Goals for the Season

Post#1 » by Rockice_8 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:24 pm

I just figured we needed a new topic to discuss so lets hear everyones thoughts on what you would like the Nets to accomplish this year. It can be team goals or individual player goals.

Harris - I would like to see him defend better and up his assists to around 8 per game even if it is at the expense of a few less points per game. He needs to become our floor general.

Lopez - Needs to work on his post moves / footwork. Also I would like to see him with less games with like 5 rebounds (that is unacceptable for him). I'm putting a lot of pressure on him because he is a huge key to our future. He needs to become a guy we can dump the ball to when we a strruggling to score and draw a double team or get an easy basket.

I won't even start on Yi we all know what he can do we've seen flashes of it. CONSISTENCY.

Lee - He was the guy we wanted in the Carter trade so he needs to lock up the SG spot. He doesn't do one thing great but he does everything well. Hit open shots, defend, and play unselfish.

I don't have the time to go into everyone maybe I'll continue my evaluations later

TEAM GOAL:
DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. We have the size, speed, and individual talent to defend well we just need to work together. I would love to see theis team become a solid defesive team. What I don't want is to see Harris going one on 5. Ball movement will be key because we are probably going to struggle to score.

The fact of the matter is we are going to be a bad team. That doesn't mean we are bad it's just that we are very young and inexperienced. We have a soild foundation in place and next year is about getting these guys experience and comfortable in their roles. Next years draft will be key for us and our future. I just want to see effort every night and to be competitive in every game.

Brook Lopez : 15-17 ppg , 9 rebounds with more consisent play (remember that 10/10 is hard to do, i think only 3-5 guys did it last year)

Yi: 13 points, 7-8 rebounds (with alot more consistency and avoid injuries when he starts rolling. Same thing happened in bucks and nets. He gotta play aggressive and be more cerebral with his skills)

Courtney Lee : 10-13 ppg, (he need to step it up in every stat and also pass the ball better while hitting those shots)

Devin Harris: 20 ppg , 7-8 apg, (be more floor general and also avoid having too bad games)

This team could be really good if they all played well. If anynthing they are almost like Portland 2-3 years ago without Roy. Alot of potential that can flourish.

Ron ron on how commited he is to the team.

If we don't make the playoffs, which we won't, the goal is to be a very tough out that still loses a lot of close games and winds up with a top 7 pick and then wins one of the top 3 picks, therefore drafting Greg Monroe or Evan Turner.

Now, I don't want to totally recant my opinion, but if Brook is a straight beast and Harris continues to tear the league to shreds minus injuries and one of T Will(he needs a new nickname, that's too friggin' generic and lame), Buckets or Lee turns out above expectations, Yi is simple effective and efficient, then we honestly have the veteran role players to make a run at the 8th spot with maybe 42 or 43 wins. I mean I keep reading what SIC is beating into my head and it is starting to make more sense.
I mean look at the Spurs after Duncan the first few years. Obviously they are a hugely better overall team even back then, because Duncan was on another level completely and so was David Robinson, but the team is similar. Two stars, Sean Elliot as the standout wing and a bunch of gritty vets mixed with some up an coming youth. The difference between them and us is they were instantly contenders in Duncan's second year, where maybe, just maybe, we are instantly a playoff team, because of the difference in the players levels and abilities.

Alright, I'll stop with the optimism now. :D

Believe me, my optomism is not that strong, I am predicting 29 wins.

^^ Yeah we'll have a better record by a game and then draft a top 5 pick. It's a win win. And they'll just continue to suck.

My goal for this team this year is to finally see Frank get his walking papers.

Anyone see John Hollinger trash us yet again in his latest ESPN Chat. I never hated a journalist (he's not even a journalist. He's a pompus F#*$tard) more than John Hollinger. I used to send him hate mail once a month for like 2 years back in the day. I used to send his editor letters asking to take him off as the Nets beat writer. Never got a response from anyone. Spineless bastards. Yet Chad Ford and Bill Simmons both have responded to an e-mail or two of mine over the years. Screw John Hollinger.
