This team lacks a right handed winger

Post#1 » by Griff83 » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:12 pm

Looking at the current roster, Looks like we only have 3 guys who shoot right and all of them are natural centermen (Sundin, Wellwood, Pohl). We dont have a single winger who shoots right handed on our roster right now. Sure someone could make the argument that its not essential in terms of team success to have one, but if you look around the league almost every team has a right handed winger whos capable of 15-20 goals per season.

I agree we really do need a Right Winger or two and thats why I've been on about acquiring Hejduk in my trade proposal he would be a really great addition and teamed with Sundin and blake or Tucker, would give us a pretty potent first line...

Ya that would be a awesome first line.

I mean its not the end of the world that we dont have a right handed winger, but its certainly strange when you look around the league and notice almost every team does. Even a little thing like being able to take a outlet pass in your own end on your forehand rather then your backhand might look like a small thing, but i'd wager to bet that a left hander playing right wing will on average make more mistakes trying to take that pass then the right handed RW'er.

I agree that this team lacks a right handed winger, but some players love playing on their off-wing. Ovechkin, a right-handed shot, thrives on his off wing rushes. Mogilny also used to love playing on the right side despite being a lefty, so I don't think it's very crucial, but I certainly agree with your point about the odd neutral zone turnovers when accepting a pass on the wrong side.

It's no secret that the Leafs are after Hejduk and have been for some time. I personally disagree with obtaining him because it'll cost way too much to get him, and I think he's a bit over-rated considering he's played his entire career on a line with either Forsberg or Sakic.

Yep your right many players dont mind and sometimes actually prefer to play on their off wing, its just really really strange that we dont have one natural right winger slatted to be on our opening day roster. Both Tlusty and Kulemin shoot left so we really have no prospect coming up that shoots right expect for Jeremy Williams.

I agree I think the rumoured price is too high for Hejduk and theyre are prolly better options on the trade front that will cost less like his teammate Svatos. On one hand I wouldnt be suprised to see JFJ make a move like this giving up alot of young talent/picks for Hejduk as he must feel his job is on the line and he NEEDS to make the playoffs this year and show well. This team right now looks like a playoff team but there certainly are no gurantee's, If he add's Hejduk id say they are almost a lock to make the playoffs and actually could be a force in the East.
