Nets are taking "new jersey" off their Uniforms?

I heard this on Around the Horn today. Reports the Mayor of New Jersey is demanding the Nets to not have new jersey on their uniforms unless they are willing to pay tax dollars for the name. Thoughts or confirmations?

i havent heard anything about this. i did see today though on PTI the nets were one of the topics but i didnt get to see what they said about them so im assuming its what you brought up. i dont know if any other teams have to do this but if this is true its just (Please Use More Appropriate Word). i dont understand this state, we have like 47 billion tolls that millions of people pay every day, we have one of the worlds largest gambling sites, where is all the money going? organ trafficking in the black market? (which is true if youve watched the news in the past month). why would the mayor be picking on the nets for anyway, theres only like 30 people that go to the games.

are you talking about this? this REQUIRES all teams in new jersey to use the name new jersey on their uniforms.

I don't see what the big deal is...

The Nets had 3 jerseys last season:

- Red
- White
- Blue

On the front of the red and white ones it says "NETS", while on the blue ones it says "NEW JERSEY". If they want to get rid of the blue ones then so what?

I can probably count on one hand the number of people I've seen in New Jersey wearing a Nets jersey (outside of the Izod center / accompanying area).

The blue jersey's were ugly. Hopefully once they re-design the jersey's they keep the logo and colors. I like the logo and colors, they just need an updated jersey. Do little changes like the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, Magic, etc. have done.

I despise the red and grey jerseys.
The only ones I like are the blue and the white.
I've known about this for a while and mentioned to no avail in a thread about 3 weeks ago.
I have never heard anything about Corzine being in on this, supposedly it's a ploy by the Rat and marketing department to distant themselves and the team from the state of New Jersey.
Big slap in the face to the fans that live here if you ask me.
Never heard of the mayor of NJ either, those are usually called governors. It seems education has failed in Texas. :nonono:
Supposedly Booker and Corzine are highly upset over this.

Anyone else notice this? LOL

Lots of teams don't have the city they play in on their uniforms. The Nets pay ENOUGH money to the state for leasing the crappy IZOD. I really couldn't care less if they only wore their uniforms that say "Nets."

I really think that at home it should say Nets...and on the road it should say New Jersey.
It sort of represents the city.
And that goes with the whole leauge too...some teams do it and some teams dont.

Im just saying
S.K

I actually like this idea. All home games have the team name, all away teams bear their city on their jersey. That is pretty cool.

But seriously, a lot of teams in all major sports do not say the city on their jerseys. On around the horn yesterday they pointed out that the Baltimore Orioles NEVER had Baltimore on their jersey. Look back in our history though. We didn't ALWAYS have "New Jersey" on our uniforms. So management can just argue we're being nostalgic lol and reflecting on the original jerseys the Nets wore when we entered the NBA because neither home or away jersey had "New Jersey" on them. It really is just New Jersey officials bitter that they're losing a tennant they charge too much rent to anyway.

Here's a list of NBA teams that don't display where they are from on ANY of their jerseys:

Golden State Warriors
Houston Rockets
LA Lakers
Portland Trailblazers
San Antonio Spurs
Washington Wizards

Here's a list of NBA teams that only display where they are from on their ALTERNATE jerseys:

Celtics - On green (the ugly one that's green and black)
Chicago - On black
LA Clippers - On blue
Milwaukee Bucks - On red
Toronto Raptors - On black

I know a lot of teams don't have the name of there state on there jerseys, but we do and now there taking it off,if you never had something you can't miss it.The part that bothers me, is that there taking it off the jersey to distant themselves from the state, but the NETS will be playing here for at least the next 2-3 years.

I mean i'm over it already its just the way they do things. They act like everyone in New jersey is so happy the team is moving to Brooklyn.Thats what its all about really, there just your average NYers who look down on NJ.I gotta say it was fun while it lasted.Being from NJ i loved beating on the Knicks for all these years cuz NYers think there the best and they never give NJ any respect. All good things come to a end i guess.

I loved being In Jersey as much as you, but you got to understand one thing. The Knicks are in the heart of NYC with ten million people commuting. The ZOD is in East Rutherford, Population: Marsh. The Nets are not selling enough tickets to bring in and keep all stars. Being in the BK, the nets will be under the pressure of NY media and will have to spend the money. It is going to be fun having a building rocking every night, maybe the tired Knick fans will support a better winning Net team finally?
Brooklyn is going to be huge.
Yankees in the Bronx.
Mets in Flushing.
Nets In Brookyln.
Who gives a crap, lets just work on being called the
New York Nets?!?!

Again though, over our entire history in Jersey, we've had "Nets" on our jerseys A LOT LONGER than "New Jersey" on any jersey, so in the respect we're staying truer to our history. I do agree it's kind of a slap in the face because, as of this moment, it's clearly a move to make the location of the Nets ambiguous to the unknowing eye, but I just think lawmakers are blowing it out of proportion. I am 100% POSITIVE that if the Nets weren't moving to Brooklyn, were staying at the IZOD or moving to the ROCK, nobody would give a rats ass about this and that is why I actually condone management's actions. The lawmakers in Jersey are just bitter because they're losing basically the only tennant of the IZOD which will lead to the demise of that building (it's way passed its prime anyway).

People gotta see through the BS politics here. They're not pissed because they're taking the "New Jersey" off their jersey all that much. Hell nobody watches the Nets anyway. We don't have even 1 nationally televised game on cable this year. They are not losing tourist revenue due to the jersey change. They are just bitter that the Nets management are positioning themself for the move and the lawmakers are getting their panties in a bunch about anything management does at this point.

I like Brooklyn Nets better. My family is from Brooklyn though so maybe I'm a little biased though.

Dude is so overrated.
Hope they didn't pay much.
I also hope this isn't their version of a replacement for Sessions, lol.
God that franchise is just miserable.
I wouldn't be shocked to see them dump Bogut.

I don't get this move either and they would be stupid not to match any offer for sessions unless a team over pays him.

I understand where your coming from.I don't care about the politics,it's me personally.I just want the team to stay in NJ lol.We don't have a big fan base but theres still some kind of fan base here.If we move to the Prudential Center we'd be rockin every night and growing a bigger fan base in Njs largest city.Rather than starting over from scratch in Knick country.I know I know Keep dreaming.
