Star: Leafs sign G Scott Clemmensen

Post#1 » by Crowned » Fri Jul 6, 2007 6:39 pm

According to Star sources, the former New Jersey Devils goaltender has signed a two-way contract with the Leafs and is expected to be the club's No. 3 goaltender this season, working with the AHL Toronto Marlies alongside youngster Justin Pogge.

Looks like Raycroft will be on the move. Clemmensen isn't a starter, but a not bad backup. I don't see why he'll be a number 3.

WTF kind of signing is this? I didn't realize depth goaltending for the Marlies was a critical issue that needed to be dealt with right now.

I think he's insurance, he's on a two way contract and he may have been signed to back up Toskala, rumor is Raycroft is on his way out of town but if the deal goes sour he can be sent down to the Marlies for less money and no cap hit...

He's just a depth signing. Basically insurance that if we go with a Toskala-Raycroft tandem and one of them goes down with an injury we can just call him up instead of Pogge.
