It's kind of freaky at this point
Both are the flagship of their leagues, in the biggest market in the country
Neither have won the championship for 40 years (Leafs - '67, Knicks - 73)
Both were crippled by dumbass GMs who overpaid mediocore players (JFJ, Isiah) and haven't been to the playoffs in 4+ years.
Both fired this GM in the summer of 08 and hired a coach recently fired from a contender (Wilson, D'Antoni). They then had a similar bad but not bad enough for a star pick season (New York finished 7th from the bottom, the Leafs 8th)
This season comes along. Neither have their first round draft picks. They both start out horribly (Knicks 3-14, Leafs 3-11-6). Then both have miraculously turned it around and gotten themselves into playoff contention position.
Any other similiarities betwene the teams you can think of? Maybe Toskala's goaltending = David Lee's d... Chris Rock = Mike Myers... Jason Blake = Eddy Curry...

Re: OT: Leafs/Knicks parallels
-Both of them won there last titles when they where old and on there last legs
-Both where pathetic during the 80s
-Both had the first pick in the 1985 draft and drafted there leaders for the next ten years
-Both had teams that the fans could be proud of in 90s. Defensive orientated tough teams that where consistently great, just not great enough
-Both where stopped by the greatest players of all-time in the 90s. (The leafs in 93 by Gretzky and the knicks by Jordan)

Good analysis.
That's some crazy stuff. I never knew they were that similar in terms of their traits.
