Bruce Bowen(plan for 2009 and 2010)

Everyone knows we will try to get an upgrade on the SF position, and that our biggest needs are defense and rebounding. At the same time, the Spurs arent looking that great against the Mavs(they are still playing while i post this) and word is that the former NBA champs will consider trading some of its older winning pieces(not named Duncan,Parker, or Ginobili). So, i thought about a trade that would help both teams:
NJN get: Bruce Bowen and Kurt Thomas
SAN get: Trenton Hassel(assuming he wont opt out), Sean Williams, Eduardo Najera, and our 11th pick.
Why for the Nets?: Besides improving our "D", with Bowen, we would get a very good center in K.Thomas to back Brook Lopez up, and add rebounding(he´s avg. 5 rbds in 17 min), and he has a solid mid-range shot that we could use.We also would get rid of players with contracts that will go through the 2010 season in Najera and Williams(Bowen and Thomas are both expiring contracts next season). Some may complain about the draft pick, but this year´s draft is weak and i think we could ask for San Antonio´s first next year(lottery protected), which should be very strong.(we would have 3 picks in 2010 draft and if we dont want to use all of them, we could trade up).
Why for the Spurs?: They get young assets in Williams(also a shot-blocking) and a lottery pick, which they really need, once they dont have many good young players and they are starting to get concerned about that. Second, they continue to be contenders( i do believe the 3 players we are giving them in this deal would fit well there). So, they dont break their core up, get younger, and continue to be competitive.
Then, what are your thoughts?

Wow....all that and a lotto pick? For Bowen and Kurt Thomas?

Dude Bowen may be retiring after the season. He's 37 years old. Kurt Thomas is in a similar boat just a few years younger though

I would never do this deal in a million years. This is the kind of deal that even if you were blackout drunk, you'd still have the common sense to say "no" to.

Well, when i first posted, i didn´t want to part with the 11th pick. Im assuming that we dont move up to the top 3 next may 20th. I would never trade a top 3 for Bowen. I also though that once this draft is supposed to be weak, why spend money(even if its not much) on a player that wont help us next season while we are trying to get cap space for 2010? I also stated that we could ask for San Antonio´s next year(lottery protected), which would give us 3 first rounds picks in a very good draft, and if we don´t want to use all of them, we can always trade up in a package including them( assuming that we, the spurs, and the mavs all make the playoffs, we could look to get ourselves into the lottery and draft a guy like Greg Monroe, for example).
I know Bowen may even retire and that he´s not the same player he once was. But he can still play 20-25 minutes and be a solid contributor for a NBA team, besides he´s still one of the best defenders in the game.

Charles Barkley was right last night. The Spurs lost that series because there bench was just to old.Michael Finley,Bruce Bowen and Kurt Thomas old,old and old.The Spurs are gonna make some serious changes and look to get younger.I don't think we should do the Spurs any favors.

Don't forget Manu couldn't stay healthy to save his live for the past 2 years. As loyal as Tim is to San Antonio and as much as the fans/organization view him as a God, I think if Tim wants another title, he's going to have to do it on another team. They have TD and Parker, but I don't think they can swing some major deals with their garbage to become legit again. I actually like a lot of players on their roster, but they're all system guys in my opinion. Take them out of that system and they are worthless.

If the Nets wanted to Mortgage their future, make a godfather trade with San Antonio with just a bunch of our young guys not named Brook for TD, add the best MLE shooting guard we can and go with a line up of Harris, SG, Vince, TD, Brook for the next few years. I'm not saying we should do this, but I'm just saying TD has run his course in SA and I could see that Nets doing something about it.
