If he is cut before the Moratorium ends, he is essentially 973k cap hold (500k for him and 473k for the roster slot). If the keep him around while they shop for FA's, they tie cap with his 3.8 mil.

This leads me to think he is cut no matter what as they do not want that space tied up. Is this consistent with what the thoughts are in NJ land?

If the Nets get the number 1 pick, and end up taking John Wall, Dooling will be in a Nets jersey; Devin Harris would be on the first train out of Jersey. If the Nets don't get the first pick, then yeah, Dooling will probably end up being cut. Though, I'm not certain that the contract stipulates that he needs to be cut by June 30th; if it doesn't, then I would imagine they would keep him around and only cut him if they need the space. Plus, since the Nets are most likely not giving out a max contract, I don't really see the need for that extra cap space.

Management hasn't really given any indication one way or the other...

I think that they'll keep him though, primarily because it's unlikely the Nets use all of their salary cap space this year as well as because there just aren't too many quality backup point guards in this free agent class, I quickly went through a list of FA for 2010 and only found 5 quality backup PG's:

Nate Robinson
Will Bynum (Restricted free agent)
C.J. Watson (Restricted free agent)
Kyle Lowry (Restricted free agent)
Steve Blake

I think the Nets can cross Lowry and Blake off that list for various reasons... So basically they'd have to come away with one of Robinson, Bynum, or Watson since Devin is a pretty big injury liability and is unlikely to play the entire 82 game season ...

I agree with you on the first part, but I think dooling stays if we pick 2-4 too.

Unless he asks to leave, I dont see Thorn letting him go. He is the only true leader on this team.
