Chris Paul

Hi everyone, i just want to refresh the idea of getting Paul here next year. New Orleans seems to be having some problems and maybe this is the best time to trade for him. Months ago, i remember us talking about getting Paul because, partly, the team is going to have a hard time paying for his services and some other bigtime players, and because of that Paul wont be able to have a chance to get his team to the playoffs in the future, and that future seems to be coming closer. In other words, NO might not have the money to pay for more than one max type player.
While the Nets future seems bright with 2 first round picks, the team that has the most cap next season and a promising billionare owner (if it goes through). Do you guys think we have a chance to get Chris Paul? Or do you guys even want him? Would you trade Devin and 2 first round picks for him? Is it too much to give up for him or not enough? What if we ended up getting the number 1 pick, would you still trade it for Paul? I know i would.
I would give up anything to get him not named Lopez. Although getting John Wall is interesting but i dont know much about that guy yet and Paul is a proven playmaker and scorer. He can make life a lot easier for Lopez as well. But the best part is if Prokhorov is the man many think he is, then the Nets can still sign two more FA's, even if its just one superstar talent we'd still be good.
I want to know Paul's value because i suck on evaluating superstar's talent.

He's on the tier just below Lebron and Howard in terms of value. He's currently the best PG, revitalized basketball in NO and is only 24 years old.
To be honest I never expect the Hornets tp be this bad, I tought they got better by adding Okafor to the mix, seriously surprised they're struggling this badly.
Before the season started people on here were discussing Paul and I remember I was one of the few that didn't think the Hornets would even listen to trade offers for Paul. That being said, mix the way the team is struggling, the teams financial troubles and Paul already showing his frustrations, I think day to day it's becoming more likely that they would at least entertain offers.
I was trying to figure out a trade where we give them picks, good players AND salary relief BUT if we were to do the deal I came up with, we would have no money left to sign anyone next offseason.

I think if Paul goes it is likely in the offseason as a draft night deal.

I can actually see a deal like this happening, just because Devin is still a young all star pg on a very good contract for the Hornets, plus we have the picks and sweetners to make a deal like this happen. If Paul came to the team he would have the same effect that Kidd did when he came here, book it.
Edit: actually haha
what if we did something like Devin, Dallas pick, our pick and simmons for peja and paul? something along those lines

If a deal went down, I still assume it would be one of three:
Devin/Lee/Yi/Simmons/Dallas 1st for Paul/Peja
Devin/T Will/Yi/Simmons/Dallas 1st for Paul/Peja
Or in the offseason, if we got a top 3 pick:
Our pick/Dallas pick/Yi/Lee/Najera for Paul/Posey and then we trade Devin for someone else or another top 8 pick and capspace.

The numbers for that wouldn't work. We'd probably have to throw in T.Will. Superstars don't come cheap, you have to open up that that bag of treats pretty wide.
I wouldn't be opposed to this though, but pipe dreams just make me sad so i'll just put it in the section of my mind labeled "no chance, stop dreaming".

Paul won't go anywhere he doesn't want to.
He'll go to a contending team, if he's moved at all.
Or a team right below contender level that would move up with his arrival.
We don't have a shot until 2010 FA... if we picked up a big name, than I'd see it being more likely.
But it'd likely take some combination of Harris + our #1 pick this year + filler to get a trade there done.

One thing for everyone to keep in mind.
With the exception of Marbury to the Knicks (thanks Isiah), in none of these blockbuster trades has a team packaged the superstar with garbage contracts and in this economy I think it's that much more unlikely. It makes it significantly harder to match contracts and frankly, it further devalues the amount of talent coming back to the team trading the superstar.
Since it's already hard enough to get close to full value for a superstar, devaluing that player further by attaching garbage (Peja, Posey, MoPete) is a terrible idea IMO for the Hornets. With the Nets' cap situation this summer, it's an equally terrible idea for them as well.

I would rather throw in Lee than TWill easily

There's no way NO is trading Paul they'll just try to rebuild around him all over again.
Also I wouldnt trade our pick if we get the #1 or #2 pick as both will net us a player that will help us more than CP3 (#1 pick we go for Wall who might very well be better than Paul and the #2 pick will net us that franchise PF that we desperately need)

Paul is a top 5 player, I don't know who you think in this draft will be better, but...

Now apparently the Hornets are putting Okafor on the block.

With Paul here everybody will get better, even SWill will have a game like he had tonight against the Heat. It's just sad Frank is still coaching this team and Thorn never really saw the full value of SWill because of Frank. Everytime you pair up Boone or SWill with Brook good things happen, now, if Frank only gave Brook a little breather maybe he could've snatched some important rebounds which could've sealed the game for us. Using Boone and SWill as a center? Are you kidding me? Wow!
Paul is a proven player. Im not taking away anything from Wall and he might turn out to be a great player but getting Paul wouldn't be a minus, not a bad thing at all. Might still be the best PG in this era. Im not really concerned with the excitement Wall might bring, im not after those fancy dunks and passes, im more concerned of a better shooting and playmaking, easier assists to the big guys, not like our PG's now, it seems like there's always a lag when you watch them, the ball never gets to the cutting person right away and if they try to it would always turn out to be a TO. And that pisses me off.
Paul is tough and he can also jump, Wall might be more spectacular but im not really sure if he can shoot. If he can't, then a player like Jennings would be a better option than him who just scored 55 pts. tonight, 7 out of 8 from behind the arc. Poor Knicks...

Looks like there is already some takers.
