The talk is that Monta Ellis is unhappy with the direction the organization is heading in, and still holds a bit of grief over the way they held his contract status in limbo for months following his moped injury. For weeks we’ve heard that Ellis is no longer interested in playing for Golden State, and apparently it had reached a point where it was “close to popping off” in the words of one NBA executive—meaning going to the media and publicly demanding a trade.

What I'm interested in is, if we could land Ellis, what would a fair offer be?

I honestly think that is fair. They get 2 solid guys in the lottery this year, and their pick back. Ellis can play the 2 for us, move to the point at times. A 3 headed monster of Harris/Ellis/Dooling handling the point would be great. Ellis would take pressure off Vince, we'd have a bunch of above average passers on our team so as long as our young bigs can catch, it could be easy buckets down low. This would also make it easier for me to try to shop Vince for an expiring to open the space back up in 2010 to go after Bosh or Amare or Lebron or etc if possible. If not, we'd have enough cap space to land at least a 2nd tier SF or PF.

dont think that package would sit well with GS.

Whatever you do... DO NOT post any trade porposals on the G-State board, with the way a select few homers overvalue the likes of Crawford and Maggette you're bound to start a riot.

Also for the record I'm not quite sure how a backcourt of Ellis and Harris would work... They'd be the quickest duo in the league but neither one of them is an elite player / both need the ball in their hands on offense to be effective.

I guess Ellis is better without the ball though...

I love Ellis (though I'll admit I haven't seen his game post-ATV accident), but I don't know know about the fit of a Harris/Ellis backcourt.

Regardless of fit issues, this deal is pretty poor for Golden State. Wright is hardly a throw-in at this point.

I don't know if there are BYC issues, but based on the various rumors, I'd say a deal centered around Ellis for Josh Smith makes sense for both sides.

Ellis is almost certainly available. It is my opinion that he may have asked for a trade. Management went to visit him and talk about the situation. We will not know until later if they were successful.

I have a better question? Who is better Devin or Monta? What if we give up Devin and keep the pick the 11th pick and add Boone? Keep Simmons to save the salary cap space for 2010. Hope for Flynn to drop to us at the 11th spot.

I dont know how it will work with the salary cap.

Mainly agree BTW, although Brook and another big time shotblocker/defender helps negate some of that, especially if one of the two that make up the undersized backcourt is a lockdown defender or close to it and the other is a gambler/ballhawk. Sadly, Ellis is nowhere near either of those things and his serious lack of an outside shot makes him an absolutley horrid fit next to Harris, even more so when dumping the ball in the post to Brook.

IMO Devin is hands down the better player and it isn't even close. A team with Ellis in the starting lineup is likely to be very unsuccesful unless they have a solid defender, elite playmaking, above average defender, very effective off the ball shooting guard and a sick glue guy like Trever Ariza, AK47, Tay Prince, etc, at the wing and a big time post player, a very good shotblocker and defender at the other frontcourt spot and a lot of shooters.
Ellis is absolutley not the type of player you build around, but the type of player you add to a very specific situation to take that team over the top. He would be a stud on a team like San An or Houston as examples, and could possibly be the type of piece that put them over the top, although that would be if they could add him to their current team without giving up one of their major components.
That's a lot to ask.

IF, these rumors are true, it's just laugh out loud funny and ironic how much a player like Monta is a little self centered diva.
Again, IF tese rumors are true, this guy has an amazing amount of gall and nerve.
It is reported he doesn't want to stay there if they draft a PG and he is upset about the way they handled his contract situation after the accident.

This is a guy who flatout violated the terms of his contract by even riding a moped, crashed it and seriously damaged his ankle, requiring surgery and likely effecting it and his abilities to be at 100% of his actual abilities for the duration of his contract and theremainder of his career and he has the audacity to complain, and then demand a trade!
He's lucky they didn't completely void his contract and cut his sorry ass.
He also is no sort of point guard and had his most success with Baron playing next to him, so I don't see his beef.

The nerve to ask for a trade. He should be kissing the owners ass with lip gloss after the stunt he pulled, just for not voiding the deal.
I mean on top of the fact he did what he did, he then lied and tried to cover the accident up, saying he injured the ankle in a pickup game, which he shouldn't have been playing either, anyway.
This is why I almost never feel bad for athletes no matter their situation, unless it relates to their health. Just a bunch of little spoiled rich kids that cry like babies when things aren't going their way. Most of these guys literally deserve to be beaten into a pulp by professional hockey and football players and then kicked in the chest by UFC fighters while they lay on the ground.
Then they should allow for fans of their team's to spit on them.

Agreed, but its not so much just about size as it is their ability to defend the SGs in the league.

Warriors wont trade a 100% healthy and 100% of his old self before injury for hot trash. Btw, that dumb rumor about monta being unhappy was proven false by monta himself and the writer who first wrote about this is one of the worst writers ever.
