The future is bright!

Post#1 » by Xam279 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 3:55 am

I've seen mixed reviews for our draft day moves but I really like the direction of the team. I'm disappointed we didn't get more for Carter and I wasn't happy that we gave up Anderson but when you take a closer look at the team we're in a position to be good for a long time.

First off look at how the team is constructed. Devin Harris excellent defender, Lee good young defender, Terence Williams (possibly) the best defender in the draft, Yi is a good shot blocker and Lopez is Huge, takes up space in the lane and block shots. Also don't under estimate Lee. How many Sg do u know that can shoot the 3 well, are athletic and plays good D hmm... Kobe, Pietrus, Mayo, and Lee!

I think if you added Lebron to what we have now in 2010 this would be championship team and if he doesn't sign we would still be championship caliber in two or 3 years. Look at the skills of each position Yi and Lee can shoot and Lopez and Harris have good mid range games. Harris and Lee are slashes and Lopez has a good low post game already. The floor spacing should be excellent with or without Lebron.

The last thing i wanted to add is what are our weaknesses now? We need another star and another power forward. We have two (possibly 3 depending on golden state) first round draft picks for 2010. It's very early but look at all the mock drafts for 2010. Next year will be flooded with quality forwards. Lets say we miss out on Lebron and sign Bosh or Amare, that would make us championship contenders. We don't suck we're just young.

This team is actually set up similar to Portland, but with our 2 best players at PG and C, where as their 2 best prospects are at SG and PF.
I still hate the fact we sent out Anderson, I feel we should have got back Lee for Vince without sending out Mr. Anderson, but truthfully, even though it was only a couple days ago, bitching about it over and over is only going to make us(I mean me :( ) more bitter, so I'll have to take it for what it's worth and just be optimistic towards the future we have, which looks pretty damn bright.

What I'm most excited about is that all the players are going to be playing at the same pace now, what I mean is that Vince was primarily a half-court player but Devin Harris, Terrence Williams, Courtney lee, CDR, Keyon Dooling, Sean Williams, these guys thrive in the open court... Even guys like Lopez and Yi should benefit from a more up-tempo offense as they're generally quicker than the guys that are guarding them.

Devin Harris needs to go.
Guy thinks he's Michael Jordan.
He's a ball hog. He needs to realize he is a point guard.
What's the freakin use, when he scores 30 and the Nets end up losing?

He doesn't know how to get his teammates involved.
He plays for his stat sheet.

 Watch a nets game and then criticize Harris.

I love the fact that people criticize his game because he was our leading scorer last year. Would you rather him take 4-5 shots less per game and give them to Yi and Simmons.. Really??

I didn't think so.

Most of the games we won were because Harris and VC would team up and give us 60. Harris carried us for a huge stretch of the season and if he had played any differently we would have won even less games.

the offense was set up for Harris to dominate. I expect his ppg to drop to 17/18 this year with about 8 assists per game and much better D.

GSW pick is actually 2011 pick. Also, assuming GSW get Amare, it looks like they will make the playoffs and actually turn into a 1st round pick whihc was unexpected.

The Nets have the Mavericks 1st round pick in 2010 with no string attached and their own ist round pick. The 2011 ist round pick may not come for a few years as the Warriors appear to be locked in the lottery. If it is not settled bt 2013 the Nets could end up with 2 2nd round picks from GS in 2013 and 2015. The Nets are in great shape after this year. Imagine, it is possible the Nets can get the ist pick in the 2010 draft and it would be worth it. Money will be all over the place for James, Bosh, Amare and Wade and the Nets will be players.

First of all on that post about Harris and him needing to go.......ummm no sir, Harris is not only our best player but calling him a ball hog is just downright mad just look at his stats, he average nearly 7 assits per game (redicolously high for a shoot first PG and a guy that the offense is built around).

Honestly now that a few days have passed and my feelings towards the VC trade aside this team is building towards something special in the near future, we have all the right pieces.

Devin Harris/Dooling
Lee/CDR
TWIll
Yi/SWill
Lopez

Add to that a top 5 pick in a great 2010 draft (Jhon Wall please?), a Dallas pick which could be great and more cap space than a man can ask for (30m) and we have all the building blocks for a contender for many years.
The only thing holding us back is the Izod center, that's why I really hope they move to the prudential center at least until we get Brooklyn moving.

All that considered though this season is gonna be hard very hard to watch.....

I'd rather watch a young team suck than a mediocre veteran team. At least in situations like this you can watch losses and take positives out of it. If all goes well, this should be the last bad season for a long, long time. Even if our pick doesn't fall top-5, next year's draft is loaded. Another lotto pick + the Mavs pick + the current core + FA money could be extremely good. Granted, there is a shot no one comes here in FA. That's why I agree with the Brooklyn move. I think it'd be completely huge for the franchise and it better be well on its way by the time next year rolls around. We need to use it in negotiations with free agents.

Actually, it's not fully lotto protected.
The 1st year(2011) it's fully lotto protected.
2012 and it's top 12 protected.
2013 it's top 11 protected, and if it's a better pick we get their 2nd round pick and another 2nd round pick in 2014.

Did you really just say that Yi is a good shot blocker?

Haha...talk like that is encouraged by me...well as long as it doesn't get out of hand or else jerseyjac would have my throat.

I don't see all the bad talk for Lawrence Frank. He is after all the longest tenured head coach of the East. That one hurt my soul...

My username on there is pure awesome, it's a shame you're not aloud to have an opinion over there, once in a while I like to frequent other Nets' boards.
What, I said once in a while Rich, don't get mad. 8-)
Or wait, get mad. If you don't get mad that means you don't want me here. :(
Wait, if you, oh noez, cannot compute, cannot compute...

I have a feeling that he will start Jarvis over Courtney.
But if we fire Frank, what are the other options again?
