Rumor: Glen Davis to NJ in a S&T done deal?

Post#1 » by Da_Kidd » Mon Jul 27, 2009 2:58 am

Been hearing in a lot of circles that Big Baby coming to NJ is a done deal through a sign and trade possibly for Najera.

Any substance to this rumor?

Is it true that Najera has 3 years and 9 million left on his deal? I saw one place that said the last 2 were unguaranteed, but some sites had them guaranteed...do you guys know?

I'm pretty sure they're guaranteed.. He only makes 2+ mil yet he's our worst contract..

I'd be all for the trade if it was najera + heavily protected 1st for Glen Davis..

Considering we'd be paying Davis something like 5.5 - 6 mil a year, we'd be basically adding him for 4 mil and that wouldn't disrupt our 2010 plans..

Yi has a way bigger Value than Big Baby. Yi is a money maker and have a bigger potential even though Big Baby is kind of proven. Also Thorn is definitely doing some threats against the Celtics on signing him an offer sheet. To force a weak sign and trade

We defiinitely get the better end of the deal.

Najera, SWAT, Boone, and Dooling are definitely the suspects in this trade. Najera will be a great bench player for them and his contract is not horrible for the Celtics since they do not have any plans for the 2010 FA. SWAT is the other guy. Just because of his high potential and he lives in Boston. Boone is the Next guy. Low Risk and good Back up. And Finally Dooling. They need a back up PG and Dooling can play.

I like the baby but not if his contract goes much over 4 mil for any year.

The last 2 years are guaranteed. Luckily, the contract is pretty small in those years. I'm just curious to see a) if this goes down actually and b) what kind of contract Baby gets so we can see the damage it does to our cap this coming summer. I think he's overrated due to playing with 3 hall of famers, but I also don't deny the kid is talented. I'll support him if this happens.

I cannot see us giving up 2 solid vets that were coaching our youngins. It's gonna be Najera/Sean Williams. I think Ainge will take a change on him because he knows KG can scare the crap out of him.

If Thorn honestly adds that fat **** to this team im jumpin ship. You have no idea how much I hate that guy. If he ever puts on a Nets uniform im movin to philly! Id rather have Arvedys Sabonis come out of retirement and play for us than that guy. Im sorry, I cant support a team that has that fat cry baby on it.

Yeah I just heard they want Yi but as much as I like Big Baby (BB) I dont' want to do that. I want to give Yi another shot this year. This is it though one last year to prove yourself. As of now Yi will have a large role on this team in terms of scoring and playmaking so this is his year to shine it's now or never. As for Najara/SWAT for BB please pull that off Thorn. SWAT still has major potential but we can control him, but like Prelude said KG can and will. Najara has a crappy contract and we don't need him except as a player coach really. Thats where we'll miss him the most with all these young guys. Adding BB for those two would add another young peice to our rebuilding core, which I like. Hopefully somewhere around 4 @ 18.5 mil or something around that. Pull the trigger.

This leaves the question now if that deal does happen without Yi included, who is the starting PF.

Yi or Big Baby

Lets break it down:
Harris
Lee
CDR/Simmons
Yi/BB
Lopez

Team Weaknesses:
Shooting/Rebounding

Yi - better shooter, better in the open court, knows the system better
BB - better defensively, better rebounder, more intensity

Each guy fills one need on the floor and in the beginning of the year i give the nod to Yi, on a short leash. No matter who starts though i think they get equal minutes and the man with the hot hand plays down the stretch.

I am 100% positive they won't get Yi. Thorn and Ratner are not stupid. Now I do talk trash about Baby, but I do like him. I talk trash because people make him out to be better than he is. Hell Josh Boone could probably look pretty damn good playing next to 3 hall of famers and a decent young PG. I think Baby can be a solid 1st big man off the bench on a lot of teams, but I'm NEVER giving up Yi for a guy like him.

Like I said, and you agreed with me, KG has the ability to kick Sean's @$$ into gear. Yeah I don't want to see him reach his potential with a team in our division, but our roster and coaching staff isn't built with the mentors he needs. Boston has that structure and I'll wish sean the best.

Only thing I don't agree with you is the size of this kids contract lol. I am ok with Baby if we can get a 2-1 done but I don't want to give him 4.6 mill a year. Maybe if he sheds 30lbs before the season I'll reconsider.

If we give away a Najera/Swat combo, this is a good trade seeing how that would mean getting big baby for virtually nothing. Najera and Swat were non factors last year and I guess I'm one of the very few on this Nets forum that like Big baby.

I really doubt they trade Yi for Big Baby.

Thorn isnt stupid. Yi is a better player. Only things Big Baby has over Yi are size around the waist and confidence.

Najera and Swat for Big Baby is ok with me. Big Baby and Boston Pick for Yi could be semi acceptable.

I would initially cry for like a week over that deal, but in theory it's fair and reasonable in my book (Celtic fans will probably disagree). The only way I'd ever say this was a good move (since this will naturally be a late first round pick) is if we signed a legit FA and then also pawned some of the pics off to another team in a S&T for another legit player next summer. As long as we're not giving up our top 3 pick next draft, do what it takes, but I still don't like the idea of moving Yi yet.

I have a feeling that something like Big Baby + Scalabrine + Pruitt for SWAT/Dooling/Najera could materialize very soon.

Then you just don't exercise Pruitt's option on August 1, and Scalabrine is an expriring contract. That trade would really make sense for you.
