David West

Word is that the Hornets might be willing to deal D.West. We kind of have what they would be looking for: expiring contracts, young guys and draft picks. The only problem is that getting him now, would hurt a little our cap salary for 2010, although West has a pretty good contract for an all-star that averages 21ppg, 8rpg, and 1bpg(he earns like 10 m per season).
The other thing is that the hornets may want us to take some bad contracts back, like Peja, which is a player we need, but with our target being 2010, would kill our chances of signing one of those free agents. But, hey, what if guys like LBJ, Wade, and Amare start signing extensions during this summer?.....i think, then, we should definitely go after West.
Maybe a package of Yi, Hassel, Hayes(last 2 are expiring), Boone, and a 1st round(maybe Dallas one) would be considered.
If the 2010 free agents sign extensions, i would be willing to add Simmons, and get Peja. A lineup of Book Lopez, West,Peja,VC, and Harris would make us a very, very good team.
thoughts?

I would rather take back Chandler instead of Peja. I think we would have to add our lotto pick this year if we stay at 11, that's no problem though. I like the 2011 FA class better anyway, well after Lebron, Wade, Bosh and Joe Johnson. I'd take West over Amare about 12 times out of 10, so that's my opinion on that. Do you have a link for this rumor? Or are you just going off the fan chatter from here and the trade board? I definitely think he is available, but I think it will be a must that whatever team takes him takes Peja or Chandler for expirings as well.
Simmons
Yi
Hassel
11th pick
Sean Williams or Boone(NOLA choice)
For
West
Chandler
It's basically Yi, Hassel, Sean Williams or Josh Boone and the 11th pick for West and Simmons' expiring for Chandler

I would actually love West and Peja, if Peja's contract wasn't garbage. West is the kind of guy we need though.

Ive been saying this for weeks..however, its tough to gauge what NOH is really going to do...WEST would be perfect..i think if the Ntes were willing to take Peja as well (not remotely saying they should) it seems like they would be able to put together a package that NOH would like.

I have no problem getting west, but Thorn would have to do whatever he can to try to pry Paul away from them first. If they clearly dont want to deal Paul, then start the WEST negotiations.
I would take Peja. Chandler is good but where would he play. You are going to pay him to come off the bench. At least Peja is our starting SF.

if I had to pick between Chandler and Peja, I would take Chandler any day of the week...you would have a 3 big rotation of West, Lopez and Chandler. Chandler would come of the bench and could PF or C as needed. There are 98 minutes between the PF and C spot, so with 3 big man rotation, each plays about 30-35 minutes...And I think Chandler would help out the second unit defensively.
PG - Harris, Dooling
SG - CDR, Carter, Dooling
SF - Carter, Hayes
PF - West, Chandler, Anderson, Najera
C - Lopez, Chandler, Boone, Swat
A deal of Simmons, Yi, Hassel, and 2009 # 1 would work under the CBA. Doesnt look like a good deal for NOH on paper, but if they are looking to cut salary then at least they get that, plus young player with upside and a draft pick...Remeber, at the deadline they basically gave Chandler away, so assuming they take back Simmons for Chandler, they would be getting Yi and 2009 # 1 for West.

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=903635Hey guys, what do you think of my trade above? It's the typical package with the slight variation to include Utah so that the value is more balanced imo. In addition, in this trade, we don't stranglehold ourselves with either Chandler or Peja's contracts and replace them with Posey & Harpring.
Basically its:
Nets Trade: Bobby Simmons, Yi Jianlian, Trenton Hassell, NJN 2009 1st, Future GSW Protected 1st
Nets Receive: David West, James Posey, Matt Harpring

West/Anderson/Williams
Lopez/Boone

^^^ Yeah I'm 100% sure we could find a decent vet big man to sign as well to help tutor the young kids we got.
Anyone see the post on the front of the site about the team president saying they won't trade West or Paul. I honestly think they're pretty confident that they'll be able to move Chandler to save some cash. I would kill for David West, but I think that the hornets trading him or paul is a worst case scenario for them.

He is a useful expiring, he should have good value until the deadline.

"Smoke Screen"
They are just quieting all the rumors. They don't want to get low balled. They are going to pay luxury taxes. They cant afford it.

You do know this will be franchise suicide for NOH! But all things consider if they are salary dumping? Then West, Chandler, and Posey are players you lookk at. 2009 draft pick and GSW pick would key because it gives them a chance to find a replacement for west.

nah dont get chandler hes gonna cause problems if he has to come off the bench
brook lopez needs all the minutes he can get at center to grow, just get david west and a filler SF or SG in the deal while getting rid of simmons and a big like boone or anderson

lets be clear, getting West would be okay but it doesnt help us in two areas perimeter defense and scoring close to the basket.
if you look at the remaining teams in the playoffs some of them has the same characteristics of being able to score with high percentage field goal average. For this year playoffs these are the names of the best FG% players (within the top 10)
Nene, Howard, Yao, Gasol and Milsap. BTW our Brook lopez is tied at 11 with Garnett.
We need a grunt worker in the paint to help lopez. I'm sorry West doesnt fit the bill he is not even in the top 50.
