Sacto/NJ - Just a Little Crazy

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Sat Jun 6, 2009 11:00 am

NJ outgoing:
Devin Harris
Yi Jianlian
11th overall pick

Sacto outgoing:
Kevin Martin
4th overall pick
23rd overall pick

Draft Jordan Hill at 4
Draft either Patty Mills at 23 or trade up to the mid teens and snag Maynor or Flynn

Lineup:
PG Dooling/Mills or Maynor or Flynn
SG Kevin Martin/CDR
SF VC/Hayes/Anderson
PF Jordan Hill/Anderson/Swat
C Brook/Boone

Dooling starts for the time being, the kid we draft learns on the job as a 20mpg backup and if he pans out, eventually becomes the starter in a season or 2.

Just throwing something out there to spitball on...

i break this trade down into 2 pieces and both seem fair value wise...

1)harris and # 11 for kmart 2.0 and # 4

2) Yi for # 23

BUT....

I dont think this is the direction the Nets want to go in unless Rubio is there at # 4 and they really like him. That being said, if Rubio is there at # 4, I think Sacto scoops him up and calls it a day.

This is the best trade idea i've seen in a very long time on this board. I like it and it make sense if it was a GM possibility. Because it is martin in the deal i think you may have to give up CDR as well. Crazy enough i would prefer to keep YI and use anderson in the deal.

But anyway excellent idea!!!!!!!!!

You think that Rubio is that good of a prospect? The eventuality of him would be a passing SG. He does not posses the speed to be an elite PG in the NBA. Maybe internationaly!

With this deal, if our management was that aggressive then they already know that have to get one of the PG in this draft with Flynn or lawson at the top of the list.

The key here would be the simmons and Hassell stays as expiring. Which means that we are still in the running for 2010.

this trade is iffy from the Nets perspective anyway given that Harris plays Pg and you still want to add CDR. I think that is a dealbreaker

IF we move Harris and get the 4th pick, Rubio is the obvious pick. But regardless, given that you want to add CDR to the mix, we dont really need to discuss this anymore.

I honestly think I'd do the original deal if Rubio was on the board at 4. I'd miss Devin, but this is a deal you'd think Thorn and Kiki would drool over in terms of wanting to expand globally. The MAJOR problem though is Rubio would have to know that offer is on the table and make a promise he'd come over this year if that trade went down.

I'm not including CDR in this deal. They could have Swat though if they want. I'd give him up in the deal for a future heavily protected pick at this point. I want Hayes and CDR as our back up 2/3 guys.

I've actually heard a good amount of talk James Johnson is falling pretty hard and may be around at #23. Granted we're still over a month away and I'm 100% positive he'll get back into the late lottery after workouts, but I just have some wishful thinking if this actually went down.

I honestly don't think Harris is that much better than Kevin Martin... Also if Rubio were on the board the Kings would just keep the pick and draft him.

Depends on if he wants to play in Sacramento. I've been reading tons of reports that he is going to to stay in Spain if OKC or Memphis draft him. The only team in the lottery I heard he would 100% come play for right now is New York. I think if we traded up for him, he'd come play here but I'd want a verbal promise before signing off on draft night for this to happen.

I love Kevin Martin though. Elon is in the same conference as WCU so I saw him a ton in college. I was always front row (we have a small gym and our fans are posers and not a lot show up anyway) and was ripping him one game...then he drained a step back 3 in someone's eye and looked back and just smiled at me. It was AWESOME. He shoots like a girl but he is the SG we need.

I read that Sacramento is one of the teams on his short-list of preferred destinations, I don't know why but it is.

NO to Jordan Hill at 4. Is he better than Jason Thompson or even Marreese Speights? Not a chance.

Heck, I'm not even sure I'd want him at 11. He's a rich-man's Mikki Moore, a Chris Wilcox-type of journeyman, NOT the 10-year starter and franchise cornerstone type. If visions of Amar'e or even Shawn Kemp dance in your head about him, stop it.

I'm not keen on K-Mart and Carter working together, either. And unless Rubio fell to 4 (in which case, SAC wouldn't do the deal at all), I'm not all that interested in moving Devin.

I mildly agree with your take on Hill. That may be why I'm a little worried about him.

I don't really agree with Kmart and Carter together though. K-Mart is excellent playing off the ball. He is extremely capable of being a Rip Hamilton type player for us and is a very good shooter. When needed though, he is the ability to slash and get to the basket. Since vince is an above average passer for a 2/3, I think them playing together would gel a ton more than RJ and Vince ever did.

Why trade Harris for a SG of roughly the same caliber? Doesn't make sense to me.

Rubio will play for Sacto. It is a major media market. There is no way this trade would go down if Rubio is on the board.
Sacto fans on the trade board are so-so on this deal. They love Harris and agree the value is fair in this trade, but they want to pair Martin with Harris, not swap them and the ones that do want to swap them want it as basically a direct trade with added incentive.

I strongly disagree with the Mikki Moore and Wilcox comparisons of Jordan Hill and the journey men projections. Have you even watched him play? Yes he's a little raw, but this kid is gonna be a player, figure like a Nene or Andres Biedrins, but at the power forward spot. I honestly think people here jst read a few articles and form an opinion without watching a player, maybe seeing him once.
I watched A LOT of Pac 10, Big East, ACC and Big Ten ball this season and a decent amount last season. This kid can really play and it would be remarkable if he fell further than 8 and I doubt he goes that far.

He's a better prospect then Speights and Thompson.

Jason Thompson is the man. Don't knock him cause he is a small school guy. He also had a solid rookie season.

Feel free to knock Speights all you want though lol.

because a scoring PG like harris won't win you a championship

getting a allstar caliber SG, and then drafting a pass-first PG will.

and i dont want to hear about tony parker because we dont have a tim duncan or greg pop

The thing is though, I'm not as convinced that Kevin Martin is the kind of guy you build around either. I think he makes an excellent second option, but not first. In fact, I think I'd rather build around Devin (even with his flaws) than Martin, especially with the way the game is being called nowadays where throwing your body into someone is a foul.

Martin is obviously a better shooter than Devin, and is probably a better scorer even, but what else does he do? For his career, he's basically a 1 to 1 assist turnover ratio, which is really horrible for a shooting guard (especially if you plan on him being your go-to-guy...ugh). Devin, even playing PG, rebounds just as well as Martin, and has never been one who create turnovers either.

Now, if Vince was in his PRIME? Yeah, I'd consider this deal because I think Kevin and prime Vince would work well, and Prime Vince would have been able to carry this team with Martin as his #2 and Brook as his #3.

If we had another PG to replace Harris? Yes, I'd make the deal. But heck, we don't even have a THIRD PG. Why are we looking to trade our #1?!?

i think mratin is still a 1st option, + you don't need him to always score tahts why you got lopezdown low

and i still think carter has enough in the tank to be a 2nd option
