader, a guy that scores 20ppg,5rpg, and 5 apg.Plus, we do not get any big expiring contract back, and J-Rich doesn´t do what carter does and can not get the same importancy Carter has to this team.
The only way we trade Vince away is if we get a good young prospect back and an expiring contract, or a superstar big man.

But what team do you think is willing to offer that? Im not trying to be rude im just trying to make it work. I dont think you're going to get anything higher in the draft then 7-9, unless a win now team gets a pick (ala Washington). Even then its very iffy. The main point that im trying to put across is that Vince's time is limited. You guys are not winning anytime soon, Vince's value is only going to keep going down. By the time you guys have a solid team, Vince is definately on the decline. Why not pick up Richardson who can fill a big hole you guys will have after trading Carter at the 2, a early first draft pick.. and a backup PG whose contract will look very attractive in 10-11
