Spurs tried to Pull a Thorn on Thorn

Tuesday’s deal came to fruition only after talks with New Jersey regarding one of Jefferson’s former Nets teammates — eight-time All-Star Vince Carter — came to a halt.

According to an Eastern Conference executive, Bowen, Oberto, Thomas and Roger Mason Jr. had been offered to the Nets in exchange for Carter and the Nets’ first-round pick in Thursday’s draft. The Spurs balked when the Nets asked for additional considerations, then turned their focus to Jefferson.

To add VC and 11th pick for the pile of HOT TRASH they offered the Bucks plus Mason is insulting. VC alone should have gotten that and more. Are they trying to say that Mason is worth the 11th pick and VC is only worth that HOT TRASH?

LOL. The Spurs must have forgotten who they are dealing with. This isnt Cuban or the Raptors. Definitely not the Bucks.

Good to see Thorn is clearly not looking for a salary dump. The kids in the trade forum are DRIVING ME CRAZY with the straight up salary dumps. If I have to see another Ray Allen for Vince scenario, I'm gonna go nuts. Granted, at least Allen is productive and is an expiring, but damn teams would average 150ppg against us.

You see I wouldn't mind that deal at all. Ray allen is a spot up shooter at this point and is a better fit alongside Harris than vince is. If we want him back we can just resign him for half of what he's about to make this year and use the rest to sign a quality PF in 2010.

While I agree with that, these 2 can't carry a team. Now, if RJ was still on the Nets or we landed a legit 4 in a package of Simmons/Najera/Young Guys or Picks...then I totally wouldn't mind this deal. Until we make a move like that, I think it's a step backwards for us. We don't need that kind of cap space as of this moment and we're a lotto team anyway and with the assets we have (picks/young guys) we can move up in the 2010 draft if we wanted to. As of this moment, moving Vince for a straight up salary dump, even if it's for a decent player, is pointless in my eyes.

I actually would love that tbqh lol
Ray Ray would be fantastic here he'll fit very well next to Devin Harris and his deal is really short so that helps our 2010 plans.

The trades that do drive me made are the Vince for "this expiring contract" or "this other trash".

My main concern, although Ray would be productive with us, is that I don't think we will be able to land 1 max player and a very good tier 2 guy, so we don't need THAT much cap space. Also, if instead of that route, we extend Ray Allen and try to add a max contract guy next summer, I still feel Vince is a more attractive teammate than Ray. I would gladly welcome this trade if we somehow landed Boozer, Amare or Bosh this offseason and signed them to an extension, but I really don't think as of this exact moment a Vince for Ray Allen deal is the right move. I feel that would be a move based on the result of another move we make. Since we haven't made that first move, I'm not interested at this point.
