Would you still do it this offseason for McGradys 2010 contract? (assuming he has succesful surgery this offseason)

Considering the obvious health issues with TMac's knees, I'd be very surprised if they did the deal without further incentive.

Throw in a first rounder or two and / or Landry and then we're talking :D

To further clarify my original comment...

At a minimum I want HOU taking Najera as the needed filler (since TMac for Vince straight up does not work on the trade checker) and/or a 1st rounder coming back.

I never wanted to do that deal and I'll stay with that as my answer.

Yeah we're gonna be wretched with T-Mac and I'm not comfortable with it because this puts a TON of pressure on us in 2010. If we trade Vince, I can't see us trading with Houston unless it's a godfather trade we can't refuse.

I am all for it as long as we get some nice pieces in return.

If we dont get the #1 pick this year, I wouldnt mind Scola or Landry and a 1st round pick.

Prelude, what do you mean pressure on us in 2010? The organization needs to save money. I wouldnt care if we got sign anyone big FA in 2010. Get cheaper pieces that fit with Lopez and Harris.

Depending on what we trade, trading for TMac would open up a rather large chunk of cap space. Let's say for example, we trade Vince to Houston. Now I'd cry because Vince is so much better than his cousin, but we'd have a ton of space in 2010. A lot of pressure would be on us for a number or reasons:

1. Can we land a top tier free agent since we have a ton of space now?
2. Can we grossly overpaying any free agent?
3. Will these acquisitions make us contenders?

At the end of the day, having all the cap space in the world doesn't always translate into becoming legit. We have to hope that our management makes conscious and good decisions. If not, we could potentially have an Elton Brand situation on our hands. Granted I'm sure Elton will bounce back, but if it feels like we're going in the reverse directly or even just slowing down, it could doom us for the next few years.

I mentioned T-Mac in the other tread becuase I forgot there was a thread about him. I'd be open to him if we essentially gave up nothing. Simmons, Hassell, Najera, SWAT for T-Mac. They don't have a guy in a need position I think we could realistically acquire without giving up a guy we consider a buidling block so I'd just go after T-Mac by himself. Gives them some expirings and us a large one to consilidate, possibly allow us to split the MLE on some players to fill out the roster. I'm rambling, but hopefully you get the point.

I understand what you are saying, prelude.

As far as being legit, Management just dropped the ball by keeping Frank. As much as they want to preach about it is not about the money, it is.

Yeah VC is better then T-Mac but this trade has nothing to do with who is better. It has to do with how do we get out of this financial mess.

I really dont care of T-mac doesnt play one game. Let CDR play SG/SF all year. Draft a young SF, SG, or PF. Let the young guys play. Hopefully we win some games. Less then More. Get a better pick in the draft next year. Sign young guys for cheap to fill our needs. Save Money when the next wave of young FAs contracts are up. Hope that we are in Brooklyn by then.

VC being here doesnt change much for me. We were still out of the playoffs. We still got screwed with a bad lottery pick.

I would have MUCH rather done the other Houston deal that was being considered, Artest/Battier/Landry.

I really doubt that happens the way Artest and Battier are helping this team in the playoffs.

If Artest and Battier continue to annoy Kobe, this might be over in 6.

The Lakers will not lose another game. I guarantee it.

Why don't we just sign Ron for the MLE this offseason? Then trade up for Griffin? Have that starting 5 locked up through 2012.

Unless you get pick #2 (aka the rights to Rubio), the only way you get Griffin in a trade up is if Harris or Lopez is being dealt. Even then, its not a guarantee.

I agree with Devil.

Only way we can get Griffin is

1- we get the #1 pick
2- we get the #2 or 3 pick and trade that pick with our our a pick for next year or one of our young guys.

Anyway, if we get the #2 I am happy with keeping Rubio. Depending on how he plays

1- Rubio and Harris together
2- Dooling and Harris with Rubio coming off the bench
3- Trading Rubio or Harris for another player to fill a void.
