Due to his national team commitments. Kind of a surprise. What do you guys think?

I'd much rather have him hear with the team that doesn't take him for granted and push his body to its physical breaking point. Now this whole tournament-thing-a-ma-jig, is the first game of it the same date of the season opener? Or is it possible that Team China can get knocked out early and Yi will indeed be available to play for the Nets?

That's really bad for him, he knows it, too, but he will have to play that kind of game, that's the truth, let's hope that he will not get hurt, and he will not get too tired.

The championship game is scheduled for Oct. 28th. From my understanding, Team China should mop the floor with their regional competition, so he's pretty much locked up until at least Nov 1.

Now I'm REALLY upset that we traded Ryan Anderson. Man, that was Brook's BFF, and was arguably a better ball player than Yi.

Hopefully all he works on with the team is defense because he isn't learning any over there.

In that kind of tournament, he will always have 2 or 3 people around him, hopefully he will learn to use his muscle better and be more efficiency in painted area, that's all I can wish for now.

Edit: The CEO of Guang Dong Tigers said the Nets did not officially let Yi back to China yet, they did have some agreement, because that Championship game was planned to play on 23th, Oct, but now it' was delayed (will be played on 28th, Oct), so the Nets did not say "Yes" for now, there's still some possibility that Yi will stay, phew...

Anyway, nobody except some government officials of Guang Dong Province wants to see Yi playing that tournament!

I think this is a non-issue.

I can't recall any player ever missing any actual NBA preseason action (let alone regular season) due to international competition. If he were to play, I'd have to think the Nets could suspend him without pay. Also, doesn't China collect a certain percentage of Yi's salary/revenue? If that's the case, I don't know if they'd sacrifice that for this tournament.

He's not playing for his national team. This is National Games of the People's Republic of China, he is representing his state to compete with the other states. And from what I know, they have a pretty strong team too, so should go deep in the tournament (They were 3rd, 4th, 2nd in previous tournament)....I know it sucks for the nets, but there were talks about Yi only playing in semi-final and final, I don't know what's their final decision though.

NJ Nets: Yi Jianlian's not double-dipping
with Chinese national team

by Dave D'Alessandro/The Star-Ledger
Friday September 18, 2009, 4:54 PM

That report about Yi Jianlian missing the season opener -- and being away from the Nets from Oct. 16th to the 28th to compete in the Chinese National Games -- is grossly exaggerated, Rod Thorn says.

The Nets president said he wasn't familiar with the original report, but after being informed of its details, he quashed it in four sentences.

"No, no -- he's not going to be away from Oct. 16th to the 28th," Thorn said dismissively. "They'd like him to be in the tournament, and it conflicts with the opening of our season. But what I said was, if they wanted him to go for two or three days -- like sometime around Oct. 14th to the 16th -- that would be all right.

"But once we get to a certain time in camp, there's no way, because we're getting ready for our season."

What if the Chinese authorities want those three days to be closer to the end of the month?

"The games they want him to be there are for the end of the month," Thorn said. "But our season starts on the 28th. So that's not going to work."

So this isn't going to become a thing?

"No," the Boss said flatly. "They understand he has to play here. You can't be going over there at that time."

The Nets' opener is Oct. 28th at Minneapolis, and their home opener at Izod is two nights later against Vince Carter and the Magic.

It seems that the Nets officially refused to allow Yi back to play that tournament, great news!

Since its not an official international game (It is State Championship), Nets supposely do not have to release Yi. However, the China officials claimed that they have reached an agreement with the Bucks that they would release Yi for these games, therefore I guess they would expect Nets to do them a favor. Don't know how it will turn out though

Are we going to have some problems with China every year? Yi is going to end his career early because of these guys. Any news on Yi's ankle? When Yi got injured, didn't we have the power to pull him out and examine the ankle? Some teams did that to their players in the Eurobasket tourney.
