Why don't we go get Tyson Chandler?

Say what you want about him but he's one of the most economical scorers in the league when he's healthy (62% FG in 06-07 and 07-08) and he's only got two years left on his deal.

Simmons (expiring) for Chandler matches up salary-wise, could Simmons plus a 1st rounder or Simmons plus Boone/Williams be enough to get it done?

EDIT: fixed

Why don't we? Because he's not as good as Brook is right now, let alone in two years. Plus...he's expensive.

As expensive as Trenton Hassell.

I always liked him...but why would we want to give up all our cap room for next summer to give 12 mil a year to a role playing big considering how current team? Wouldnt you prefer to go shoping for a go to stud?

What? Hassell makes 4.3 million and he's off the books next summer. Chandler makes 12 million and he has a player option for 10/11, in which I doubt he doesn't exercise due to his injury problems.

He's going to be injured for the rest of his career.

NO traded him to OKC for peanuts. OKC found out the peanuts were more useful than Chandler and got them back. Chandler back to NO......................Chandler back on the trading block.

We'd only be giving up about half of our cap space, no?

Do you really think that we're going to reel in TWO max-level players next offseason? Shouldn't we try to compete this season instead?

We need another SG. I would go after Rashad McCants(unrestricted) sign him for 3year 10mil.

McCants is really talented....He just needs to wake up. McCants has potential to be a reliable 6 man.......Someone like Ben Gorden. Maybe he'll turn it around in his 4th year in the NBA.

No, but more importantly, even if we did thrust ourselves into a win-now mode, Chandler would not help that cause.

Even if we discard the fact that Chandler needs a pure PG like Paul to make him as efficient a "scorer" as he is, he is still a subpar man defender and very injury-prone. OKC wouldn't give expirings for him, and Shinn has been beating down all 28 other GMs' doors tryign to move him. NO ONE wants to be caught holding the proverbial Old Maid that is Tyson Chandler, once his injury red flags take him out for good.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

Yeah, lol. Worst possible moment for the Nets to go after Chandler.

I think we're fine at the 2 guard personally. Dooling, Lee, Twill, CDR, Hayes and even Hassell (even though I cringe saying that) can all play the 2 spot. Half of those guys can play the 3 spot as well. The one thing we don't have on this team is a physical big man. We have ok big men, but none that could guard a guy like shaq or dwight or bosh or anything. I'd rather get a physical guy who can give some minutes at the 4 so our guys don't get manhandled and also so we won't have to put Brook on every above average big man we play.

With that said though, Tyson Chandler is not our guy. I'm not sacrificing our cap space for him. If we could land a guy like that who is an expiring, then sure whatever do it.
