Yi has been a monster since coming back. He's been recklessly attacking the rim, shooting looks smooth (he could always do that), and he's even dunking with force. He's been getting to the line alot and I think this is the guy we've all been waiting for.

Now defense is another thing his rebounding has been decent but his awareness and IQ are what is holding him back from being a complete player.

If he can continue to build on this I would love to keep Yi around as our sixth man next year. He can play the 4/5. Yeah I said the 5 because most teams centers are small enough for Yi to defend against (there are a few exceptions).

We still need more size but I think we have to 2 great sixth men now in Yi (for the bigs) and CDR (for the guards).

Now we just need starters to fill their roles so they can come off the bench where they can put their instant offense to good use.

uhh, Yi might actually be a starter...

what? he is considered to be a sixth man? the nets have no one else on the 4 to bench him .

Yeah I know we have nobody to take his spot right now but I think he would be great coming off the bench with CDR if we could get a starting SF and a PF for next year.

The way he's playing Yi is a starter. If he keeps it up, at least.

YI is a fre**kin' beast right now,he just owend Jeff Green and krstic last night. there is no way he is a bench, what happened to the people always not be happy with his * progressing.

did u watch the game last night? during the 4th quarter we got owned by the OCS becasue YI was out for rest. CDR wlliams and DH just played like Sebastian Telfair ,all the flashy crossover but no help to the team at all.

The way Yi was pushing people around he has not only gotten confidence he has also upped his toughness. Now if he can just remember who he is guarding. Yi is a starter right now, but if we draft a PF that can rebound and defend, yi might have to go to the bench. Another thing the way Yi was playing physical yesterday he didnt get into foul trouble in the 1st quarter

The effort is there with Yi it's really like night and day with this guy when you compare how he's playing now to how he played last year.

IMHO Yi's has all the tool to be a star in this league, you wont see many legitimate 7fter with the shooting touch and athleticism of him, I think he is capable of being a less shooting more rim attacking version of Dirk if he really wants to. It's all mental, once he get it, he is going to own.

So, true. From how smooth he moves, you could see the talent. He had been misused by previous coaches to be an exclusive outside jump shooter. I mean sure it was the best for the team to get a win since he was a very good shooter. But for such a bundle of talent, you want to throw them down low and learn the big man games in the NBA via error and trial. His athletism is truly among the best PFs in this league, maybe only slightly below Bosh, KG, and Amare.

So, I guess it's not about Yi figuring it out but rather the coach.

OK lets calm down here "just below KG, Bosh, and Amare" Yi been good but not that good. He gets lost on D alot of the time, but I love the effort and hustle. The rest of this year is huge for Yi if he fades again he might never get it but if he can continue to improve we might have ourselves a PF.

I believe the above poster said that Yi's athleticism is just below KG, Bosh and Amare, not that he as a player is just below them

Ture, the coach is very important at least for his confidence...and Yi is more strong this year, which enable him to show his skills, which are basicly developed in China, strengthen in NBA.
I mean you guys now can see what we Chinese fans have seen when Yi played in China's league-- CBA.

On a more serious note, yes exactly, Yi is starting to play like the way he did in China's CBA. The Chinese fans who have watched him closely and actually know basketballall knew that Yi will pan out to be a great NBA player, but it might take awhile. He has huge potential, and a good work ethnic. He struggled the first two seasons because he was still adjusting to the level of competition in the NBA as well as various injuries. Now, it looks like he might finally have made the adjustment and recovered his confidence. If he keeps up his current level of performance, he can easily be a Barginani type player, maybe even a bit tougher.

Yi is putting up consistent numbers in these couple of games back, but we have yet to see him sustain this for a whole season. So it's kind of premature to say that Yi's going to have a great NBA career. We saw a glimpse of his ability last season, but then he injured his hand and when he came back Frank benched him.
A huge reason as to why Yi is also playing better is obviously due to the new coaching, from Kiki and especially Del.

I would also say, after following and watching Yi since his Chinese days, I think Yi is actually showing a lot more attitude and emotion than he ever has in his career. From pounding his chest to actually trying to argue with the ref is something very unlike Yi or any Chinese players for that matter. He's also playing much more aggressive inside the paint as well and not being disgruntled from physical players, which is something he had problems with even in China.

The next game vs Cavs and Anderson Varejao will be very interesting, I'm waiting to see how Yi performs against the elite teams.

About the emotions and chest pounding, Chinese players have always generally been discouraged to do that. I seem to remember that Yao wasn't even used to dunking the ball when he first came to the NBA? It's just part of adjusting to a new league and a new culture.

Some players take longer to adjust than others, but then again Yi is known to be generally a quiet guy compared to even Yao. Sure part of it is adjusting to a new league and culture, but I think part of it was also Yi's own confidence and trust by his coaches. This is why it's surprising (in a good way) to me that Yi is now finally showing some emotion and attitude, which I think adds a lot to his confidence. If Yi lives up to his All-star hype, he'd basically be only 2nd to Yao Ming to accomplish that which is a huge accomplishment in its own.

Speaking of Chinese players, it was only last year some players in China also showed some attitude as well, like Liu Wei

China captain Liu Wei has been fined and suspended by the country's national association for his part in a postgame confrontation with former NBA forward Gabe Muoneke.

Muoneke, who played for Houston, Charlotte and Utah, wasn't injured in the Nov. 28 incident following a game between his Yunnan Running Bulls and Liu's Shanghai Sharks, according to the Chinese Basketball Association's Web site.

Liu is best known for his partnership with Yao Ming, the Houston Rockets star and his former Sharks teammate. The pair were the core of the team that made it to the quarterfinals at the Beijing Olympics in August.

Cai Liang and Muoneke had clashed on court as they wrestled for the ball. Cai, Liu and other members of the Sharks confronted Muoneke as he was leaving the stadium with his wife, three children and mother-in-law, the association said.

Muoneke was hit by a water bottle, chased into a corner, and surrounded by Sharks players. The incident was captured on security cameras, and the footage was reviewed by the league.

"The incident was abominable and serious in nature, casting a terrible influence over society and seriously harming the CBA's brand and reputation," the CBA said in a statement.
