Moron or Genius? My friend's comments about the Knicks...

Post#1 » by mattlanta » Mon Jun 22, 2009 11:44 pm

Is he a genius or a moron?

Some of his comments regarding the Knicks include...

About the Knicks and Rubio...
-"The Knicks don't need Rubio."
-"In New York, you need stars polarizing stars. That's why Rubio wouldn't fit."
-"Rubio is not a star." (He told me to go up to a random NY fan and ask who Rubio is, and he says most of them will say they don't know. = This is another reason, he claims, why NY shouldn't draft Rubio.)
-After I told him that I'd post his stupid comments somewhere, he tries to rebuke some of his comments by saying... "thats kinda specualtion becuz rubio is huge where he is and steph is huge here but no one knos vice versa u feel me?" WRONG. Rubio is a star.

He doesn't seem to understand that the ABA is better than any league in America (other than the NBA). This includes Division 1 schools. He doesn't understand that playing with stars in the Olympics (Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Jason Kidd) qualifies Rubio as a 'star' in America.

About Danilo Gallinari...
-"Danilo Gallinari was a terrible pick. He was unproductive, and New York must not be happy with him."
-"In New York, it's a popularity contest."

Another random idiotic (or genius?) comments by him...
-"Brandon Jennings is better than Rubio."
-"Ricky Rubio is very overrated."
-"Michael Beasley is better than Blake Griffin."
-"lmao your team sucks, my team (He's a Nets fan) is going to be better than yours in two years!" (I'm a Hawks fan, BTW)

So anyways... do you RealGM'ers believe my friend is a moron or a genius?

Yeah, sorry forgot to add 'Off-topic'.

I posted this at the Knicks forum too and he said they were just saying that because they were Knicks fans. He'll probably want Nets fans' opinions also.

They might not need Rubio SPECIFICALLY...but they do need a good PG who can play whether it's the 1st quarter or the last minutes of a four quarter without being a mismatch.

-"In New York, you need stars polarizing stars. That's why Rubio wouldn't fit."

When's the last time the Knicks had a star that attracted other stars? And don't even say Ewing. The guys that NY loved are guys who worked hard and busted their butts on the court. Guys like Oak, Starks, LJ.

-"Rubio is not a star." (He told me to go up to a random NY fan and ask who Rubio is, and he says most of them will say they don't know. = This is another reason, he claims, why NY shouldn't draft Rubio.)

He's right. Rubio is not a star. Aside from hardcore basketball fans, most would have no idea who Rubio is. But at the same time, aside from Blake Griffin, Tyler Hansbrough and the UNC guys, and maybe a handful of other players in college + local college players, most hoops fans probably wouldn't be able to give you information if you asked them about those players.

-After I told him that I'd post his stupid comments somewhere, he tries to rebuke some of his comments by saying... "thats kinda specualtion becuz rubio is huge where he is and steph is huge here but no one knos vice versa u feel me?" WRONG. Rubio is a star.

Rubio is not a star. Just like Rudy Fernandez was not a star during his draft, and his hype was probably equal, if not more than Rubio's heading into the draft.

Patty Mills SHREDDED US Team's defense, and Kobe (yes THAT Kobe) told the coaches not to put him on Mills because he was too fast for him. Is he a star?? Marco Belinelli went NUTS on the US team in 2004 (much much better than Rubio's showing against the US). Was he a star heading into the draft?!?

About Danilo Gallinari...
-"Danilo Gallinari was a terrible pick. He was unproductive, and New York must not be happy with him."
-"In New York, it's a popularity contest."

Gallinari certainly looks like a terrible pick. Whether it was due to injuries or not, we won't know till he gets healthy. But for now the pick certainly looks bad.

Another random idiotic (or genius?) comments by him...
-"Brandon Jennings is better than Rubio."
Disagree.
-"Ricky Rubio is very overrated."
He is very overrated.

-"Michael Beasley is better than Blake Griffin."
Possibly, but it's a toss up.

-"lmao your team sucks, my team (He's a Nets fan) is going to be better than yours in two years!" (I'm a Hawks fan, BTW)
He's most likely right. Joe Johnson will be 30-31 years old in 2 years (oh and I think his contract expires that year also). Bibby will most likely be gone by then (or has already declined), Josh Smith will still be Josh Smith, providing he's still there, leaving Al Horford as your main bright young spot. Meanwhile, the Nets will have a Harris that is entering his prime, a Lopez that should be on the cusp of All-Star status, and the Nets have done a much better job of stock piling draft picks than the Hawks.

So anyways... do you RealGM'ers believe my friend is a moron or a genius?
Somewhere in between, assuming he actually thought things through like I did in my response rather than just spewing out random hype/hate.

If Beasley is a toss up with Griffin, I suggest the Clips trade that pick faster then you can say Michael Olowokandi.

No one can say Rubio is VERY overrated until you see the guy play NBA ball. None of you guys know anything about anybody in the Euroleague anyways because if you guys do, you guys wouldn't say Rubio is overrated. Sure, Marco was famous there and so was Rudy and their fame wasn't anywhere near when they first got here and they ended up not even making it to the lottery. So now, why is Rubio all of a sudden a top 5 pick? I believe that's what's driving fans crazy and that's why the criticism seems piling up as we get closer to the draft.

See, Marco and Rudy were not as young as Rubio when they entered the NBA. Rubio is already the top PG in their league and he is being treated as a once in a decade guard, a player that rarely comes around. The guy is great and very unselfish. But what attracts most teams and the willingness to pay a lot of money is because of his Vision. He is the real deal.

I agree with you that a lot of people are blindly saying he is overrated.
The thing I want to ask you though, is have you honestly seen him play much yourself outside of youtube highlights and 2 or 3 games in the Olympics?
