Why don't the Leafs just send them down?
I don't understand why the Leafs wouldn't simply put Tucker and the other's that they don't want on waivers. If someone picks them up fine, and if not, ship them down to the Marlies. They still get paid but don't count against the cap.
If we buy these guys out, that money still counts against the cap. Over and over they've refused to waive their no-trade clauses and it can't be any more than knowing they will get paid and likely more with a buyout and signing elsewhere.
The Leafs need to grow a pair and stand up to some of these guys. They've had it too good here for too long.
I know the repuation of the organization would take a hit around the league but it didn't hurt NJ too much in instances they've done it in the past.

Mccabe is the only one it really isn't an option with. Tucker is a prime candidate to do this to.
Put him on waivers and if someone picks him up that's fine. If not he plays for the Marlies and gets his full 9 million that remains owed to him. The Leafs do no have that count against the cap and don't take a cap hit.
By buying him out, not only do we pay 6 million dollars but then take a 1 million dollar cap hit for the next 6 years. Someone can correct the cap hit as I'm not 100% sure.

Tucker has an NMC, which many people didn't know about. His agent cleared this up about a week or so ago, so with many players, it isn't an option.

Yes, Tucker has a no movement... which i'm kinda annoyed about because that wasn't what was reported when he signed his contract.
Anyways, his contract becomes a limited no-movement in his final year, meaning there is either a time period where they could move him or there are certain teams that he can be traded to.
I think it's either next year or the year after for that.

Re: Why don't the Leafs just send them down?
I have to say, what kind od stupidity ran this organization. How do you hand out no movement clauses - this has to be the single most crippling clause ever and the Leafs handed it twice and got burned.
It's sad that Tucker has a NMC because now we're stuck with him. I'd give him one shot under Wilson and if he disappoints at all, send him to the press box for the season to earn his money until he's willing to waive his clause and get moved.
Another candidate to be sent down would be Blake. Hopefully they can convince McCabe to waive his NMC for a deal.
I still can't believe this organization still doesn't get it. Then again Peddie is still at the helm so that does explain a lot.

If you choose to buy out Tucker, he's on the cap for 6 years. I'd rather try and make something happen if I was Cliff, by doing something like this:
Terrible contract ($5M or so) [signed for less years than Tucks]
3rd round draft pick
for
Darcy Tucker
Tucker has said he won't accept a trade, but this is how I play it if I'm Cliff. Either you accept this trade, or you sit your butt back on the bench for the rest of the season and we won't play you another second. I'm not sure if that is something which cannot be done or is considered illegal, but it's the only way to get players like Tucker off our hands.

Re: Why don't the Leafs just send them down?
Blake played for Wilson in International tournaments and he is signed for 4 more years and we won't get much if we trade him now as opossed to if he could get off to a decent start and score a bit this year. I would let him show us what he can do- someone HAS to play for this team this year.
Tucker and McCabe I would deal with differently. They won't waive their NTC, so I would simply sit them in the press box until they do. Neither of them fit into the long term plans, so play youngsters instead and sit them unitl they relent. They are not going to sit there for the balance of their contracts so I beleive at some point they will talk trade or outright release. Buyouts will harm up for future room and they are just not worth it ot be honest.

Re: Why don't the Leafs just send them down?
The problem with Tucker is the NMC which not a lot of us knew he had. I certainly didn't.
As for Blake, I'd give him a shot but his entire careers has been average for the most part and other than one really good scoring season which landed him this contract he's not that great of a player. I'd rather give a youngster his spot if we can't trade him and send him to the minors.
Love the idea of sitting both McCabe and Tucker in the press box if they are unwilling to waive the clauses and move on. Another thing, says a lot about the character of these guys, they are guaranteed their money no matter what but still want to stay with an organization that has made it clear they don't want them. I know there are family concerns and all, but wouldn't being in a situation where you're wanted and have a chance to win play into things big time. These guys just seem like they don't want to win anymore and are living on past successes.

Re: Why don't the Leafs just send them down?
They (Tucker & McCabe) are comfortable and it's no longer about winning or competing IMO. If it was, neither would want to be here anymore. I can't relate because I am not in their shoes, but if I was a professional athlete at the highest level, a NTC would be something I would want to use to stop me from going somewhere where winning wasn't the focus- not something I would use to support my complacency.
I don't care if the Leafs lose a ton of games next year, as long as pantloads like these guys are not taking up development time for guys like Williams, Kulemin, Vorobiev, Harrison, etc. I would rather have young guys cut their teeth and let Tucker & McCabe sit in the press box until they let us move them for short term contracts that are more cap friendly, or youngsters/picks that will be part of the future of this team.
What Tucker & McCabe want would be the least of my worries if I were Fletcher, and I have a feeling his thoughts are not too far off this rant of mine.....or at least I hope

Or in any way since?
Was this actually confirmed?
At any rate Fletch is handling it as well as one could expect. He is praising Tucker for his efforts. Hopefully some good will acrue as a result of his respectful approach. I am not sold on Fletcher's approach but ... he is a better man than I ... gunga din!

Re: Why don't the Leafs just send them down?
"We continue to hear that the Leafs want to trade Bryan McCabe," agent Ian Pulver said in a statement to Rogers Sportsnet. "Bryan has a no-move clause in his contract that was negotiated with and agreed to by the Leafs. Bryan is not inclined to waive the no-move clause. He enjoys living and playing in Toronto and the team is a first-class organization.
"Bryan has logged more minutes than any other Leafs player in the past seven years and given his heart and soul to this franchise. If the Leafs want to move forward without Bryan they should buy out the remaining years on his contract."
These were comments from McCabe's agents from today's article on slam.ca.
Basically, it's pay me my money and I'll move on, otherwise I'll be glad to just play in a situation where it's clear the organization doesn't want me anymore. What a joke. I hope they sit his a$$ in the press box all season.

Sit McCabe in the Press Box next fall and leave him there until he and Pulver's attitude change.
Let him rot till he relents.
