If the two biggest names being talked about moving - Hossa and Richards - fetch an unbelievable package?
This is not to direct any venom towards Mats and his desire to remain a Leaf. This just adds to the many things that have happened and continue to happen to this organization over the last 10 years that really hinder us from taking a real step towards being a championship team.
Whether it's giving up a pick that turned into Niedermayer or Luongo.
Whether it's looking at moves other team's made and sitting, wondering why couldn't we get the same type of deal only to give up a similar package or more for a lower quality player.
Whether it's as simple as a broken fax machine that kept us from getting Stoll.
This team just continues to have bad luck. I have become so apathetic towards what the Leafs do because no matter what they do, they just can't turn it around. I'm almost at the point where I don't care. The last two seasons may be the least amount of Leaf hockey I have watched since I started watching hockey. I used to watch or PVR every game and now I just could care less.
Now back to the question - How upset will you be if some teams land some unbelievable packages for their players being moved to contending teams?
How upset will you be if....?

I can guarantee that teams will get excellent packages in return for the likes of Jokinen, Hossa and to a lesser extent, Richards. We're talking about some premiere players in the league, and Sundin would've been mixed into that category. It's been rumoured that a Gilbert Brule package has been offered in return for Richards, and he's someone that I'd absolutely love to see in a Leaf jersey.
We would've likely seen a Jeff Carter+ package for Sundin, or a Bobby Ryan+ package for him. It certainly would've benefited us from a rebuilding point of view.
I guess Fletcher will have to do his best to see what he can get for the likes of Blake, Antropov, Gill, Kilger and Poni.

It's very disheartening to think we could possibly have Bobby Ryan and possibly the Edmonton pick from this year's draft. That would basically allow us to make a move for the top pick should Stamkos be thought of to be gone or just keep both picks and pick up an additional two top notch prospects.
Again, the disappointment is almost too much to even think about.
Here's hoping that Cliff atleast tries to make a deal for Sunding and then goes to him at the last minute and says, look this is what's being offered and it's just a package we can't pass up, will you reconsider?

Don't forget that the price for those guys has gone up because of Sundin, and also some other guys (Tanguay, etc.) apparently being off the market. But it will still be painful.
I'm still skeptical that they could have got Bobby Ryan AND the pick - one for sure, but both would have been a lot. I would have liked to find out though!

Very disappointing to see what the Thrashers got for Hossa and to think based on that what we could have got for Sundin.
Just another sad day in the long line of them over the past 40 year's.
I really hope the day comes when the building is not full every night. Only in a market like this are people so blind to continue to support such an inept franchise. Even in NY people know when they are being screwed with and show their displeasure. A three game win streak and the arena will still believe in this team when they should be doing everything possible to lose right now.

if we'd traded sundin to anaheim a month ago we could have had ryan and edmonton's pick. Edmonton was in like 8th back then. That pick might be 1st overall
and kaberle would have got us carter and philly's pick. And that pick is starting to look awful good too
could have been:
bobby ryan
jeff carter
steve stamkos
eric bogosion
instead we get nothing lol

Trust me, Brian Burke wouldn't have given you Bobby Ryan and the Edmonton 1st for a player that isn't signed long term. Plus it's Zach Bogosian, not Eric. The odds of getting Stamkos aren't that great either even if you're at the top of the lottery (20%). That's the hugest pipe dream ever
