Brook an Allstar?

Dime has an interesting article right now about Brook becoming an Allstar this year. They give the postives and negatives. The link isn't working right now but they basically say his numbers are good enough but with a 2-19 record guys like Horford or Shaq might get the nod that is if Dwight gets voted in.

Lets compare the numbers among East Centers:

Howard - 18.4pts 12rbs 2blks
Lopez - 19.3pts 9.1rbs 2.2blks
Horford - 13.3pts 9.5rbs 1.4blks
Shaq - 10.9pts 6.8rbs 1.3blks
Noah - 10.2pts 11.6rbs 1.7blks
Bogut - 15.1pts 9.3rbs 1.7blks
Lee - 18pts 10rbs 0.4blks
Barg - 16.7pts 6.5rbs 1.1blks

I think they will most likely take 2 centers one voted in and one coaches pick.
Either Dwight or Shaq will get voted which means if Shaq is voted then Dwight is the coaches pick no question. If Dwight gets voted then things get interesting.

I think there are a few guys that can be scratch fro the get go. Noah (because his numbers aren't that great and his team is bad so he's got no shot), Lee (because his team is bad and his D is well not good lets say so he's out), Barg (#'s just aren't there rebounding especially). For arguement sake lets say Dwight wins the vote.

That leave Brook, Shaq, Horford, and Bogut. Bogut missed sometime this year so that hurts him but his team is putting up some wins so that helps him. Shaq well he plays on a top team so that helps plus his track record, but his numbers aren't even close to any of the guys on this list. Horford puts up solid number on a good team so I think he is the main threat here. Lopez puts up the best numbers but plays on the team with the worst record so I think coaches will look negatively on that.
Just look at Mo Will last year he made it because his team had a good record.

Lopez will get considered rightfully but I think Horford probably gets the call instead.

He'll be considered, certainly, but if the Hawks are still as good as they are and Horford's numbers are still pretty decent like they are now, he'll get the nod, I think.

How can you eliminate 2 players by saying there team is bad, but have Brook getting in?

^ ^ ^ Bad team + numbers not comparable to Lopez = No Allstar team. Lee plays no D thats why he's out.

If we turn things around a little and are in double digit wins by the time the coaches picks are due, and Brook keeps playing at the ridiculous level he has been lately, then he can make it.

Shaq has done nothing eye popping that he get the selection from the coaches....this cleary should be Brook Lopez's first all star game

This team is just too bad for Lopez to be voted in the all star game by the coaches. It's sad it's not his fault but that's just the way it goes.

Well that's part of what I don't get... Intuitively it should be HARDER to put up good stats on a bad team than it is on a good team.

On a bad team teams can key in on the primary scorer and really load up on him on good teams it's much harder to do that because there are multiple offensive threats...

Great topic!

Howard gets voted in....Shaq gets left off...Brook over Al? hell I take both, but you really have analyze who really deserves it overall, there is always that last spot on the roster regardless of position they play, the coaches will give that guy the nod. Al is a PF/C...Brook has a decent shot at it...2nd in double-doubles...come on, what he is accomplishing on bad team, with the amount of injuries in his second year in the league...pretty damn good...

I won't be surprised or upset if he's left off. While Lopez is the only reason we have those 2 wins AND not losing every game by 35, I don't think it'll be enough to get him selected over Horford or Bogut with that 2-21 record.

Hope he makes it, he leads the NBA in 20,10 games but the team just sucks and one could easily argue that it doesn't deserve an All-star..

Basketball people know Brook is a legit. He'll have a few all-star seasons, but this year, he definitely won't make it by fan voting. Only chance he has this year is how much the coach of the East likes him over other players in other positions to fill out the bench.
