Me personally, I'm hoping we bring Kerry Kittles on full time. I know we he's on the company payroll and shows up to Nets functions. He usually is a shooting/defense coach in the summer league or preseason. I think having him as an every day assistant would do wonders for CDR and Courtney.

As far as a big man coach, I have no clue who I'd go after.

We should bring in KVH to spar with Yi.

On a side note Lawerence Frank should not get fired if the Nets tank this year.

3) Nets can go after an assist Head Coach that wants the experience for less money


The only issue here is that if they want to attract the SUPER FA in 2010 they have to have a good coach.

I wonder how much Mark Jackson makes commentating games. Probably more than we'd offer him, but it'd rock to give him an assistant head coach job. He could probably help Devin a ton. I still like the idea of Bringing Kittles on. How bout Rick Smits for big man coach lol? I'd love life seeing him on the bench.

I'm at least willing to listen to what he has to say if he wants to only be an assistant coach. We're talking about one of the best passers in nba history. The guy has some knowledge and if he's really "commited to coaching," then I think he'd be open to coming on as an assistant. I am willing to try any former PG coaching prospect. They tend to see the game differently. I am not saying they are better then no former PG coaches.

Jackson would be cool, but I would like Elie. Hard nose type coach with 3 rings. I would bring him in as lead assistant.

The cool thing about Elie is he was called "the Jedi' playing on the playgrounds in NY. Maybe he can use some Jedi mind tricks on Frank.

If the guy doesn't have any coaching experience I want him nowhere near this team. I'm looking at you Mark Jackson.

There are a lot of bad coaches out there with years of experience. I'm looking at you Stan Van Gundy. My mother could have taken that team to the finals. He makes Opie look like an average NBA coach. In his defense, at least Stan Van Gundy "tries" to coach...unlike Mike Brown. His lack of adjustments to this day still amazes me.

I don't see how that changes the fact that someone who has NEVER COACHED before AT ANY LEVEL should NOT be hired to coach a NBA team.

You have the choice between 2 pilots to pilot your brand new Boeing 777.

Are you going to choose:

- Pilot #1 - He has flown a Boeing 747 and Boeing 757 multiple times in the past.
- Pilot #2 - He has watched others fly crop dusters numerous times; and has also flown a crop duster himself... once.

If you have an unproven assistant coach in mind who has some years of being assistant / a head coach at a lower level, by all means recommend him but hiring a guy who has never coached before just because he had a good career is a recipe for disaster.

First, my original argument was about Mark Jackson being an assistant coach so I'm basing my critique off my original argument.

I think this is personally a enormously terrible example in relationship to your argument because, if we're talking about Mark Jackson, there would be 3 pilots:

Pilot #1: He has flown a Boeing 747 and Boeing 757 multiple times and teaches at a flight academy to help inexperienced pilots gain knowledge (an experienced coach)
Pilot #2: He has flown a Boeing 747 and Boeing 757 with precision for a number of years at an elite level, however, has very little to no teaching experience but thinks he can handle the job
Pilot #3: He has watched others fly crop dusters numerous times; and has also flown a crop duster himself... once...this is your Opie

Stan Van Gundy, Lawrence Frank, Mike Brown fall under pilot #3. They either had little or no experience playing basketball, but was an assistant for a while and got lucky and landed a job.

Pilot #1: this doesn't mean "he's good," (it's debatable with some) but he has the tools to teach others in some capacity. It's just that they have experience. Avery Johnson, Phil Jackson, Jerry Sloan, Rudy T fall into this category. Isiah Thomas all also falls into this category...is he a good coach, hell no.

Pilot #2 is where Avery Johnson was prior to getting his gig in Dallas. It can be argued whether he's a good coach or not, but a lot more coaches than not fall into Pilot 2 or 3.

Your argument is too broad to lump coaches into simply two categories. Hell one can argue my 3 categories is still too broad. Nonetheless, we're talking about an assistant coaching position and one of the most prolific passers in NBA history for an ASSISTANT COACHING JOB. It's completely illogical to discredit him just because he never had any coaching experience.

You're basically saying the Patrick Ewing did not deserve his assistant coaching job in Orlando because he never had any prior experience before in coaching regardless of his on court accomplishments. That's the most ignorant accusation I've heard in a long time...especially when we're talking about an damn assistant coaching job for team that needs a coach to remind Devin Harris how to be a complete point guard.

Wasn't Ewing an assistant for the Rockets before he came to Orlando.Anyway i would take MarkJack/Ewing on this staff and get rid of Frank/Hill any day of the week.
