Off-Season Moves that will make us Contenders

Post#1 » by crazykidd2k6 » Mon May 4, 2009 11:58 pm

I know this trades are very unlikely but, if this can work our team will be unstopable and I believe we can become contenders this way.

First trade: NJN/MINNY

Nets give:
SWAT
Yi
Simmons
Boone
1st round Pick

Nets get:
Love
Smith
Brewer
Miller

Second trade NJN/POR

Nets give:
VC

Nets get
Outlaw
Fernadez
Darius Miles Contract (9mill)

New Line Up:
Harris/Dooling
Miller/Fernandez/CDR
Outlaw/Brewer/Najera
Love/Smith/Anderson
Lopez

If the trade with POR can work (idk if you can trade contracts) This will be the best trade ever. The trade solves 2 of our most important problem which is defense and shooting. The players contracts we get (even the darius miles) all end at 2010 FA. which means we can win and at the same time have a shot getting one of the elites in the future. This new line up has a great all-around feel to it and At the same the players compliments each other very well.

Harris and Miller is just perfect for each other. Both are scorer but, Harris is more of a slasher and Miller is more of a shooter. Then you have Outlaw which has a great all-around game. Great athleticsm can run floor and have a good shooting touch. Very active defensively as well. Lopez and Love is just perfect for each other. Both are good midrange shooter and also have a good post up moves. Love is a great post defender and rebounder. Lopez is a great shot-blocke and good all around defense. Lopez is the better scorer. Love is the better passer.

The bench is also amazing. We add in Fernandez, Smith, and Brewer. All of them have the skills that we need in the team. Fernandez good scorer very fast and athletic also good 3 point shooter. Brewer is very long and athletic also is a great defender. Smith is a great inside scorer, wide body and very strong also has an underated athleticsm. which is perfect.

If we can get all of this player I will gurantee this team will make it atleast at the second round.

Portland cannot trade Miles contract.

I also don't know understand how we trade our best player, get younger and more inexperienced and somehow you think that makes us a contender? Not that I am opposed to either of these trades, cause I love them, but beyond them being unrealstic, they make us possible future contenders and definitely not present contenders.

Also that lineup isn't any better defensively, probably worse. Miller is a horrid defender, Outlaw a highly overrated defender and average at best. On top of that, he isn't really a 3, he is an Al Harrington style 4. Love is a solid defender, but he picks up a lot of fouls due to his lack of size and quicks, although also to do with his age and experience. Rudy is quick with the hands, but he isn't a lock down guy and you have cluttered the bench with a lot of carbon copies.

Again, not that I don't like these trades, but the other teams would turn them down and they absolutely don't make us contenders next season or even the season after that for that matter, maybe in 3 or 4 years. I don't even know if we make the playoffs next year with that lineup.

Off-season moves that will make us contenders? Hmmm!!!!!!!

First, I would check with Phoenix to get Amare' and Barnes. Whatever it takes Anderson, Simmons, Swill and a first rounder or two.

Second, Then i will go after Iverson in a sign and trade

My lineup

PG - Harris/Dooling/Iverson
SG - Iverson/CDR/Hayes
SF - Carter/Barnes
PF - Amare/Yi
C - Lopez/Boone

You would definitely put people in the seats whether it was in Izod center or the Rock . the fastest backcourt in the game. My only problem would be not to trade this year first round pick but i think it would be inevitable. I have a defensive player in Barnes who would bring some toughness. Iverson and toughness nuff said. Amare dunking on cats and running with the fastest backcourt. And I still have a top 5 closer in Carter.

All Frank has to do is come up with a offense that works for everybody. Hmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!
The "Turnpike" deserve a NBA championship!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As already said before, the trade with minny and Portland does not make us contenders now, but in the future. Second, i don´t want to give up on Yi now, unless it brings us a superstar power forward like Stoudamire. Yi did have some good games this past season that show us the potential he has. He has to continue to work, trying to improve and improve and also get confident.
I think VC is tradeable, but it will be really hard to move him because of his contract, and besides he´s our leader and you definitely need a guy like him in the playoffs(just look how the Trailblazers did).

Minnesota laughs in your face and Portland can't trade the contract of a guy they cut. They wouldn't deal Rudy anyway.

Trade our 1st round pick this year and next and throw in a player or two.. get Blake Griffin in this draft. Make a run at Wilcox/Gooden and someone like Anthony Parker or Matt Barnes

Mike Miller's probably available (and Craig Smith too), but with their one-year deals, they may not be attractive to you. MIN will probably hang onto Love after his historic rookie rebounding rates, and Brewer is probably worth more to us then you, for the fans that are still intrigued by his defensive abilities. I don't think this is enough value for the MIN package -- arguably three of those guys could be starters for the Wolves next season.

Haha to dream right? I also love Anthony Parker too. He's be awesome playing next to Vince in my opinion. I don't think we'd really need Gooden or Wilcox. Only way I would say we go after them is if we were able to get any or all of Najera/SWAT off our bench. Still, if we landed Griffin, I still think we need to add a back up PG and a guy who can consistantly play the 2 or 3 (like Parker or Barnes) before we consider adding another big man.

G_Money - I think your right....maybe the Nets will try and make a move to get Griffin. I would think Sacramento would be the only team even remotely interested in trading the #1 pick...

Trade ID #5065576

Random question. I buddy of mine posed this to me. I'm not saying I am proposing we do this, just my friend brought it up last night. If we gave up nothing and landed TMac, would you do it. We'd basically consolidate our expiring contracts into 1 player and if he can bounce back from injury, make our starting 5 one of the better ones in the East. In the past I've vomited at the idea of Tmac on the Nets, but I'm just curious. Houston would still have a nice chunk of expirings coming off the books after the season and add some more depth to their roster. We'd get a guy, who is returns to form, could make our offense pretty fun to watch (unless Frank handcuffs everyone) plus we would have a massive expiring.

Would it be a gamble you'd take if it cost us nothing?

Sorry to burst bubbles here, but nothing we do this off-season makes us contenders.

1- As long as we have Frank, anything we pick up this summer, sets us back for 20-30 games - Implementing NEW offense.
2- Even getting Griffin doesnt guarantee us JACK $HIT, because of #1.
3- Not only does #1 hurt us, The possibility that #1 can be an excuse to extend Frank's contract hurts our future too.

So the bottom line is as long as Frank is here we are not CONTENDERS.

Yeah, it's a dream scenario Prelude. If we were to get Griffin, there'd really be no need to make a play for Wilcox/Gooden. Either of them is an upgrade over Boone/Yi/Swat though. I'd love to land Parker, but he'll likely resign with Toronto or go back overseas. Another person I wouldn't making a run for is Flip Murray. Can play some backup PG and slide over to the 2. Him and Dooling are similar players though. Would give us insurance at PG

I understand that the players I wanted are young however, look at blazers right now they are incredibly young and had a 5x winning season I think the only players that are over 5 years pro is Blake and Phrysbilla. NOT even that most of their players were drafted and have no idea how to play in the nba. Look at the players we have, all of them at least had a great winning college team or had a winning team in the nba. except for anderson and smith... PLUS, if this team can't win please tell me what is the weakness of these team except for outlaw's and love's quick legs??(ohh yeah thats what i want corey brewer cuz of his defense) And please don't tell me Miller is a bad defender he has very long arms and a pretty good legs that can keep up with players. He can be a pretty good lockdown defender. (BTW defense in not talent its how much hard work and hustle) Ohh yeah having Love and Lopez at the same frontcourt probably make us the frontcourt in the east so tell me who can stop us in the east?

Anyway my question for you guys is if you can tell me the weakness of the team if we have these players?

^^^^ @Miller being a lockdown defender. I'm telling you, Miller is a bad defender. He always has been, always will be, it's really not up for debate.

You want to be a contender? Fire Frank and get a real coach here. Sign a vet with great defense such as Ron Artest to the MLE. Trade for Bosh, David West, Pau Gasol or maybe a young guy like LMA(who's basically untouchable by the way), without giving up Devin, Brook or CDR and if VC is involved bring back a suitable replacement, such as Mike Miller caliber player along with the big man. Then get one other vet through trade to play and effectively produce off the bench as a true, real deal 6xth man. All this will get you a contender and not fack the future.

Signing Ron Artest would be a great start. Hes still a premier defender and could attract some other players. If Boozer opts out hes another possibility to add some strength to this team. Nevermind this trading up to get Flake Griffin, its better to add some gritty vets that will push around the other team.

I didn't say Miller is a great defender I said he can be a good defender to a right coaching team. He has the tools that is needed to be a good lockdown defender. He is very long, average height, good upper body strength, descent speed.

Again, can someone tell me the weaknees of the team if we have these players? Why is not a contender?
