Lee's Revenge: Love It? Hate It?

I must admit, I'm torn on how to feel about the latest Courtney Lee interview.

I love his passion to become the best he can be, but his words raise some red flags IMO. He seems more preoccupied with retribution than with building up our team.

i like it. if this man has a great game against the magic at home it may set him up for the rest of the season to prove more people wrong. But if he sucks it up that game then idk

He has expressed that his heart is with the magic...and he is sucking it up with the nets.

The media is blowing this out of proportion I think. The guy has barely been with the team. It's basically like when you're a kid and go to summer camp and find out your best friend is with another counselor and you know nobody in your group. You're upset and nervous, but you make the most of it. He seems like a pretty emotional guy, but so was RJ and I was (still am once you get past the ego) fine with it. We have a solid young team and everyone has a fun, work-hard-play-hard character. Lee will realize very early that he fits in with us on and off the court and by all-star break everything will be forgotten.

You know who else was sad (in fact he cried when he got traded)...Brad Miller. The guy is a professional. He knows what he has to do each night and he even said during the playoffs that he was amazed the team was able to gel so quickly. That will happen in New Jersey with Courtney Lee too.

I'm not feeling his whiny, prima donna, me 1st, always talking about me, non-team attitude.
This is like the 6xth or 7th interview that he has put everyone on blast.
Be easy duke.
It was time to start giving vanilla answers a while ago, things like, "I am a New Jersey Net now. I enjoyed and will relish my time and experience in Orlando, but now I am a Net. I want to focus on being an integral part of this team and do all I can to help us become a playoff team an winner.", not this garbage he keeps spewing about being an Allstar and Dwight's teammate and how good he is going to be be and me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me!
Get off the bull$hit! You're Courtney freakin' Lee!
You were the 22 overall pick and and 23 year old rookie with a god awful PER of 10.8 and terrible per36 #'s whose only role was to hit open jumpers and expend all your energy on the defensive end all while being the 5th option on offense.
If they didn't have the injuries they did he would have NEVER got the minutes he did.
He became a starter by default, just like Josh Boone 2 seasons ago.
As of right now, he's an overrated role player.
Can he be more?
Sure.
The only reason he is on the Nets is because NJ and really Yi's handlers wanted to clear out any real competition for playing time for Yi this season and Orlando wanted Anderson.
Don't be fooled that it was because the FO has no faith in CDR or that they weren't sure we would get one of Terrence Williams or Gerald Henderson. Good teams need a good 4 guard rotation and he becomes part of that.
If Lee is the starter, which I assume he will be, it will be by default. Don't think for a minute he is the clearly superior player or clearcut starter compared to the other two.
He is a good player and has potential, but a future star I doubt.
Someone between Radja Bell and Cuttino Mobley sounds about right and I am fine with that, there is nothing wrong with that.
All his me first, insistant sobbong is killing me though. Waa, waa, cry me a river.
You got traded 22nd overall, get over it.

I always likened his potential to Kerry Kittles, but maybe I'm biased because I saw Kerry for years haha. But he, to is similar to Bell where he can play great perimeter defense and hit the open jumper. Nonetheless, our outside shooting better improve this season. Brook is gonna start getting some double teams and EVERYONE on the floor needs to have their head up when Devin takes a guy off the dribble this season. Courtney Lee brings something we lacked on last years roster. With how much he is talking about his game, I expect (not hope...expect due to his confidence/ego) that he follows through.

In the NBA it's usually a good thing to have a chip on your shoulder. This will keep him motivated. If I were him I would be offended to some degree. Besides, I don't think that trade was as good for Orlando as a lot of people made it out to be. This will work out well for New Jersey. If this is something he's still talking about a year from now then the red-flag-waving can begin.

vc4pres hit the nail on the head. Kittles was my mian comparison as well, but I like the Mobley connection. Undersized, quality defenders, efficient scorers, but don't have that IT factor to lift them to stardom (at least I don't think Lee does).

I am anxious to see how he performs when there aren't 4 other players on the floor vastly superior to him. If he wouldn't mind, shutting up would be a heck of an idea any day now...

so is it pretty much expected that Lee will start at the 2 with CDR as backup ?

I had the impression that CDR thought he & Lee would be battling for the starting 2 spot in pre-season or is Lee as the "cornerstone" of the summer trade already slotted in ?

I guess this other question is another topic all-together but where does T-Will fit into all this
5 - Brook / Battie / Boone
4 - Yi ? / Najera
3 - Simmons / T-Will (or vice versa but L.Frank on last year of contract may want more experience)
2 - Lee ? / Hayes / CDR
1 - Harris / Dooling

where does Rafer fit in ? or is Dooling going to take 2 minutes ? then how does CDR fit in ?
I can see Najera playing some 3, Boone/Battie playing some 4....some interchangeable parts there.
Frank will have interesting time shuffling the minutes/rotations this year...

Bench/Limbo - SWAT

I like the fact that he has passion, but that should be more towards being the best player he can be, rather than getting revenge against the Magic.

Nets Rotation, by the end of training camp:

Harris, Lee, Williams, Jianlian, Lopez
Alston, Dooling, Simmons, Najera, Boone
Hassell, Roberts, Hayes, Williams, Battie

That's right, I see CDR ending up on the deep bench, again.

I really don't see Williams starting at all.. Simmons will most likely get that spot with hayes being his primary backup..

I like the fact the Lee is out to get the Magic. I like players that have a chip on their shoulders. I have been begging VC to light up the Raptors for years. Lee needs to light them up. Then light up every other team that passed on him. Then he needs to harass every SG he plays against on D. Then he needs to breaking peoples ankles and drain open jumpers. He needs to play a two man game with Lopez and be open to drain some open 3s.

Let him vent. On other NBA teams. The Kid will be fine.

venting...a chip...thats all good...but its beyond that, come on man...I should know, I got a thank you card for the box of tissues he received from me...

again I hope you're right...honestly, I'm being hard on the guy because of the so called devastation he was faced with after he had to break ties w. D. Howard and they're talk of being the next Shaq and Penny was crushed...(come on, he's not that good...)

but sky's the limt...if he's going to come out a play like Penny because he WANTS to PROVE the Magic wrong...sign me up!
