Moving Yi ?

http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

Coming off a season when he was demoted from the Nets' starting lineup to the bench because of his lack of production, Yi Jianlian might have played his final game in New Jersey. Team sources say the Nets are interested in trying to deal the 7-foot small forward they acquired from Milwaukee last summer for Richard Jefferson. "They're talking about moving him," said a source. New York Daily News

Yi's struggles to improve his defense, rebounding and passing under Lawrence Frank didn't sit well with GM Kiki Vandeweghe, who engineered the deal with the Bucks. Yi averaged 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 23 minutes per game, but was often privately criticized for looking only to shoot. Meanwhile, in an effort to further save money, one plan has the Nets cutting their assistant coaches' salaries from $1 million combined to only $500,000. New York Daily News

I need Netsforce to set the record straight on this.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

I'm not surprised. I love Yi, but it makes sense. I can tell you the Nets are not gonna sell low though. We likely won't settle or anything less than a 1st round pick or the expiring contract of a guy who would actually help the team for a year.

After reading this and the fact the Nets are rumored to be looking at a PG in the first round, I'm starting to think we are targeting a free agent of a trade to get our hands on a starter caliber 3 or 4.

Yi and Williams to GS - no defense and nonstop offense (Yi would flourish)

Belinelli and Azabuike to Jersey

How is that fair to the Warriors? Both Azubuike and Belinelli have outproduced Yi and Williams last season.

Because Yi is still young and is also a project.

Depends who you ask don't you think? I don't think you can play the project/potential card when a lot of people believe that he is older than he actually is listed at. In addition, Yi hasn't really shown much improvement (if any at all) from his rookie season and hasn't showed any signs that he will reach his potential.

Im all for trading him he was totally inconsistent this year..........
However his value is high and he can turn out to be a great player just look at Bargniani last year he had the bust label all over him and yet this year he turned out pretty damn well.
I want a good trade not just a giveaway like the Marcus Williams trade nothing short of a package to move towards Blake Griffin or a great PF/SF is acceptable for me.

I think the Wizards winning the lottery could be the best possible thing for this team.
I think we can definately get them to give us Blake Griffin for a Vince,11th pick and Yi package.

I don't see the point in trading him now... Unless we're going to ditch running this dribble drive motion offense every single play (please), my expectations for Yi were never high but I'd be willing to give him another year.

Sounds ironically similar to Bargnani, don't you think?

I don't think this package gets Griffin at all. I'm sure they would like Vince, but they are probably going to try and cut salary, not add a huge amount. They can surely get MUCH better value than this.
Also if Washington gets the #1 overall, I think it just increases the chances 10 fold that they keep the pick, and if not they would trade Griffin for one of the big time available PF's such as Bosh, Amare, or even someone who isn't truly on the block like a Dirk.

IMO, one of the best situations for us would be for Sacto to wind up with the #1 overall and they decide to keep Griffin. Then we could probably put together a very attractive package for Jason Thompson without overpaying too much.

I could honestly see GS and NJ agreeing to swap Yi and Brandon Wright as well. They have both been somewhat disappointing, frequently injured and both teams have similar players to them that have outplayed them. Namely we have Anderson, and GS has Anthony Randolph. We both add a new dynamic to our team and give both guys a very needed change of scenery. Add to this that GS was reportedly interested in Yi and I think it is possible for sure. I could see us swapping picks as well, wit us sweetening the pot with their future 1st round pick returned and maybe Sean Williams, if there is someone at the 7th overall, such as Harden, that we want and they have fallen in love with a guy like Flynn or Jennings, even Lawson, that winds up still available at 11.

I liked "Vicecarter4pre"`s idea a lot. I would be happy with that trade happening, especially with us getting the 7th pick.

Bargnani never had questions with regards to his actual age

I do see where you are coming from though. However Bargnani did work a lot on on his game and managed to get bigger last offseason. Will Yi do the same?

EDIT: Isn't Yi also participating in the FIBA Asian Championship tournament?

I also see that deal happening. Larry Harris is with the Warriors and then you have Nelson basically running the show in GS through Larry Riley.

Some of you guys obviously never watch the Warriors (and apparently not Yi, for that matter).

Brandan Wright has outshone Yi in a fairly obvious way. Throw on the fact that Wright actually is young enough to be considered a prospect still, and the fact that the Warriors and every other team knows that Yi has only regressed since entering the league, and there is no possible chance that you'd get Wright.

If you want to swap picks from 7 to 11 so we can get our first round pick back, that'd be ok. But under no possible circumstance would we want Yi for any sort of prospect of ours, unless you are interested in a protected 2011 2nd round pick or perhaps Jamal Crawford's contract.

I read in some thread (dont know which one) some Nets wnated to draft a pg. Is that because you think Harris isnt the answer @ pg?

We need PG depth so I can see why the Nets are thinking PG, but yeah, they're taking the best player available. I've read in a few places we're sweating James Johnson from Wake Forest too so you never know. Looks like Curry will be gone before us, Lawson may too depending on workouts. I don't really want these guys, but I'll just suck it up. All I know is that if we draft Flynn (a) I'll be annoyed and (b) I'll be annoyed if we took him at 11 because he can be had later in the draft.

I'm not comfortable drafting a depth player with our first with Frank at the helms. I still think he develops younger guys in the wrong way, aside from Brook, and it all starts with consistent minutes and letting players make mistakes.
