I know a lot of people want to see Tony Battie's contract get bought out, but I think that is the wrong move:

I agree I think he can be very servicable, but the we're stacked in the big man rotation. So he'll see PT when someone goes down.

I'm one of the people who will actually be pissed if we buy him out. He's a solid defensemen and will be a good mentor to Brook and Boone in my opinion. He still plays with intensity and is an expiring so I don't want to see him go. If he asked us to buy him out, I'm sure management would do so to save some cash, but I really hope we don't move him. I do know that decent bench big man are pretty valuable near the deadline though.

We'll see.

Agreed. We might be able to get a couple of 2nd roudners for him. Besides, he expires next year so no harm in keeping him. Alston on the other hand...

We are not stacked at the 4 or 5 unless you consider Brook, the project Yi and few junk players stacked. Keep the Battie, he's needed.
Trade him at the deadline for a 1st or just another expiring we can buyout cheap.

It'd be nice if we possibly could consolidate some expirings. Like Hassel/Alston for a bigger expiring at the deadline. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed we can find a taker for Najera though. I personally think we could have moved him already if he wasn't coming off of surgery. I think teams want to see how he does and will wait at the deadline. Najera would be a nice addition to the bench of any playoff team.

I agree we should keep Battie for the time being. We need a big man coach anyway. He's a solid vet who can teach our young bigs a thing or to on the defensive end.Who else are they gonna look up to.

for the record I like Tony Battie and I think he could contribute to the Nets...I'd like to see him get play instead of Hassel and Najera on our team...still pulling for Sean to make a break through...

Most llikely Battie and Alston will be here until the trading deadline. I think Alston is here until Dooling proves that he is game shape.

Battie can definitely be a Mentor to our team, especially Lopez. Now that Carter is gone, Lopez has a Vet in Battie who can mentor him throughout the season.

Besides that he is a decent player.

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen many people saying that Battie should be bought out. The ones that have brought it up have suggested it AFTER the trade deadline. At that point it's as much a favor to Battie by giving him a chance to go for a ring.
