Official Game Thread: Nets @ Rockets [8:30 PM; TODAY]

Post#1 » by NetsForce » Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:51 pm

Tonight will mark the end of the Nets road trip, the rest of march is home heavy (not sure if it matters):

vs. Hawks
@ 76'ers
vs. Raptors
vs. Heat
vs. Kings
vs. Pistons
@ Bulls
vs. Spurs
vs. Sun

The Nets have to pick up a win in that 6 game stretch beginning with the 76'ers and ending with the Bulls; Of their 7 games in April the Nets end up playing 5 teams fighting for playoff positioning: Hornets, Bucks, Bulls, Bobcats, Heat. The other two teams they play are the Wizards and Pacers.

My in game predictions.

1) Lopez to start off hot and have 8 & 4 in the first quarter before Lee and Harris Freeze him out
2) Devin to drive and score and get to the foul line at will. Before settling on three's, step back j's and deep jumper's.
3) Chuckney Lee will play 30 odd minutes for 9pts on 2-14 shooting incl 0-8 from the land of plenty.
4) T-Will to keep getting good burn and to continue his nice little run of late.
5) CDR to keep on sulking
6) jarvis and dooling to go ice cold since they were both hot last game.
7) CDR to keep on sooking
8) our 3 and 4 starters will combine for 8 and 9 rebounds
9) CDR to look for his own shot then get dragged
10) Kiki to continue his clueless run.

I doubt Courtney Lee goes 2-14. Maybe 2-7 with no assist and a total non factor offensively AND defensively in the 34 minutes he plays tonight.

Why the hell does Hassell still start... I'm fine with him playing 5 minutes but Kiki come on dawg, play CDR.

1. I knew Kiki would leave Brook in until he picked up his second foul.
2. I don't think Lee has read the scouting report on Martin... Leaving him open for 3 isn't a great idea.

They literally got all of that Western Carolina information off of Wikipedia. Literally. Go read it. Word for word, Marv Albert just recited the wikipedia page.

Very enjoyable half, didn't like Lopez' decision to reach in with 35 sec remaining to get whistled for a 3rd foul.

55-54 Nets at the half, quick 8-0 run in the first 2 minutes by Houston to start the second half.....it's 4-on-5 with Hassell in the lineup.

Sigh. Another multi-digit loss, it seems.

Edit: YES! Only lost by single digits.

Went to sleep since I'm still sick but all I'm going to say is... Lopez 8 shot attempts in the first quarter... 8 more shot attempts for the rest of the game... Yeah real genius...

Though I guess offense wasn't really the problem it was defense, I find it hard to believe that Yi could have done a worse job on Scola...

On one last note... Enough is enough stop playing Trenton Hassell... You're such an idiot Kiki...

I dont know why some guys are complaining about Lopez not getting touches. I understand that he was hot in the beginning and scored the first 10 points, i think. But he has to be consistent, because after that he commited 7 TO's and some stupid fouls. And him being not on the floor, we got out-rebounded and that just added to his poor help defense. Plus, i dont like his body language. Im sorry but im beginning to see CDR-like attitude from him especially during that last foul.

Please dont take my negative criticism on him as hate or dislike. I think im being hard on him because i really like him so much that i want him to do better. Imagine a 10 rebound night from a less effective game, he can do much better. Man, if i can only coach this team.

Lee and Hayes are money. I hope Kiki can build on this for the upcoming games.

Hey, at least, Pacquiao won tonight. Go Pacman!!!!!

Siddy, you i know see almost @#$% all of the games. I saw limited highlights and bit's of the last quarter. Was any of brooke's apples or forced shot's due to frustration of lack of touches?

It looks like he's been frustrated lately. There were a couple of games there where he didn't get good position in the post. He's very efficient when he gets the ball on the low block, but he's not getting there enough. He's either slipping high screen and rolls, getting forced out too high or trying to post when it's crowded ballside.

At the start of the rockets game, like 4 plays in a row they post him up perfect position by stacking 3 guys on the weakside and giving him room to manuever. He gets results, he draws some fouls, they start to double, we get an assist or two off of the doubles then nothing. If the nets could just post Lopez up in that sweet position through 4 quarters we might actually win some games.

One thing I'm worried about is I think teams are wising up to being able to get into Lopez's back to force him away from the basket. He shouldn't even be trying to catch the ball 20ft from the basket (on a post up). He's got to battle harder to maintain position or move on.

No doubt Lopez is being tested. He's a recognized talent around the NBA and teams are trying to limit his effectiveness. Hopefully he can battle through it, make some adjustments and emerge a better player.

For me, the frustration started not just because of the lack of touches. It's a bit of everything and all in part of one thing. The way i see it, the frustration came because of the lack of touches, lck of consistent shooters, lack of effective plays and lack of defensive rotations like help defense.

It starts with the coaches... They need to implement a better style, a more effective plays because what happens is when they post Brook and get double-teamed, he gives it back, then the rest of the guys dribbles the ball and looks for an open lane or a better shot. And when they dont get it, they start jacking up shots, like Devin, then it'll be too late to give the ball back to Brook. But sometimes they still would try to give it back to Brook and then he ended up the one jacking up the shot. Sometime we get lucky and make the shots and most of the time, it's Dooling and Hayes who would do the damage.

I understand that we dont have the greatest coaches but Brook needs to step up sometimes and fight for his position. He needs to be more physical and if the call doesnt go his way, he needs to stop whining and quit showing his frustration because the opponents pick up on that and it pisses off the ref's as well.

I kinda like the line up of Dooling, Lee and Hayes when they try to post Brook because it gives them a better option if he gets double-teamed. Those three guys are our best shooters but we still need more consistency from them. Now, when Devin is in the game, they can explore different plays because Devin can do more. They can simply throw alley-oop passes to Brook, pick and roll and even pick and pop because Brook has a nice touch for a big man.

My only knock on Brook is his defense. He needs to work a lot more on defense and focus. There are better mechanics to avoid commiting a foul on the time of contact, and he needs to learn that. I think the silly fouls are a part of his frustration and can be avoided as well. He is going to be better defensively because he will get more experience, but if i was him, i'll start with help defense. It will help him get more aggressive and more focused because he will have to watch and recognize the play, then he's gonna have to move quicker and make better decisions.
