http://www.detnews.com/article/20090430 ... s-possibleEven though we could probably get more for VC, but VC for Hamilton would be interesting.
Imagine rip and CDR running around the wings and Harris running down the middle. Or two man game between Lopez and Rip/CDR. Prince wouldnt be bad either.

I don't know man Hamilton isn't the Hamilton of old he doesn't run off screens / stay in perpetual motion to get his points plus that contract extension he sent me has kind of kind me worried.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3680959Basically Rip's contract looks something like this:
2009-2010: $11,500,000 - 31 years old
2010-2011: $11,500,000 - 32 years old
2010-2012: $11,500,000 - 33 years old
2011-2013: $11,500,000 - 34 years old
(I don't know the per year value of his contract extension and I doubt it's the same every year but I think you get my point...)
It's not the worst contract out there, and Hamilton keeps himself in top-notch shape but if I were the Nets I would try and invest that money in a younger player.
I'd take Tayshaun, and wouldn't mind Jason Maxiell (I know Max is a role player but he always brings the energy).

Add Rip and Shaun, give them Vince/Bobby/Either Josh or Sean and call it the day. I don't think Detroit would do that though. They're likely gonna lose Sheed and McDyess and none of their young front court players have shown they are legit enough to be a consistant starter. They could potentially be a lottery team next year to be honest. Rip and next years pick unprotected for Vince and I think It's worth a shot. I'm rambling and second guessing everything as I'm writing it, but it's some stuff to think about.
Maybe Prince/pick for Vince. Use that pick, our lotto pick to trade up agent get Derozan or Harden and go from there.

According to that Chad Ford article, Hamilton's 2012/13 season is a team option, just like the 2011/12 season is for Carter. I don't know what the buyout is on it, but 25% (in this case around $3 million) seems to be the standard when looking at the buyouts for guys like Carter, Stackhouse, Buckner, etc.
Carter for Rip straight up is a deal that I would make. I know a lot of people have cooled on the 2010 plan, but this deal would save between $6-7 million for that season while having minimal impact on the overall talent on the roster.

The biggest problem with Rip for VC is you take away the deep threat that Devin and Brook needs around him to stretch the defense, especially if Opie is planning on starting or giving big minutes to CDR. CDR's game actually mirrors Rips to an extent.

I would not trade Vince to the Pistons. The fact is that we need him: besides the reasons already said in other posts above, he´s our leader, and every team needs one. The only way i see us trading him is if we get big expiring contracts and young prospects, so we can have more cap space for 2010. Although i do like Rip Hamilton and Prince, i would not deal Vince for them right now.

RIP needs to go to Denver so he can be with his butt-buddy Billups. He looks depressed and lost out there when he can't move without the ball.VC just does so much more than him.I don't think RIP would be good next to Devin cuz he can't create for himself or shoot threes and thats what we need on this team. Our coach is Frank remember

We needed John Salmons. Sic or Rich or VC4Prez was pushing hard for Salmons at the deadline. I always liked him but wasn't sure if he was gonna be too much like RJ in our system which we all know didn't work. But I wonder if it didn't work because we didn't have a front court. If the starting 5 was more even from top to bottom and people bought into the team concept (which vince did...RJ didn't) I think a guy like Salmons on our team could make us a solid playoff team.

I don't know Salmons can go Kobe Bryant level ball-hog sometimes... And that's okay if you're Kobe Bryant because you have Kobe Bryant level skill but Salmons does not.
Maybe it's just me but Salmons also is a bit too predictable and still hasn't learned that settling for that pull-up 3 time and time again when the shot clock is winding down isn't a good idea...
He's a good but flawed player. I don't think there was any need to invest in him at this point in time, even though there's no denying that he would have improved the team.

If we had traded for Miller and Salmons we would be in the position that the Bulls are in right now, if not already in the 2nd round and the sickest part is the Magic aren't that great a team despite their record. We would have had an honest chance to go toe to toe with Cleveland in the ECF.
It actually makes me sick.
I understand we wouldn't have been real legit contenders, just like the Bulls aren't, but it is truly sickening to think what we could have accomplished.
Our team with Miller and Salmons>>the Bulls with Miller and Salmons.
The only downfall would have been that Opie probably would have gotten another extension, although who's to say that still won't happen?
