2010 NBA Draft Thread: Nets Select Derrick Favors

Post#1 » by NetsForce » Mon Jan 25, 2010 2:40 am

You can pretty much lock the Nets in for the worst record in the league which basically means that due to the way the draft lottery is weighted they can pick no lower than fourth.

Here are the probabilities of the Nets draft pick if / when they end with the worst record in the league:

1st Pick: 25%
2nd Pick: 21.5%
3rd Pick: 17.8%
4th Pick: 35.7%

===

So who are your Top 4 prospects in in this draft and any thoughts on sleepers for the Dallas pick (will probably be around pick 23-25)?

Excuse me, NetsForce, I just need to add something...

2010 NBA Draft Selections
1st Round, 3rd Pick (3rd Overall)
*1st Round, 27th Pick (27th Overall)
2nd Round, 1st Pick (31st Overall)

*Dallas Trade, February 19, 2008 - New Jersey acquired Devin Harris, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, DeSagana Diop, Keith Van Horn, cash considerations, 2008 first-round pick (Ryan Anderson), and a 2010 first-round pick for Jason Kidd, Antoine Wright and Malik Allen.

I really love the idea of that draft day trade that someone proposed in the trade thread: Rubio's rights and Evan Turner for John Wall. I would do that in a second.

As for if we don't get the number 1, I'd have to go with Turner...he's sick. Then hopefully we could package the Dallas pick and one of CDR/Williams/Lee for a good, athletic 4, who plays defense and isn't a black hole.

My top four right now:

John Wall
Evan Turner
Wesley Johnson
Motiejunas (if he's in it)

I've fallen out of like with Favors, I think his hype was too much.

For the Dallas pick, I have a weird hope for it: I hope that Greg Monroe falls a bit, around 13-15, so we can trade up to get him, using the Dallas pick + whatever. If he doesn't, then I'd go with Dexter Pittman from Texas.

I'm not the biggest Rubio believer (60 cent might be his agent  ), but to be fair, Brandon Jennings stats were even worse in Europe last season.

I dont care about Jennings stats. Tyler Hanbourough had better stats in college then pretty much anyone in the country and hes not even a starter in the NBA. There are just certain players when you watch them play you know they have something special that doesnt show up on the stat sheet. That competitive edge and fire they play with. Rubio doesnt have that. He doesnt have anything. Hes quick but hes not explosive fast to take on NBA point guards, he cant jump which means unless hes wide open all of his layups are getting swatted out of the city border, and hes been injury prone in Europe which only plays like 16 games a season. No way he lasts 82.

Oh and to add, hes a little crybaby that wouldnt come to the NBA unless he was drafted by the right team. Pssh, get the hell out of here. Who does he think he is? There are far far more talented players in the states that would kill to play for any team in the NBA no matter how bad they are.

Revo, I completely understand where you're coming from, ect...(not disagreeing or agreeing)...but lets please keep it on a level where you are not calling anyone out here because they like a certain propsect...you may feel its that blatant, but lets just make an effort not to stray from the topic with some side conversation which will ultimately take away from this thread...

(just keep it on a debateble level)
Thanx!

John Wall or BUST!!!!!!

If we get the #2-4 pick, we need to trade up. I have heard of a few of the other guys. I have and will be watching a lot more College games this year. BUT

JOHN WALL or BUST!!!!!

Greg Monroe should have came out last year...every mock that I look at has him slipping down the list with each new mock.

I like how some sites are now reporting that outside of the top 5 this will be a weak draft... It's like they recycle the same articles every year but just change the names of the players.

Every year is a weak draft according to some of these fools...

I used to have a real problem with Rubio, but it was mainly his attitude, not his play.
This is all in around 26 minutes per game if I am not mistaken and those assists #'s are really good in Europe where it is harder to put them up. His game kind of reminds me of Shaun Livingston pre-injury, but with a three point shot and he was considered by many to be the future at the position before he destroyed his knee.

Couple of great games tonight. Checkout the G-Town/Cuse game, two big prospects in this one, Greg Monroe and Wesley Johnson.

In the night cap you got Xavier Henry, who a lot are higher on then me...

I agree with everything you just said.

Wall or Turner. I'm not sold on Johnson or Motiejunas though. Cousins has impressed me as of late though. Did you see the S.Carolina/Kentucky game last night? he looked Shaq-esque

Yeah, I'm not real big on Johnson either.
I really don't know a lot about Moteijunas except what I read, so I don't want to comment to deeply, but I have heard he is soft and not just the stereotypical, he's European so he's soft, but that he personally is a soft player.

Favors still has such massive upside as well.

I really like Ed Davis as well.

The problem with getting Amar'e is that if we wind up not getting Wall or Turner, all the other high prospects are big men with the exception of Johnson.
We trade for Stoudamire and wind up with say the 4th pick, I think that pick gets traded in a blockbuster deal for either a young proven star such as Granger or for Rubio and a late pick and we keep Harris for one more season, or maybe for an OJ Mayo, etc.

Wall will be the consensus #1....I also like Favors too...despite some scoring issues recently, I still believe this guys has a huge upside...still figuring out my top 5, but those are 2 of 5...

A couple of things.

1) I'm praying we land the #1 or #2. We NEED Wall or Turner. I would actually really like to see Turner running the point here. Anyone else think that could work. He's been excelling at it this year and I really think he can translate his PG game to the NBA for us.
Read this article
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/w ... index.html

It mentions how he handles the ball a lot more than Wall, and is just as efficient a PG.

2) Just saying. Dallas only has a 5 game lead on Houston, Memphis and OKC. They can easily miss the playoffs and land us another lotto pick. If they implode and fall there we would be looking at probably the 12th pick in the draft. Just saying haha.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
