2010 Draft

The NCAA season is far enough in where we can get a good idea of the 2010 draft prospects. The Nets currently own 3 picks, so who ya got. I checked draftexpress.com and nbadraft.net to get an idea of who's coming out and approximately where they should go to make my selections.
Our 1st rounder:
1. Wall
2. Favors/Turner (not sure yet who I like more)
3. Xavier Henry (love his size and shooting)
Those are the four I would love to have in order
Dallas 1st. (obviously this depends on who we draft first but we need size)
1. Charles Garcia (remember this name) (we may have to package our 2nd to move up and grab him but I would given our need for a starting PF and his abilty to fit nicely next to Brook)
2. Craig Brakins
3. Gani Lawai
4. Jerome Jordan
Our 2nd rounder:
If any of the 4 listed above are still there I think we should go big again if not I got some others to keep an eye on.
1. Lance Stephenson (nbadraft has him in the second round and I would love to get him here or with the Dallas pick. Not sure if he'll even come out)
2. James Anderson (good shooter/scorer)
3. Paul George (great 3pt. shooter)
4. Quincy Pondexter (undersized so might drop)
With all this being said the 2010 draft looks to be very exciting for us and we could potentially land 2 solid prospects and 1 potential superstar.

I personally can't see us using the Dallas pick. I honestly think we'll swing some deal for a player prior to the draft and pick on the other teams behalf...or trade the dallas pick for a future pick down the road that has some restrictions on in.
How far down the road can you trade? 3 years? Give me a 2012 1st rounder and cash for the Dallas pick and we're good. I just can't see us adding TWO rookies next year. Something will happen before then or on draft night.

To be honest I think the Nets will use all their draft picks make some mediocre **** free agent signing and tell us all about the wonders of rebuilding... They'll then proceed to give us reversible jerseys of the players we could have signed but didn't.

^^ yeah I expect us to use them too. We aren't gonna make a big splash this offseason with a big signing. I think we're gonna have to watch one more year of crap. 2011 seems like a the year when we'll be ready to make our splash and I think Melo is that guy. Our team will be much more balanced and all the off court stuff will be settled.
I really don't want to add 2nd-3rd teir free agents. We then become an average team maybe a 6th seed. Thats not what I want for the next 5 years. I'd rather go through another season like this and get another top pick, then make a run at Melo.

That wouldn't shock me at all. While the free agent chase is still a long shot, flipping the Dallas pick for a lottery protected future pick would save an additional $1.25 million or so against the cap.

If that's the case, my idea of trading the Dallas pick is better for us. It saves us a little over a mill for the following summer. No use locking up more salary (albeit a small amount in this case) unless we have a feeling the kid is gonna be a flat out stud.
Just to clear up there air, I'm not banking on a top tier free agent.
Personally, I think we're gonna add a "vet building block" this year. That's just my opinion. As long as we don't blow our cap, summer 2011 is looking better for us to spend. I think it all depends on what our draft spot comes out to though. If we take John Wall, I can see us moving Harris for someone at the deadline with a long contract similar to Devin's in a need position, then go hard after Melo that summer.
Who are the unrestricted's and opt out guys that summer before I get ahead of myself.
Everyone has to remember this is a slow process. We can't be too hasty with the rebuild. I think until the arena is actually being constructed for people to see with their own eyes, we're going to have to be patient.

Melo/David West are unrestricted and Durant/Jeff Green are restricted. Those are the big names, I though CP3 was restricted but I didn't see him on the list. Prince and Nene are others. Plus some good role players like Battier/J. Rich/Butler.

I too agree that the Nets will use all their draft picks.
Remember
Alston, Simmons, Hassell, Battie, SWill, and Hayes (dont want him to) are gone next year. That is too many guys leaving to say that the Nets dont keep those three picks. Only way we dont keep them is if we use them to move up to #1 or 2 if we land 3 or below.
All I have to say is WALL. If we dont get #1 pick, I want a rebounding PF or C.
With dallas' pick you have to go for another PF or C. With second round, we have to find a gem like Ellis or Redd or Arenas.
Is anyone keeping up with this Elijah Millsap, Millsap's brother?

Here is another question.
If we get #1 pick, Would you trade harris and Dallas pick to 76ers for their top pick and Dalembert on draft night?
If they get the anything after 2 or 3, right now most of the top prospects are SF, PF, C and a few SG. 76ers need a PG. We just draft Wall. We could get another young PF or C to put next to Lopez.
The only issue is that the 76ers get alittle bit better.

I personally love Louis Williams. He gets better and better every year. I don't know if Harris is that much of an upgrade, plus I'm not paying Dalembert to be a backup center. I can't see Nets management doing that. Unless there were 2 guys close together in the draft the Nets felt we HAD TO HAVE, I think we could get a better deal in return for Harris and a pick. But if the Nets were dying for 2 players, all bets are off because sometimes our management defies all logic lol.

Louis Williams does have experience at both PG and SG though right? I'm not saying he's a bad player, but I think of him more as that Barbosa/Jason Terry 3rd guard type more than a true PG.
I do agree with you about Dalembert. Trading for Harris would indicate they are going for it, so I doubt they give away their starting C. Something centered around Kapono and filler would seem to make more sense for both sides.

If we were somehow able to steal Speights in a deal for Harris/picks, I'd love life. That kid and Brook would be awesome together.

Speights is okay he's a bit of a chucker though.

Someone explain to me how Speights is a chucker? The guy averages 14/6 a game in 24 minutes a game of work and shoots 55% from the field and takes just over 10 shots a game. The kid is in his 2nd season and is putting up very solid numbers. If he develops a consistent 15-18' jumper, he's basically perfect next to Brook. Calling him a chucker is laughable in my opinion. He's been lights out since he's come back from injury.

Hey Prelude don't forget to mention that his assist to turnover ratio is an amazing 0.5...

Yeah I'm not giving up on LBJ yet but I'm being realistic. Oh and Speights is really nice I would love to get him, unlikely though. The Sixer trade I would do, don't know if the Sixers would though.
Harris
Iggy
Young
Speights
Dalembert
would be a nice lineup bring lou/Brand off the bench in a three guard/forward rotation. That would be their one last shot before blowing it up. Oh plus Iverson I forgot about him. I'll like that both ways. Kapono/Green/1st. for Harris/Hayes works
What about this, seeing the Jazz cutting cap with their latest trade.
Nets get:
AK (expires 2011
Price (expires 2011)
Knicks 1st.
Jazz get:
Harris
Battie
Najara
Jazz cut salary and get Harris who could play along side of D. Will and get some cap space to either resign Boozer or go after some other palyers. Nets get another lottery pick and two 2011 expirings while dumping Najara. Maybe throw in a pick to really entice them but I 'd rather not.
I like the Sixer trade better

The player we should be interested in the sixers team is Thaddeus Young. He is versatile, he's long, works hard, he can shoot and TIRELESS. I think TIRELESS is the key word when we talk about a player that we want to covet. Right now, we have a bunch of players who's not hustling or playing like he's an all-star, all we do is shoot (except for CDR and that's why i like him).
Talking about a work-horse and this coming draft, i would like to know why almost everybody is so high on Favors. I get a feeling this guy is going to be a bust. He doesn't go after the ball which he could've blocked, weak rebounder and he gets tired easily, no resistance. He has some post moves but so does other big men, so i don't see any reason why we have to use our high pick on him if we somehow end up with a 2nd to 4th pick.
The guy i'm most intrigued by is Willie Warren. I don't know if he is a top 5 talent but imagine having this guy instead of Harris against the Wolves... Those 3pt shots Devin took could've been an easy basket for Warren. He's tough, he's big and most of all, he can shoot. Although, he is about similar to Devin, who are both scorers and not the playmaking PG we've been dreaming, if Wall is taken i would seriously check on this guy. Of course, there's always other players that stands-out if i'm wrong about Warren. Turner is one, there's Patrick Patterson (mock draft say he's not top 10 talent but he is to me), Motiejunas, maybe Ed Davis, Xavier and W. Johnson. I'd stay away from Aldrich and Aminu. Monroe, i need to see more from him to convince me. I also think that they may try to move the Dallas' pick but if Stanley Robinson, Brackins and Damion James are there they might want to think about them.
I have a question for the knowledgeable Basketball fans... let's say we end up with a 8-win 2009-2010 season record and the next to last team's record is 20-win, do we now get a better chance of grabbing the number one pick than the previous dead last team like the Kings during the 2008-2009 season? I want to remind you guys that the Kings won 17 games last season and the Clippers and Wizards are tied next to last with 19 games. Is our percentage now more higher or it's always fixed for all the dead last teams? Is our chances better than the Kings or just the same?
Also, which one comes first... the FA signing deadline (or is there one?), the trading deadline, the deadline for the players to join the draft and the NBA lottery (not the draft, just the positioning)?
